Scout Scribbles – Sturridge and Balotelli Boost for Liverpool

Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli could both be in line for a weekend return for Liverpool. Steven Taylor is expected to be in contention for Newcastle, Aaron Ramsey concedes he’s not yet returned to full match sharpness, Billy Jones nears his Sunderland comeback, whilst Harry Kane’s form continues with a brace for England Under 21s.

Strikers On Verge of Reds Return

Reports surfacing yesterday suggest that Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is expected to be fit for his side’s clash with Crystal Palace this weekend, despite being sent home from international training with Italy with a groin concern. Daniel Sturridge, meanwhile, has dropped a major hint on Instagram that he, too, will be fit for the trip to Selhurst Park.

The Scout Says: Could we finally be set to see the two Liverpool forwards paired together for only the second time this season? The last time it happened, against Spurs in Gameweek 3, saw Brendan Rodgers’ side deliver unquestionably their best performance of the season as they ran out with a comfortable 3-0 victory. Raheem Sterling found himself on the scoresheet that day, and having notched just once since, his performances having taking a significant downturn since Sturridge was sidelined and Rodgers moved to a lone striker system. With his international team-mate now back in contention, however, we could see the young midfielder return to his dangerous best, and he couldn’t ask for a better place to start than against Palace this weekend, whose dire defensive performances have seen them concede two or more goals in four of their last five showings. With more decent fixtures to follow for Liverpool (STO, lei, SUN) both Sterling, at 8.5, and Sturridge, at 11.1, are poised to scale our Watchlists in the coming weeks.

MAGPIES HOPEFUL OF TAYLOR RECOVERY

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is expected to recover from a knee problem in time to face QPR this weekend – contrary to reports that he had suffered a further injury setback during the international break.

The Scout Says: It’s been a merry-go-round couple of days for Taylor’s recent influx of owners, with earlier reports indicating that he could be out for up to four weeks having now been quashed. The 3.9-valued centre-back has picked up in popularity after securing a starting spot in a backline that has accumulated three clean sheets in their last four Gameweeks, though with skipper Fabricio Coloccini a doubt for the Gameweek 12 meeting with QPR, the Magpies’ defensive credentials could be put to the test this weekend: the Argentine has started every league match this season, and earned bonus points each time they have managed a shutout. Taylor’s return is likely to move Mike Williamson further down the pecking order – after recovering from injury last time around, the latter was handed a spot on the bench as Pardew opted for Paul Dummett alongside Coloccini at centre-half and the young Welshman could be tasked with filling in at the heart of defence until the Magpies have a full quota to choose from.

RAMSEY CONCEDES HE’S NOT FULLY FIT

Aaron Ramsey has spoken out about his recent criticism and admitted that he is yet to reach 100% this season:

“I’ve had a few injuries this season and I’m just getting back. To be honest, I’m still not 100 per cent physically there. The injuries do take a bit out of me. It will take me a few more games to be back to my best. But I’m not worried. I know my qualities. Certain criticism from people is unfair.”

The Scout Says: The Welshman was handed his first start since Gameweek 6 last time around against Swansea, as Arsene Wenger continues to ease him back into action following his injury difficulties. Having made such a positive start to the campaign, Ramsey is now without a goal since Gameweek 2, and, what’s more, the Gunners’ recent move to a 4-4-2 formation is likely to limit his ability to get forward as much: indeed, his performance at the Liberty saw him register an ICT rating of just 3.0, as opposed to an average of 14.4 across his first three displays of the season. Should Wenger stick with the same system, Theo Walcott – once fully fit – should feature on the flanks or possibly up top on occasion, and thus looks a better option than the 8.8-priced Ramsey for a similar price (9.0).

JONES EDGES CLOSER TO BLACK CAST COMEBACK

Reports confirm Billy Jones is expected to feature in training in under two weeks’ time as he nears his Sunderland return.

The Scout Says: Having finally broken into the first XI back in Gameweek 6, his subsequent injury the following week has come as a real blow for the right back, whose start to life at the Stadium of Light since his summer move from West Brom has been far from idyllic. His absence, coupled with further injuries amongst the Black Cats’ backline, has also allowed the error-prone Wes Brown increased pitch time, and the former United man is the prime candidate to make way upon Jones’ comeback, with Santiago Vergini then set to move back to the centre of defence in order to allow the former Baggies man the right-back berth. With four hugely testing fixtures (CHE, MCI, liv, WHM) proceeding this weekend’s trip to Leicester, Jones’ return will hand Gus Poyet a major boost as he attempts to continue the form which has seen his side earn four points from the last two Gameweeks.

KANE DOUBLE NOT ENOUGH FOR ENGLAND

Tottenham’s Harry Kane scored twice for England Under-21s last night as they lost 3-2 to France.

The Scout Says: Handed a first league start of the season against Stoke in Gameweek 11 after notching 10 goals in his previous 14 appearances, Kane’s form continues to impress. Last night’s brace will be a real confidence boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to Hull and, at 4.8, the youngster could offer managers a superb budget forward option if he can carry on his scoring form and hold on to his first team spot. Whilst matches against Everton and Chelsea in the next three may deter many, it’s worth noting that neither have impressed defensively so far and have mustered just three clean sheets apiece in the opening 11 Gameweeks. The following four (CPL, swa, BUR, lei) all look promising and should offer Kane a chance to oust midfielder Nacer Chadli as the best value route into Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the final third.

Really unsure with defenders right now. Outside of Chelsea, who is the most likely to keep the clean sheets?

I'm really unsure if there is any better option for the Christmas period.

Next GW I'm looking to do, for free:
    Clyne > Naylor
    Moore > Caulker

    It leaves me with:

    Courtois 4.0
    Baines Caulker Naylor Wisdom Saylor
    Sanchez ADM Siggy Chadli Albrighton
    Aguero Costa Sakho

    0.2 ITB

The defense is a perfect rotation until January. With Courtois and Baines, too, it should be sufficient until the WC.

    Any suggestions? Thanks, all.

That was my thought, mate. And, my planned transfers. However, people talked me out of it being so close to the WC and what not, so pointless wasting transfers on GK's. At least I've got Chelsea defensive coverage, though, unlike many.

For my sins, I'd rather have Austin than Sakho. Goal drought imminent possibly with Carroll also in the background. You'd know better than I regarding Albrighton as a 5th mid!

Guess I'm stuck with Sakho, for the time being. A change to Austin is easily done, though. - I'd ideally like avoid a double up (Caulker).

I've been quoted on saying he has a 50/50 chance in starting this weekend. He has only lost his place temporarily, due to our bad form. - he's too good to be permanently dropped, imo.

Wasilewski has been playing well, but nothing spectacular (nothing more than what Moore did). If Moore doesn't play this week, however, I'll be getting rid, and I suggest you do likewise.

Could do with some help chaps dropping one from my draft side for this week...

    a) Mangala (SWA)
    b) Kaboul (hul)
    c) Bertrand(ava)
    d) Trippier (sto)

    Thanks

Mangala -- I'm guessing he's the most expensive player and I could see Swansea getting the odd goal.

Mangala IMO, but I'd rather have him over Kaboul long term.

Pelle away @ Villa Park and Austin away @ Newcastle.

Who d'you guys reckon will score the most this GW? Planning Pelle ➡ Austin after this GW but seriously considering getting Austin now after hearing of Collo being ruled out.

Over Christmas, I'd probably prefer to pphave defenders as auto-subs, personally. (Check his fixtures around then). Better to have 15 starters, though.

I don't see why, with Everton's fixtures, you would choose to redistribute funds now if that's the route you have gone. I'd just play Chester and hold Baines, personally.

WC is worth a lot more than 8 points. Just play a defender short if need be.

    A few questions:

    1) would you rather:
    A) Reid + Austin
    B) Caulker + Sakho + 0.3

    2) Boyd the best cheap midfielder/bench fodder?
    3) McGeady or Buckley? (draft game)

    1. FortunesAlwaysHiding
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

A, I think so and Buckley but not with current fixtures.

    2. Wilshere Knowledge
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

      1) A, because there isn't much between Sakho and Austin, but I really don't trust QPR defence.

      2) I'd say so. He will get 2 points every week, but unlikely to get more. The fact he scored when people needed him a few weeks ago was absolutely ridiculous.

      3) McGeady- on some set pieces, and the better player in a better team. I haven't seen much from Buckley and I hardly think he is nailed on either.

Should I swap Buckley out and bring McGeady in, then?

    5. rickardinho
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Lol, you must have the most over-analyzed and discussed FPL team on the internet by now!

      In any case:
      1) i'd pick Caulker-Austin
      2) i'm not a fan of the cheap 5th mid, especially in the December rotation month, but Boyd is probably as good as you can get. Consider Zamora(352) or Wanyama as well
      3) Nice to see that you're already up and running in the draft league! You'll probably want to stick with buckley this week rather than dumping him for mcgeady. Buckley plays leicester this weekend and mcgeady is a rotation risk (hence why he is a free agent)

Let me know if you fancy a trade, I'm the most active wheeler-dealer in the league and am aways open to listen to offers. 😉

        Cheers, Rickardinho.

Just posted in the 'live chat'. Can't really see Sunderland doing anything vs Leicester and he has terrible fixtures. Prone to rotation, too. In any case, I was going to play double-Stoke defence this week. Meaning he would miss out.

I would-- in a heartbeat. You don't have any pressing transfer right? Also, wait till the international break's over. Just in case a player gets injured.

        • 10 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

I have Baines and Cesc, oh and Tadic (heard he has an injury?) but 1FT, 0.0 ITB which means I can do bera > Austin straight swap, no change so I think I'd do it now to keep safe on any price changes.

Colo out is good for austin though yeah

Also, wasn't planning on binning either Cesc or Baines. Don't think either is too serious.

Baines is supposed to be out for 2weeks no? Hopefully his price drops a fair amount by then.

            I could't find anything about Tadic's injury on here : http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php

I'd still wait till the press conferences and then make the transfer. I don't see Austin rising this GW-- Or at the very least, not before Friday.

“Right now I live in the present,” the Argentine superstar told Ole. “I’m thinking about having a great year and winning the titles that we want at Barcelona. And nothing more. After we will see. A lot changes in football... I have always said that I would live to start there forever, sometimes things don't work out as you plan.

"Many times I've said it. If it were up to me I would stay for every. But as I have said, things don't always work out as you plan them. More so in football, where so many things change and so many things happen. It's complicated, more so right now with what is happening at Barcelona."
