Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 13 – The Weak

After taking a look at those clubs with kind upcoming schedules yesterday evening, we turn our attentions to those with some tough fixtures to follow. Trouble could be brewing for the Tyne-Wear duo, whilst the Saints’ recent rise to prominence is set to be put to the test.

Sunderland

“frisking

Unbeaten in their last three, the Black Cats will need to retain that recent resilience to navigate a tricky fixture list. Gus Poyet’s side entertain Chelsea, Man City and West Ham in the next four – the three highest scoring away sides in the league so far.

With a trip to Liverpool also to consider in the next four, the Wearsiders will surely remain off Fantasy radars for now. At the back, Costel Pantilimon has earned 14 points in three starts since taking over from Vito Mannone and will at least offer save point potential, whilst Steven Fletcher faces a tough task to continue the form which has brought four goals and an assist in his last six appearances.

Stoke

“frisking

Last weekend’s home defeat to Burnley is hardly ideal preparation for what’s to follow. With his injury-hit defence conceding in each of the last six and key winger Victor Moses out for up to eight weeks, Mark Hughes has his work cut out to steer Stoke up the table over the next few matches.

The Potters will be looking for Bojan to maintain the form that has earned him a goal, assist and four bonus points in the last two matches, but with showdowns against Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in the next six Gameweeks alone, Hughes is afforded little reason for festive cheer right now.

Newcastle

“frisking

The league’s form side have now won five on the spin and collected four clean sheets over that period but whether they can prevail over an evil fixture schedule is perhaps debatable.

Alan Pardew’s side travel to West Ham, Arsenal and United in the next six, and with Chelsea paying visit, in addition to a derby showdown with Sunderland, it leaves only a Gameweek 14 trip to Burnley looking full of promise. Budget option Paul Dummett and raiding right-back Daryl Janmaat may struggle to serve up the defensive returns, whilst further up the field, the cut-price duo Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez could have their current form curtailed.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Sitting second in the table after 13 rounds of fixtures, Ronald Koeman’s side now present us with the classic case of form against fixtures. A defence that has conceded a single goal in their last five now squares up to City, Arsenal, United and Everton in the next five – Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League game but their owners may find returns slowing over this period, with many looking for a way out. The erratic Dusan Tadic, with eight blanks in 12 appearances, and the off-form Graziano Pelle – without a shot on target in the last four and just one booking shy of a ban – may well be set for an exodus as the returns dry up.

Hull
The short-term schedule is unrelenting on Steve Bruce’s out-of-sorts side, with Hull travelling to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks. With just one goal and a single point to their name over the last four, the Tigers will need to dig deep to get anything from those matches – Bruce will be hoping the fit-again pair Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson can make a difference at both ends of the pitch but the KC pickings look slim to none right now.

Crystal Palace
Victories against the likes of Everton and Liverpool show that, on their day, Neil Warnock’s side can mix it with the best of them. Palace will need to carry on from the form that swept aside the Reds last Sunday, though, as they now face trips to Swansea, Spurs and City, in addition to the visit of Southampton over the next six. Home encounters with Villa and Stoke still look promising for key man Yannick Bolasie, whilst Mile Jedinak’s dead-ball duties continue to keep the Eagles skipper in contention as a valid budget option.

Evening. Sakho dropping is great for me price wise, but is he out? The West Ham news has been quite confusing.

      Hello!

I'd wait for the Big Sam presser for any official news. Some random quotes from random people with random twitter accounts have been saying that afew hammers are 50/50, but its all abit iffy. I have Downing and won't be budging until the fat Sam sings.

Btw, mind weighing in on this?: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/11/26/frisking-the-fixtures-gameweek-13-the-weak-2/?hc_page=13#hc_comment_8916943 Its regarding a trade dispute I'm having in the draft league.

Forster, Wilson, Eriksen & Baines >> Fabianski, Yun, Di Maria & Azpi for -8:??

    Will give me.......

    Fabianski(Elliot)
    Chambers Yun Azpi (Duff, Hutton)
Sanchez Hazard Di Maria Siggy (Boyd)
    Aguero Costa Austin

I heartily welcome any of your advice 🙂

      1. Don't ditch Baines
      2. Never take a -8

Just do Forster > Fabianski & save, or a token other transfer (Wilson/Chambers > Taylor)

Baines is a season keeper though, you can grin and bear 2 MIA weeks for the odd penalty and assist & with Eriksen, think of it as having him at the start of him hitting his form ... he goes in and out of it then gets dropped, but at least you'll have him in form for a week or two!

I wouldn't make the transfers because of 1) and I don't think this is the right time to take out Eriksen. I'd disagree with the 'never take -8' advice though, you just need there to a substantial reason to do so (check my gameweek 4)

I've already done the moves , im doing Bego to Heaton next and then upgrading Moore with the change , I can afford Bego to Fabianski but that leaves me with 0itb and stuck with Moore (2 man bench over Xmas period got stung by that last week

I didn't want to take a -8 , but it seemed with Downing out for a bit and Welbeck not guaranteed game time or a start I had to do it , Boyd and Hutton can cover Chadli and Baines who I also have but Moore is the other sub , and with Swans 2 'easy ' homes it seemed perfect (Bertie to Yun wss enabler for funds and it suits fixtures too )

              Hi all,

Playing in a keeper league where no player can be owned twice, this means the following players I would want are out of bounds: Taylor, ADM, Sanchez, Hazard, Costa

Any improvements on this WC - have 0.7 left over:

              Fabianski / 4.0
              Baines, Azpilicueta, Cresswell, Hutton, Wisdom
              Oscar, Fabregas, Chadli, Siggurdson, Bolassie
              Aguero, Rooney, Austin

              Many thanks 🙂

Does a keeper league effectively mean once you sell a player you can't buy him back later? If so you've shot yourself in the foot with those you've sold already 😛

Probably best to hold steady for now. Great team

I'm sweating on Chadli, it must be bad though to have no news or update after the scan, Baines is a worry too because I see someone (Walsh I think ) said they had Coleman earlier season and was the same stuff from RM and he ended up being out for a month, not fussed immediate future though got Boyd and Hutton nice 0-0 that looks 9 points plus potential bonus between them

                ------------------- Guzan ---------------------

Did Pelle+Marney > Austin+Siggy with my 2FT before the price rises

Is it worth shipping Moore for a 4point hit?

                Baines+Duff doubtful, Clyne(CITY), Wisdom(ARS)

If Baines is ruled out you can play it safe and avoid the hit and play 10 men , or gamble Moore > Yun , a clean sheet looks likely so that's +2 points plus possible attacking points , if it don't pay off your team will be in better shape coz you need a full bench for busy period , I would take the hit but I'm a gambler I don't play safe

                  Fabianski
                  Baines Naylor Clyne

                  Forster Boyd Chambers Hutton

Obvious question marks hanging over Baines, Sakho and Diame but the bench looks likely to cover them ok if any don't play?

Double Swansea's defense is too much, especially paired up with Clyne. Diamè is not a stronger fourth MF at the moment so the MF is pretty weak overall. Forster and Fabianski...too much money there; you need to re-shape the team.

I'm gonna do Pelle>Ings for a hit (to partially finance Tadic>Hazard, also for a hit), which will give me Aguero-Austin-Ings.

With Hazard in form and all the cheap mids dropping like flies I think the value is in the fwds now, and these two have fixtures, form, and pens, so why not?! 🙂

What forward line are you looking at getting?

                    Hazard ADM Sanchez Boyd
                    Aguero Austin

Last two spots are either 4.4 mid and Bony or Siggy and 5.8m fwd...

Was all set to do just that for Oscar, but Baines is making me value Clyne and his output even more. The holiday fixtures are no time to have only three playable defenders.

Clyne won't score every week and his fixtures are just awful; i have him myself but i'm going to ditch him next week.

I'd go for Siggy and 5.8 fwd. You'll need the 8th fwd for the fixtures ahead, and i think siggy can outscore bony too

Well enough for me to consider him as a Downing replacement. He can play across the midfield so that's no worry.

he'd be a great pick if there wasn't so much rotation risk. walcott, cazorla, ramsey, sanchez, wilshere, welbeck, and to a lesser extent rosicky, podolski, arteta, flamini... so many mids/wingers

Indeed. Wilshere and Arteta are out for a while, so that forces Ramsey to CM. Walcott who the hell knows what's going on with him lately? Podolski is left sided. Looks about as nailed as you can get for the foreseeable.

I think it's worth it , all four players in will score decent this gw, it gets rid of dead wood Luis and gives a playing sub , only downside is your losing Baines would have been perfect if it was Clyne instead

Last few times Utd have played Hull they have put at least 3 goals past them. Shame I don't own Rooney this week. I want to captain Di Maria but he's more likely to assist than score.

Chambers really is turning out be a Raylor type troll getting gametime even when you expect him to be benched with players returning.. with Arteta out injured is Chambers in line for a holding role when Debuchy returns?

West Brom's right side of their defense is possibly the worst in the premier league.

I have to deal with 8 players that have major issues right now. Even 2FT's can't fix this 🙁

Any advice as to how I should approach this disaster?

I have Baines, Chadli, Sakho, Clyne and Bertrand(i sold Pellè for Austin). Now i'm waiting for news on Chadli, Baines and Downing to know how to spend my second transfer but even with Baines, Chadli and Sakho not playing in the past GW i've got a big green arrow.

Yeah, major surgery is required I think. Its a freak GW, it happens, best to deal with it as best you can, spend some points, then move on.

Yep, the structure of my team doesn't help. I'd like to get a big hitting mid in like Hazard or ADM but I can't see a way to do so without selling one of my 5 able players such as Costa 🙁

Have you used your WC? If so, a -4 or -8 could get you back on track.

Unfortunately yes. Although I can attribute that WC to my rise up the ranks. I think an 8pt hit is inevitable.

At least the Saints are fit and healthy , Moore and Duff is a problem as you may have a 2 man back line , I would do Moore >Yun to guarantee 3 starting defenders

Yeah good advice. I'm even contemplating riding out the Chadlii and Downing injuries if they are likely to return soon. In which case I might sort my defence out and consider having 4 or even 5 starting defenders just for this GW.

I'm also in the same boat. Coming out of the international break I thought, "I'll dump Albrighton and have a playing 5th midfielder to get me through the injuries/hectic festive period." I bought Victor Moses 😆

I think the good news is that while Pelle/Tadic have been terrible lately and their fixtures are terrible, they're still playing 90 minutes for a good team, so my advice would be to not rush them out too quickly, particularly if you get bad news on Downing and Chadli.

Yeah so much is riding on those two midfielders. Really can't afford to sell them right now but if the news is bad I'll have no choice.

Hard luck on Moses as well, he was starting to hit form and you were just dreadfully unlucky. Its that time of year when form can dip and injuries and rotation creaps in. It gets difficult now.

You are right about the Saints guys. I'm probably going to have to keep and hope they do well. Getting at least 11 fit players is the priority and hopefully the better part of a full squad too.

Duff is not a problem as he is easy to bench. No alternative for downing unless u sell baines which involve a hit. Might as well wait till next gw and see what happen.

I think your defence will be fine for now. Keep and eye on the Duff and Baines injuries, hopefully at least one of them will be ok this GW.

Downing might need to be sold unfortunately, although its rather awkward with few options in that price range and downgrading another player probably still wont fetch you enough cash to upgrade Downing to a big hitter.

If you want to take a bit of a gamble though, consider downgrading Ivan and getting Oscar as your 3rd Chelsea player and tripling up on their attack. I normally hate the triple up but their fixtures are very good and could prove worthwhile. Its a bit of a nuts risk though.

Just read that thread. Shocking. I am with you -- too many people skewer forwards when they do other things on the pitch to help the team. Is it his fault he has so much intelligence on the pitch and is such a good passer? He might not be a bloodless asshole who feels his reason for living is ball in the net, but that should elevate hit diminish him as a player.

As usual, we are in absolute agreement. Don't know why so many don't understand the sacrifices he's made over the years. And then they turn around and talk about Lampard as if he's in the same category. Infuriating.

It really depends on his position. If he plays more or less up top and gets plenty of touches in the box he will be good. If not, then he will be bad. Its too hard to say where he will be deployed though.

Thats true. They will probably continue to play with same set-up which was used against Arsenal, right? In that case, Rooney will be worth investing but Falcao is also back in training... :/

Playing in a keeper league where no player can be owned by more than one player, this means the following players I would want are out of bounds: Taylor, ADM, Sanchez, Hazard, Costa - as they are owned by others.

How does this WC team look?

                              Fabianski
                              Baines, Azpilicueta, Trippier (Hutton, Yun)
                              Fabregas, Oscar, Barkley, Siggy (Boyd)
                              Rooney, Bony, Aguero

Both on the way up , Bertrand will probably rise first but neither for a while unless Azpi gets attacking points I would say so no worries about that

Bertrand and Azpi not expected to rise anytime soon. FPL stats says about 10k more transfers in for Bertrand and 24k for Azpi before either goes up. You should be safe.

Barkley always a rotation risk, so I stay away. Chadli better than Barkley, but wouldn't pick him up on WC unless the yellow flag is removed.
