The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 8

Our Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations over the next four to six Gameweeks, have been updated over the last 24 hours.

Between the sticks, West Ham’s Adrian is on the up after collecting his first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 7. The Hammers face a trip to Burnley this weekend, and with their opponents having only scored in one of their last six, the 5.0-priced Spaniard could be set for further returns come Saturday afternoon. Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny also climbs the rankings due to Calum Chambers’ one-match suspension and the injury doubts hanging over Laurent Koscielny in the Gunners’ defence.

With excellent fixtures ahead for Arsene Wenger’s side (HUL, sun, BUR, swa), their backline looks set to prosper in spite of current form (it’s only one shut-out so far this season for a defence that accumulated 17 clean sheets last term), and Per Mertesacker – as their most nailed-on rearguard option right now – comes into our defensive standings as a result.

Joining team-mate Adrian in rising up our rankings is Hammers centre back James Tomkins, whose attacking threat has already earned his owners two assists up to this point. Across the way at Tottenham, meanwhile, Younes Kaboul climbs to just below Tomkins thanks to his kind fixtures from Gameweek 9 onwards (NEW, avl, STK, hul).

Jeffrey Schlupp is a new entry at the back thanks to his out-of-position prospects – the Leicester man is available for just 4.5 and was utilised on the left wing in the Foxes’ last league fixture, bagging his first goal of the season in the process. Another defender prospering due to their out-of-position status is Hull’s Andrew Robertson. Like Schlupp, he is on offer for just 4.5 ,and though his next three fixtures are rather tough (ars, liv, SOU), his strong form and position on the left of midfield in the Tigers’ 3-5-2 formation brings him into contention.

There is little movement in midfield, where Raheem Sterling holds on to the top spot, with Fantasy Premier League midfield frontrunners Gylfi Sigurdsson (sto, LEI, eve, ARS, mci) and Angel Di Maria (wba, CHE, mci, CRY, ars) only failing to climb due to their tricky schedules. The likes of Jordan Henderson (6.0), Saido Mane (6.9) and James Milner (5.3) continue to bubble under as mid-price differentials and cheaper alternatives to their team-mates further up the rankings – all three have strong fixtures to boost their points potential.

Daniel Sturridge is the big addition to our rankings up front. The Liverpool striker is likely to be eased back into action after recovering from a thigh injury, but as he proved against Southampton in Gameweek 1, needs little time to introduce himself. The 11.3-priced England man has enticing fixtures against QPR, Hull and Newcastle to find his feet and could prove an outstanding differential in the coming weeks.

Danny Welbeck is the main mover in our forward standings and now sits just below the template trio of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Sergio Aguero. Though he has picked up returns in one of his four appearances in an Arsenal shirt, the lack of clear options in the Gunners’ midfield right now ensures that Welbeck, at a mere 7.3, is their main attacking asset for the moment – reports indicate he’s set to return to training after shrugging off the knock picked up on England duty. Should Alexis Sanchez begin to justify his 10.3 price tag and Theo Walcott quickly readjust to life in the Premier League upon his return from injury next week, both are likely to be elevated in next week’s refresh.

I would love this to work. All depends on how Wenger will use him. Can't understand purchasing a player for a lot of money and playing him out of position. Buy Santi, stick him on the wing, buy Mesut, stick him on the wing. Stick Rooney in midfield. Stick Kagawa wide.

Drains the player of confidence and usually the player ends up leaving for much less money than initially paid. Crazy.

Crazy, madness... Just fill your team with stars and play wherever you want, sadly, it doesn't work like that. A player is class only when played in his natural positon. 😐

Out of last 7 games, only Liverpool/Spurs can be considered tough. Other 5, atleast 1 goal should have been scored by him?

But stats are good, games are easy, player is class. More likely than not to hit form.

What would you do with this lot?
    I have 2.3 and 1.3 in bank.

    Begovic -- Krul
    PVA -- Cahill -- lovren -- clyne -- wisdom
    Di Maria -- Fabregas -- Sterling -- Tadic--Marney
    Costa -- Naismith -- Welbeck

I am thinking of bringing Baines and hutton in but long term, I would like a bigger striker upfront which would mean either sterling or fabregas getting the chop.

    Thoughts please would-be appreciated

    1. Sarri-ball
      • 14 Years

Yep agree id want a upgrade on Naismith.

      Could do something like

      Fab/Naismith to Chadli,pelle

Then would you have money for

      Lovren to baines

        So fabregas to downgrade then.

Probably is the way to go considering I have costa.
If I went pelle I would also probably change tadic. But for this week, I think I will do Baines in first then look to fab and Naismith out.

        Thanks for input

    Planning fab/Taylor to Chadli/Baines.

Do this week -4 or just wait till next week

    Moreno Naylor Clyne (Moore chambers)

    Falcao Costa Pelle
    2FTs, 0.6

This is a tough 1! What are you leaning toward?

I have lost faith in pools defence and then with your attacking team, you'd probably have to make way a mid or forward if you want Baines Ivan. I like to see Baines as an extra mid that gets clean sheet bonus

Depends if you are chasing or leading your league I reckon,

If chasing a nice potential diff could be:

Cesc > Oscar to maintain Chelsea cover
Moreno > Beans for your ghost mid def

Otherwise Cesc > Eriksen or Chadli (doubt) and then you'll have funds to upgrade falcao to Sturridge for further diff if you wanted and adm as utd cover. Then could do Sterling to Ramsey for arsenal cover in a few weeks all within budget.
Moreno > Ivan to maintain Chelsea cover

    Sterling

facing seven games in 21 days - including two fixtures against Real Madrid and one against Premier League leaders Chelsea, combined with Sterlings previous gruelling schedule have me planning on removing him.
All the drama over the fitness issue could well have been an added distraction. Hes a decent enough player, but not the value he ws last season.

Im seriously considering his removal this week to gain access to one of the cheaper mids combined with a swoop for Baines

I was not prepared to sacrifice Fabregas, but Sterlings looks much more expendable

My third choice defender each week has done even worse
averaging about one point per match

for example this week Baines would replace Taylor away at stoke

                i don't forget... i just "left out"

They could. Three City defenders means you don't have Aguero up front. Costa, Pelle and Welbeck = circa £30 million and that leaves money for defensive upgrades.

The problem would be finding three nailed defensive options at City...

If they never conceded a goal , imagine what price their defenders would be next season

Anyone hazard a guess. give them an average of say 7 or 8 a game when taking into account bonuses and attacking points

they would be about 14m each i think

why is fabregas still above hazard in the watchlist ranking? hazard has made 21 pts in the last 3 gameweeks against only 10 pts from fabregas...

    Haven't asked this in a while 😉

    What to do?

    DDG/Gilks
    Cahill/Duff/Chester/Clyne/Dummet
    ADM/Sterling/Siggy/Downing/Marney
    Pelle/Costa/Aguero
    1.7itb

Save FT and do Chester + DDG -> Baines + Guzan next week? I could also do it for a hit this week
My concern is that I wouldn't be able to upgrade Downing in the near future.

    Thanks.

I would rather not. I kind of want to asses Everton's defence on more time, this should be an easy CS for Everton on paper. No point on investing on a player that is likely to get 2 points every week and a rare goal/assist.
