Captain Sensible – Gameweek 10

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Under normal circumstances, Diego Costa would be the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll but, as we know, things are not quite straightforward when it comes to Jose Mourinho. Nonetheless, having returned to training yesterday, faith in the Chelsea striker is building and he leads the way ahead of a plum home clash with a QPR defence that have shipped at least two goals in all four of their road trips. After scoring in each of his four home appearances, Costa leads the way with 29% of the votes cast so far.

Elsewhere for Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have earned 9% and 6% of the votes cast. The latter has been the most consistent, with a goal or assist in seven of his nine appearances, though Hazard delivered a double-figure haul in his previous match at the Bridge and has spot-kick duties to fall back on.

Alexis Sanchez sits in second as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Burnley. Subject to huge investment this week after taking his tally to five goals in his last six appearances with a brace against Sunderland, the Chilean has been backed by 20% heading into the weekend. Over 5% have opted for Danny Welbeck, though his form is a little disconcerting – he’s picked up points in only two of his six appearances since arriving in north London.

In third spot, Sergio Aguero remains firmly in our thoughts in spite of a surprise blank against West Ham. Up against a United defence that have picked up just three points on their travels, the Argentine has persuaded over 14% to hand him the armband – although his four-goal haul against Spurs is fresh in the memory, Aguero has stuttered at the Etihad and has scored in only two of his four home matches.

Further down, the likes of Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling are still in contention ahead of trips to Hull and Newcastle. Pelle has picked up points in six of his previous seven now and stands atop the Fantasy Premier League standings on 59 points, though the Tigers have tightened up since reverting to a three-man backline and have kept out their opponents in two of their last three. Sterling, with just two assists in the previous four, will be optimistic of returning to form against a Magpies backline with a single shut-out in seven.

    Who would consider Ivan to Chambers and Pelle/Welbs to Costa for -4?

    Just trying to decide how urgently I get Costa back.

    An alternative is a straight choice between Kun & Costa

      Wouldn't do the former.

      If you think Costa is a better choice than aguero then go for the second one.

      I'd personally just leave as is.

      Not for me. I feel like the most likely return for Costa is in the 6-9 range. He could explode for a brace or hattrick and if he does, it will hurt me, but I'm willing to gamble that his haul will be manageable this week.

      I wouldn't. I think there's every chance Ivan will out score Chambers, and that Pelle/Welbs will out score Costa.

    My top 5 captain picks:

    1) Sanchez (don't own, purely going off form and fixture on paper - however with Marney back, it depends on which Burnley turn up in terms of pressing and defending)

    2) Aguero/Fabregas - joint 2nd faves behind Sanchez

    4) Baines (I own, but very risky, as it always is with defenders)

    5) Hazard (don't own), but aside from Fabregas, think this fixture will suit him moreso than Costa.

      I live in Brussels, it's a brilliant city.

      What are you into? I recommend you go to a bar called Poechenellekelder for some Belgian - it's gorgeous inside and very traditionally Belgian.

      For food, there's a delicious and really inexpensive place called Fin Du Siecle (go before 7.30 though or the queue will be out the door). They do amazing food and beer and you can try Belgiam stoemp - like bangers and mash, super delicious.

      A) Sterling over Ramsey (Ramsey not assured of gametime and has been off form)
      B) Costa if his game time looks assured

        Ramsey does well every time he starts I think . Last season when he returned from that long injury too. I know he'll start the next three at least . Having said that I'll probably take your advice and keep raheem 😆

          I've watched every minute of every Arsenal game this season and in my opinion Ramsey's been poor every time he's been on the pitch (even the first few games when he scored, he was quite poor). I think and hope he'll get his form back but it might take a few games IMHO

            I don't think Ramsey will ever play like he did last season as it was just one of those golden periods for a player, he's levelled out now.

            His appeal last year was also his price, it's not quite there this year especially when Walcott will be back soon at the same price.

    Forster
    Clyne - Luis - Dawson (Naylor/PvA)
    ADM - Cesc - Siggy - Sterling (Boyd)
    Costa - Kun - Berahino

    2 FT's, £0.3 ITB.

    REALLY bored of that template midfield tbh. Any suggestions are welcome.

      Downgrade Naylor or PVA to Wisdom or Dummett or Alcaraz in order to fund (in order of preference for me):

      A) ADM -> Sanchez
      B) Siggy -> Mane/Barkely/Chadli/Downing (in order of pref)
      C) Cesc -> Hazard (IMO Hazard is due an explosion and Fab will likely miss a game for suspension soon)

      Any chance you could return the favour for me?

    Forster - Guzan
    Baines - Bertrand - Chambers - Hutton - Moore
    di Maria - Sterling - Tadic - Siggy - Boyd
    Aguero - Costa - Welbeck

    0,2ITB, 2FT

    What would you change here? I'm scared to go without sanchez vs Burnley, but I ve no idea how could I fit him here. Doing Aguero & Tadic -> Pelle and Alexis would be madness, right?

      Great team! I wouldn't get rid of Aguero so that's a no from me regarding your proposed transfers. Tough to make use of an FT with that squat. Only thing I can think is to ditch either Forster or Bertrand before Southampton's tough run in a few weeks.

      Nice team. Some thoughts:

      Step 1: Raise some funds
      a) Welbeck->Berahino
      b) Siggy->Downing

      Step 2: Upgrade:
      a) ADM->Sanchez
      b) Sterling->Hazard

    Decided i'm getting rid of Adm for Hazard/Costa.. Dont like Manutd's away games until Jan and someone's gotta go for a Chelsea Attacker

    Krulliott
    Terry Baines Clyne Duff Yun
    Eriksen Tadic Sterling Siggy Adm
    Aguero Welbeck VARDY
    1 million and 1 FT

    Need help choosing the direction i head in
    A) Adm to Hazard this week and get Sakho for Vardy next week and continue without Costa(dont wanna lose Aguero or Welbeck who i got @6.9)
    B) Adm + Vardy to Costa + Boyd(-4) (and probably forget about sakho as i want Welbeck)

        would mean a hit and still leave me with Vardy though.. i've had Eriksen from the start and do honestly think he'll outscore most premium mids come January. Same with Sterling. Dont have a high TV so gotta go for value here and there

      But really think this should be posted as Rank first and then Tv ie in order of importance.

    UFPL this week I have to choose 3 out of the following 4 to play Saturday -

    Costa - (QPR,h)
    Berahino - (Lei,a)
    Pelle - (Hull,a)
    Wellbeck - (Bur,h)

    I've got Fabregas and Ramsey but no other attacking players from any side. Who would you drop?

    How's this looking? First on the Rooney bandwagon 🙂

    Forster / 4.0

    Ivanovic / Kompany / Baines (Wisdom/Duff)

    Hazard (c) / Siggy / Downing / Tadic (King)

    Aguero / Rooney / Welbeck

    Krul Foster

    Clyne Kaboul Naylor Pva Duff

    Adm Silva Sterling Siggy Boyd

    Aguero Costa Welbeck

    0.3 ITB and 2 Free transfers

    I was thinking of doing Naylor to Moore and Silva to Fabregas, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      You could consider Welbeck to Berahino and Silva to Sanchez (maintains your Arsenal coverage). Any chance you could take a look at my team?

    In my draft league I have doubts over both Falcao and Silva, both of which I want long term due to the lack of options.

    I want a one week punt however before I bring them back, so do I:

    A.) silva --> Cazorla (BUR)

    Or

    B.) Falcao--> Naismith (SWA)

    Need to lose Naismith I think with him moved to the wing and maybe place in starting 11 threatened with others gaining fitness.
    Thinking Naismith and Zaha (punt that didn't work) to Berahino and Boyd (-4 but need to do Zaha to Boyd to free up money)
    Does this sound good? Saw someone saying Zaha might be a decent pick but I don't see it.

    Which mid would you bring in between sanchez, hazard and fabregas? Sanchez and hazard looking like good differentials but fabregas has been very consistent - not sure if he iss till going to be playing so deep?

      Long term Fab (although not sure on price, paying for consistency not explosiveness)

    A) Sterling -> Oscar

    Have a gut feeling Hazard will explode.

      Wouldn't do either of those, unless you have no Chelsea attacking cover
