Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 4 – Sunday

Angel di Maria steers United to their first win of the season with a goal and assist against QPR. Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera mirror the Argentine’s returns, while Juan Mata is also on the scoresheet in an emphatic 4-0 demolition.

Di Maria Dazzles on Home Bow
Handed a berth on the left of a midfield diamond, the Argentine leapt to Fantasy managers’ attention with a pivotal role in yesterday’s rout. After somewhat fortuitously opening the scoring with a free-kick, Di Maria teed up Juan Mata for the hosts’ fourth and turned in a performance that is set to get the bandwagon rolling ahead of next week’s trip to Leicester. Indeed, with home matches against West Ham and Everton allied with a trip to West Brom in the next four, some may even be contemplating a shift to 3-5-2 in order to accommodate the Argentine in their starting line-ups.

Rooney Back in the Points
While Robin van Persie blanked once again, the England star replicated Di Maria with a goal and assist against the R’s. Handed a role alongside the Dutchman, Rooney certainly staked a claim to continue in the advanced role – certainly, on current form, there’d be no real surprise if Van Persie dropped out to accommodate Radamel Falcao.

Nonetheless, Van Gaal’s decision to sub off Juan Mata, despite the Spaniard netting for the second time this term, resulted in a change of position for Rooney, who tucked in behind the front two. There’s no doubt such a scenario would prove detrimental to both Rooney and Mata, and bearing in mind the Colombian only failed to start due to jet lag, there are still many question marks surrounding United’s attack right now.

Herrera Off the Mark
Judging by yesterday’s display, the Spaniard may yet prove to be a legitimate Fantasy option for the season ahead. Herrera had been written off as a source of points due to a deep-lying role but the arrival of Daley Blind allowed him to shift to the right of the midfield diamond against the R’s and serve up a goal and assist. At just 7.3 in FPL, Herrera certainly looks worth monitoring if he can continue in the same role.

Van Gaal Moves to Four at the Back
The United boss admitted pre-match his decision to opt for a four-man defence was mainly down to injuries. With the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling sidelined and Luke Shaw fit enough only for the bench, Van Gaal was forced to field Tyler Blackett at centre-half, with Marcos Rojo covering on the left. While a second consecutive clean sheet is promising, it’s worth bearing in mind United have played against promoted opposition in those last couple of matches – with uncertainty still surrounding their first-choice personnel at the back, though, many may opt against investing in the Red Devils’ defence for now.

Been away all weekend and haven’t seen any goals. I swear JWP didn’t have an assist when I checked FPL Saturday.. he definitely had one right?

Yes, they gave it to Pelle incorrectly for a short while, then fixed it after the games ended.

    Hazard v Fabregas

Fabregas is bossing the assists with Costa smashing them in... Will undoubtedly continue as long as Costa stays fit,

Hazard has played well by most accounts but has not performed well fantasy wise...

Who will fare better over the season and why? And who will you go for in the short term??

I reckon it will change game by game. People doing a Hazard to Fab transfer this week may see Hazard smash in 2 goals and Fab getting 2 points next gameweek. Not worth worrying about just yet.

I'm sticking with Fabregas; a steady flow of assists, and I can't see Hazard getting enough huge hauls to make up for the price difference. Let's not forget that Fabregas is also capable of racking up the points in a single GW.

I am stuck on Hazard at the moment. The way Chelsea are scoring I may get Fab as well. If not, will sell Hazard for Fab

Last season Chelsea lacked scoring forwards, so it was up to Hazard to score / create the goals. This season they have more attacking stability, and I think Hazard must play more as a team player rather than an individualist.

So assuming they all stay fit, over the course of a season what % of playing time will the following occupy. My ill informed estimate below...

    Rooney 80
    RVP 70
    Falcao 90
    ADM 90
    Mata 60

Don't get me wrong. If given a choice between my FPL team doing well and Chelsea doing well, it would easily be the latter.

But it isn't exactly harsh to expect both to have gone in my favor. Lots of luck involved in this game - you win some you lose most

Yikes. This year too many players are performing well so it's difficult to differentiate yourself. Even when you get a good punt successful, it doesn't matter, as their points are covered by the template. Interesting to see how that changes once the high ownership players start faltering. Which they will.

Too risky. Kelly was rested against burnley due to a slight knock. But he's a better player and should replace mariappa soon.

We've also just signed fryers at left back which could see Joel ward shift to right back instead of mariappa when he gets a shot.

I am not yet convinced Di Maria is suited to the rigours of PL football. He has now coe off with cramp on 2 occasions, could see no reason why that should happen yesterday tbh. It's a long hard season, with the tough fixtures yet to come.

He had the freedom of the park yesterday, where he wasn't as massively impressive as many say. A decent performance considering the nature of the game, however it's early days for me.

I look at those two 60 minutes and think the exact opposite. He's an absolute beast and will tear apart defences. Lots of players are suffering at this stage of the season as they gain fitness. Those adjusting to the league for the first time will likely take longer.

    Morning all!

Using my trannys to sort out my defence this week. If you could pick two from this lot, who would you go for:

    Rafael
    Moreno
    Trippier/Shackell
    Bertrand/Clyne

Cheers! Hope you all had a good week, weird one this week, nlt often you captain an injured player who scores a hattrick and you go down in rank!

Clyne and Moreno because liverpool's fixtures are looking pretty tidy for the next 5 weeks

I like the Trippier pick. Might line him up as a caulker replacement due to fixtures after the Stoke game.

Would you swap Schurrle for Eriksen and risk going with two defenders? Or sell Debuchy.

Schurrle started all games when he was fit. I see no point transfering him out. Whos ur 5th mid ?
Debuchy for Chambers or Manquilo/Moreno or Duff depends what u want 2 do next week

Disappointing that Tottenham's Harry Winks dropped in price last night.

Silva out, Di Maria in for free
Jovetic out, Adebayor in for a -4 hit (a 1 week punt & then to Pelle in gw6). Surely he can get a couple of goals v WBA at home.

    Will give me:
    Krull
    Ivanovic, Clyne, Chester
Ramsey, Sterling, Fabregas, Siggy, Di Maria
    Costa (c), Adebayor

    Elliott, Naismith, Moore, Hutton

    Thoughts appreciated.

you could play 4-5-1 for the week with Costa (or play Naismith) and avoid the hit.

For this week's FT I'm thinking Mata -> Herrera given that he's a fairly certain starter (whereas Mata may be iffy when Falcao gets up and running) leaving me with the funds to bring in Baines at week 7/8 and upgrade my (awful choice) third striker.

I'm also toying with Mata -> Di Maria however that will drain my bank leaving me struggling to bring in Baines/upgrade striker no. 3.

    Thoughts?

mata to ADM yes at least for the next month or so but mata to herrera is too side ways, waste imo.

Should start most games but injury problems and possible rotation with smalling (when fit) are the issues.

Well I don't like Henderson, Yaya or Bojan... Some replacements I would currently be considering include:

      Pelle, Welbeck, Adebayor,

Hoping my good start to Ultimate FPL continues on through the season.. Really enjoying the game!

Had a real good feeling about it during the Beta last year and saw it becoming my main game of choice over regular FPL and can definitely see that being the case!
