PlayON Picks – Gameweek 9 – £1,000 Guaranteed Pot

As always on a Friday lunchtime, we analyse the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. Below we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

This week PlayON has a £1,000 Guaranteed Pot on offer in the weekly game. You can also enter daily games by clicking into the daily periods above “Pick Teams”.

PlayON have been doing a lot of work on their player pricing algorithm over the past few months and this week is the first weekly the new prices are live. If you have any thoughts on their new pricing structure, let them know on their Facebook Page or their Twitter page .

Goalkeeper – Lukas Fabianski
Priced at just 7.1m, the Swansea stopper looks excellent value at home to Leicester this weekend. Fabianski has already earned two clean sheets in front of his own fans and bearing in mind the visitors have scored just one away goal all season, a third shut-out could well be on the cards. Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris will also fancy his chances as Newcastle roll up to White Hart Lane. Available for 7.8m, the Frenchman faces a Magpies side that has failed to score in three of their four road trips to date.

Defender – Steven Caulker
QPR’s defence have been anything but resilient this season but, at home to a Villa side that have failed to score in each of their last four, there may never be a more opportune time to register a shut-out. Caulker’s threat in the opposition box has already came to fruition this year and bearing in mind a goal is worth 1000 points in PlayON, a price of 6.5m may prove to be a bargain. Southampton defenders have been transformed from left-field picks to essential in the last few weeks. The Saints full-backs were strangely quiet in terms of goals and assists against Sunderland but a home tie against Stoke is a promising fixture – we’ve gone for Ryan Bertrand, who, at 7.2m, is a little cheaper than Nathaniel Clyne at 7.6m.

Midfielder – Nacer Chadli
The Belgian has outscored team-mates Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela, both 10.8m, this season yet is priced considerably cheaper in PlayON, at 8.9m. Chadli’s four goals and an assist this campaign underlines his flourishing form under Mauricio Pochettino as Newcastle’s dodgy defence pay visit. Our essential midfield pick this week is Gylfi Sigurdsson, who faces a Leicester side that have shipped eight goals in the last four matches. The Icelander is integral to the Swans attacking play and has assisted five of their six goals at home this season – if the hosts are to prevail, their 9.7m-priced playmaker is likely to be involved.

Forward – Saido Berahino
The top scoring English forward in the Premier League is an absolute bargain this week at only 8.2m. West Brom host a Crystal Palace side that’s yet to keep a clean sheet away from home and bearing in mind Berahino has scored five times in four appearances in front of his own supporters, he’ll be confident of breaching the Eagles’ dodgy backline. Graziano Pelle has settled well after his move from the Dutch Eredivisie, with a remarkable six goals and two assists in eight appearances. Southampton welcome Stoke to St Mary’s on the back of last week’s 8-0 rout of Sunderland and with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez priced at 15m and 14m respectively, Pelle’s 11m price tag looks far better value for money this weekend.

Head over to PlayON.co and get your teams in for the £1,000 game ahead of the 10.45am deadline on Sat morning.

    Serious question. If Costa starts on Sunday after I've sold him, does that only give me 10 men?

      yeah. people seriously overreact on here.

      Funny situation isn't it.

      Probably a anti-climax of Kun/Costa both getting a lame 6 points each.

    So no need to ship Costa. Have wanted to do get in Baines for Terry, but then Chelsea will maybe get a CS against ManU and certainly QPR, whereas I would be relying on attacking points from Baines, with considerably less chance of CS. Of course Ivanovic is an alternative, but I fear I'll not be abel to squeeze in Haxzard for QPR then. So what do you think:

    A) Terry -> Baines

    B) Terry -> Ivan

    CB) hold

        I'm leaning towards that. Problem bringing him in any given GW is the great risk of a two-pointer, so one needs to be patient and wait for the 12 pointers every other GW

    2 FT for this week and getting tired of my front 8. Is ADM and Wilson to Alexis and Wisdom a sound move?

    Siggy, Sterling, Tadic, ADM, Boyd
    Kun, Costa, Pelle

    Order of bench in case of ADM or Costa no-show:

    Boyd - Wisdom - Moore ?

    Or Wisdom first?

        Hmm, it's a tricky one. I'm playing Foster, so in one way I would want Wisdom to score better than Boyd (considering I have Baines), given that one of them comes in for Costa/ADM.

          Well I reckon ADM is fine and to be honest, I think Costa will get minutes so might be worth your while just to stick Wisdom there as first choice.

            Yes I believe I'll end up doing just that.

            Wisdom might even be a better pick than Taylor, but I'm not too fond of doubling up really.

    Which is the better move? 2FT 0.3 in the bank team is linked.

    A) Dzeko + Moreno --> Welbeck + Rose

    B) Dzeko + Fabregas --> Berahino + Sanchez

    C) just do Dzeko to Welbeck and keep a FT

      If I hadn't sold Costa already, I'd definitely still sell him now. Made the mistake of not selling him for Aguero last week - wasn't going to make that mistake again.

      Even without the massive doubt hanging over his playing time he does have some difficult fixtures over the next few as well as important CL matches.

            Nice. Good situation to be in. I sold Costa for Aguero before the games last week so I've been able to sit back and observe the whole thing with a pretty detached attitude. I'll see how this weekend goes and then consider whether I want Costa back for the QPR game. I keep hoping he gets sent off this weekend to remove the problem!

          to steal and morph a classic apprentice line a few weeks ago everything he touched turned to goals, now the magic touch is wavering a bit, he'll get it back but having an opinion that he has lost form (apart from being a fact!) has more than enough basis. sporting lisbon was especially bad, chelsea should have won that 4 or 5 nil but for costa and schurrle

        I like how everyone says what a great community spirit there is - all helping each other etc - when something like this comes along and you see all the true colours.

        There will be a lot of people on here wanting Costa to get seriously injured on the strength of what is a pure game - and that is pitiful...

      My line up for this weekend, used my FT to bring in Pelle for Wellbeck, hoping that pays off 🙂

      Schneiderlin has to be benched in this lineup right? I have a feeling Costa will make an appearance, if he doesn't Schneiderlin isn't bad cover IMO.

      Krul (Elliott)

      Wilson - Bertrand - Duff (PVA, Wasilewski)

      Fabs - ADM - Sterling - Siggy (Schneiderlin)

      Aguero (C) - Costa - Pelle

            I think Eriksen will be the better pick in the end. But Chadli is still a good pick.
            You could do just Ulloa to Berahino though.

            Who's your fifth mid?

              Siggy. I do want to keep him.

                Hmm, the Costa injury is the tricky one. If he starts, you're okay with just Ulloa to Berahino. If not, Chambers/Mutch are no decent substitute, although Chambers could work.

                  Yeah exactly. That's what happened to me last week, got Caulker off the bench for -2! I have Chambers, and I'm happy enough with my defense this week. Gah! Decisions!

      Please suggest:

      a) Davis > Chadli
      b) Davis + Pieters > Eriksen + Moore (-4)
      c) Davis + Pieters > D.Tadic + Moore (-4)

        I had the same problem. I did Bruce --> Chambers, and I'm gonna do Rio --> Rose next week. 🙂

        A. Chambers. Cheaper, and plays for a better team.
