Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

The final match of Gameweek 9 sees QPR attempt to haul themselves off the foot of the Premier League table as Aston Villa roll up to Loftus Road this evening. Both sides are in dire form right now, though – the hosts have picked up a single point from their last five fixtures, whilst Paul Lambert’s side have lost each of their last four without scoring a single goal in the process.

From a Fantasy perspective, only Steven Caulker has caught our attentions for the hosts – the centre-half is one of only three R’s players with an ownership above 3% in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and sits in 7% of sides. Despite the R’s having conceded 17 goals in the last seven, Caulker’s owners will be cautiously optimistic over a clean sheet, though – the visitors have now failed to score in each of their last four league matches.

Up top, the R’s will be buoyed by their late rally at home to Liverpool last time around, though, where Eduardo Vargas emerged from the bench to notch twice in a 3-2 loss.

Paul Lambert will be pinning his hopes on Christian Benteke to make a difference for the visitors. The big Belgian returned to the starting XI last time around and whilst there’s still some doubts over his match sharpness after months on the sidelines, he’s proven time and again he’s more than capable of dishing out punishment to obliging top-flight backlines.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm rank 2k-ish, so wanted to avoid hit(s), but if Costa is really out, which road would you follow:

    A. Costa + Sterling ➡ Aguero + Chadli / Downing (-4)
    B. Costa + Sterling + Moreno ➡ Aguero + Eriksen + Chambers (-8)
    C. Costa + Siggy + Moreno ➡ Aguero + Downing + Chambers (-8)
    D. give up on Aguero and go for any other FWD without taking a hit

    ?

If Costa is ruled out, you'll need Aguero for sure. Need a reliable captain candidate each week. Option A out of those, move Moreno on next week for free if you still want to.

Man United haven't done spectacular business, either.

Hard to know about Benatia and Vidal, fairly clear now Vidal wasn't leaving but Benatia could have been one.

Then again, you're inevitably going to be told about the fact that United also got ADM and Falcao (and Herrera who I actually rate very very highly). 😉

I've had sakho since game week 3 actually, so I clearly rate him higher than a lot of people. I just play to the fixtures. I'm sure most bookies would have better odds on villa keeping a clean sheet against QPR than sakho scoring against city.

Team with 0 in bank and 1 FT:

    Forster - Elliot

    Baines - Chambers - Wisdom - Schlupp - Bartley

Hazard - Di Maria - Sterling - Siggy - Marney

    Costa - Pelle - Lukaku

Don't know what to do... Any ideas?

Now I want to get Sanchez in. Is it worth taking Di Maria out for him or should I just keep Welbeck and hope he is involved more?

Thanks. Sanchez's form + fixtures is just really hard to ignore atm.

For me the potential regret outweighs the potential gain.

Mmm well said. It is all a game of luck in the end and it comes down to decisions like this one, but what you are saying does make sense. It is just that United have tough fixtures coming up in that is sort of putting me off keeping ADM, although you can't deny his talent.

ADM is probably the best United cover atm as everything goes through him, whereas there are good alternatives to Sanchez in the Arsenal team (Welbeck, Ramsey and Walcott in a few weeks).

As such if you want to have both United and Arsenal coverage then ADM is more essential imo. So I'd be reluctant enough to jettison him.

Fair point. Already have Welbeck, but felt like it may have been an option to double up on Arsenal considering their upcoming fixtures. May just stick to Welbeck and hope he can pick up some points because of the brilliant players behind him.

Seems like a good choice yeah, I was thinking Heaton after Arsenal's game, but I'm not a fan of him. Adrian seems better though.

It's amusing to see all the players getting rid of Ivanovic (before QPR at home!) 😀

I want him.. but what's stopping me is that Arsenal never scores more than 2 goals in a game in the PL, and he has to share those two goals with Walcott, Welbeck, Ramsey etc soon..
