Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 14

A 2-0 win over QPR handed Swansea a sixth clean sheet of the season but Tuesday evening’s triumph came at a cost for Garry Monk’s side as ever-present Neil Taylor toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. After earning his fifth caution of the campaign, the left-back is one of four players who are set to serve a one-match ban this weekend as he sits on the sidelines for the Welsh club’s trip to West Ham.

Chelsea are once again deprived of a first-team regular due to suspension ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Newcastle. This time round Jose Mourinho needs to make do without Nemanja Matic after the midfield enforcer earned a fifth yellow in last night’s home win over Tottenham.

Andi Weimann and Wes Morgan will both miss Villa’s home clash against Leicester. The former earned his fifth yellow in midweek, while the latter received his marching orders against Liverpool. Morgan’s absence offering Liam Moore the chances of a rare start for the visitors but, up against Christian Benteke, he may well struggle to bring in the points as Nigel Pearson’s side attempt to improve upon a run of one clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

Taking stock of the Tightrope after the midweek matches, we now have 22 players sitting just one caution away from a ban. Essentially, one more yellow card in the next five Gameweeks (until the extension kicks in on January 1) for any of them will trigger an automatic one-match suspension. From a Fantasy perspective, Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 51% of sides) is the most high profile, though owners of the likes of Graziano Pelle, Vincent Kompany, Morgan Schneiderlin, Daryl Janmaat and Ryan Shawcross also have cause for concern.

Stoke, Southampton and Hull are most affected here – each of those sides have a trio of players teetering on the Tightrope as we head towards Gameweek 15.

As Fantasy managers are more than aware, Diego Costa is back for Chelsea after sitting out last night’s clash against Spurs. There’s no doubt his disciplinary record on the road is a worry, though – having been booked in all five away appearances, he’ll need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of facing another suspension later in the season.

Newcastle welcome back a couple of midfielders for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko looking set to return to first-team duties. City’s defensive worries also ease a little as Everton roll up to the Etihad. With Vincent Kompany expected to remain on the sidelines, Eliaquim Mangala is available once again, after sitting out Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Gaston Ramirez and Claudio Yacob will serve the last of three-match bans this weekend as Hull welcome West Brom to the KC.

I'd be worried about bringing him in. The fact that Zouma looks next in line at CB instead of Iva means he's much more likely to be rotated.

Good to go or is there an obvious hit i'm missing? I have Smalling on the bench but don't want to risk doubling up on united's defence. Moore should play with Morgan being suspended this week/ Thoughts?

I was thinking that. United defence are a good differential amongst the top 10k (im sitting 1.8k overall). Smalling also good for a goal now and then. This would never have happened if Rangel hadn't been inexplicably dropped on Tuesday, thus I chased the Smalling clean sheet!

Is now the time for Ramsey?

Look at his underlying stats for the last 2-4 gameweeks. With the exception of chances created, he is matching if not exceeding Sanchez for shots in box, shots, touches in box. Just that his shot accuracy is poor.

Considering him as a differential in my midfield.

      My Team:

      DeGea Manonne
      Clyne Baines Chambers Wisdom Bruce
      Wanyama Sig Chadli Fab Mata
      Aguero Costa Austin

Suddenly it feels terrible! Thinking of either a -4 to Baines > Azi and Fab > Sanchez - then look to take further -4 to regain Chelsea mid coverage next week with Hazard?

The other option I have is a WC play to get in the likes of Azi, Sanchez, Hazard, Fab, Downing e.t.c? My usual tactic is to save the WC for the run in though so a bit uncomfortable doing it now!

How comes Hazard and Oscar are included in the watchlist? I generally thought that it was a one player from each club type thing? And if you're going to have two Chelsea midfielders in there, the second should be Cesc given his consistency.

There's definitely an anti-Fabregas feel about these parts at the moment.

You have to take into account prices. Those who have had Fabregas from the start probably have no incentive to sell but if you were looking to buy a Chelsea midfielder today, few would pick Cesc since he costs nearly as much as Hazard, and has 4 yellow cards. And if you look over the last 5 matches or so, both Oscar and Hazard are matching him in terms of points/consistency.

We often have two from the same team and same position if they are both good prospects and there's a notable price difference.

For example we have had Sterling and Henderson. If say ADM wasn't injured and ManU's fixtures looked incredible there would be a case for Fellaini and ADM as well.

Fabregas is on 4 yellows, plus doesn't have the same goal threat as Hazard or Oscar. He is an exceptional talent in terms of assists. We monitor all the time, but as was proved this week Hazard and Oscar offer good points potential plus choice with their different prices.

I understand Debuchy is 1 week away from group training. So he will have around 2 more weeks with the group before he starts getting substitute appearances. This means Chambers will play all December. Sounds right? Trying to decide whether it is a good idea to get him.

I guess if possible I'd try to spend the extra .8 for Koscielny at this point. You could be right, but none of us really know when Debuchy will be back, so buying Chambers now seems quite risky to me.

There's talk of playing him vs Galatadaray and Newcastle. I would be amazed if he'd get more than a cameo in both of them, however. So I'd suggest that Chambers has at least Stoke and most of Newcastle to go. Plus he'll more than likely get a start over xmas to rest Mertesacker.

A heads up, there won't be a ScoutCast tonight I'm afraid for the following reasons:

    1) it was birthday on wednesday and, due to the Gameweek being midweek, I had to work through and move my cards and presents to today/tonight.

    2) I shouldn't have to spend my birthday with Granville for company.

    3) I'm sulking because I captained Bony over Aguero

    4) I'm out of the cup too.

Mainly, it's number 1 though - my family think I'm a little odd for not opening any presents or cards yesterday because I was too busy with the work and the site. I couldn't put it off again tonight and edit the ScoutCast.

Rest assured, I only have one birthday a year and we'll be back next week.

Boyd (qpr) Sanchez (stk) Fab (new) Siggy (whu)
Costa (new) Austin (BUR) Aguero (EVE)

Have a measly 0.3 itb and 1FT and a lot of players playing away this week. Anything worth doing or should I save?

    Begovic / Elliot
    Naylor / Hutton / Clyne / Chambers / Bruce
    Eriksen / Sanchez / Yaya / Sterling / Gulfy
    Costa / Kane / Bony

    0,1 ITB 1FT
    Any suggestions?
think to get rid of Begovic to Guzan/Foster
and maybe finaly make room for Aguero cuz he is killing me but I just got Yaya.

I could do Yaya Bony - > Aguero Downing

    It's very simple.

All you have to do is type one letter.

    B. Downing

    C . Sterling
