FFS Paddy Power Cup X – Second Round Draw

This afternoon, we roll out the second round draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup X, as sponsored by Paddy Power, and cast our eye over the dramatic events of the first round.

Among the heroes of the first round were Ralphypne. His tally of 64 was the highest score of the round and earns him £25 worth of free bets with Paddy Power, thanks to Alan Hutton’s goal scoring prowess and his decision to captain Charlie Austin. He now faces up to 03protermic in the second round.

Other notable victors were Weston Wasters and Confundido, who respectively dispatched previous winners MCH and myself. Just one former winner remains, with GoonerDave left to carry the flag in round two, against community regular Aaron Ramessi.

In another key match up between regular community members Daniel emerged victorious in his clash with SuperDunny and will square up to BuddArmy in the second round.

Mark and Granville’s Scoutcast team also lost out, beaten by Clueless XI and his selection of Graziano Pelle as captain. Granville, however, marches on after beating Juramentardo and takes on Senile Delimquent in the second round.

The second round will also see a number of community regulars battle it out with Gnu taking on Arvin-ation, our moderator Greenwindmill facing TommyJ and Sporting against Bouncebackability.

Luke Keenan has one of the toughest second round matches,  drawing one of  the competition’s highest ranked managers Randymilla, who is 35th overall. A staggering 639,140 places separate this pair. Jimmy the Gent, who has a rank of 2,970, also has a tough draw, as he squares up to our highest ranked remaining competitor 29th placed Jonny.

The full list of first round results can be found here, while the second round draw in full can be found here.

Good luck to those involved in the weekend’s action. In the meantime, though, if you’re looking for more information on the Scout Cup schedule and prizes available, click this link for a more thorough rundown.

I think he might be. Mou keeps talking about getting people their rest. Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to do it, as he usually would, but didn't.

Because he rested Ivan instead, who is older and thus more prone to fatigue. Azpili is 25, extremely fit and has a playstyle that is pretty low risk when it comes to injuries. The fact that they have Luis and Azpili is the only one not rotated as of yet could indicate that its a possibility, but i cant see him benched more than one game for the rest of the year. Hes just too integral.

Yeah you're right. People scaremonger about rotation as if it's the worst thing that ever happened. Unless you're Clichy/Kolarov, the chances are your defender will miss one game out of 5/6. It just becomes luck if you have a decent sub for that rare occasion. Gotta roll with it.

The reason Clichy/Kolarov rotates in the difference in playstyles and the different things that they provide and what the team have to sacrifice for it. Its completely game dependent. And theyre pretty close in ability. In Azpilis case hes capable of fitting any tactics Mourinho pull out, and hes by far their best LB. In conclusion i dont think rotation should discourage anyone from buying Azpili.

I love how in a post discussing your worst ever GW, you still managed YET AGAIN to mention your 35th place finish! 😆

I believe that is the first time my defence has returned a minus sum. Although the year i finished 35th i had a minus 4 from Debuchy one week.

          This week:

I believe that this is the first time all my forwards have scored a brace. Although the year I finished 35th I had 7 goals from my forwards, including Dzekos 4 goals at WHL.

Is it still rude when its considered that obvious? You have team that scores the least against the team that conceded the least, thus concluding that Clyne is atleast a given.

Thanks for the replies. I own Wisdom for matches like this, and Boyd for weeks like this, but with Benteke on board I am hedging regardless of my moves.

Clyne + Boyd has a certain degree of bet-hedging to it. Also the 2 better players with a sniff of goal threat.

Basically Wisdom should always be benched, esp. in a derby vs. Benteke.

Yeah, its a tough call. I'm leaning towards Forster, but could easily be swayed. Its a 50/50 call IMHO.

Newcastle are playing their rooky goalkeeper.
Maybe Giroud will play up top, with Sanchez and co. firing is some crosses?
A bit old fashioned, but it works for Andy Carroll.

Does it really matter whether or not hes a decent keeper? Its the defence thats causing Leicester to leak goals. Would you have bought DDG if he played for Leicester?

Should have put in there that he didnt cost 4m. My point (as poorly stated as it may have been), when you buy a Leicester keeper, you dont care about his actual goalkeeping abilities that much. At the end of the day hes still gonna be the keeper behind the very average defensive outfit that is Leicester.

    Foster
    Ivanovic, Wisdom, Azpic
    Sanchez Downing Hazard Sigurdsson
    *Aguero, Rooney, *Austin

    (Krul, Hutton, Marney, Duff)

    A) Aguero + Siggy > YYT + Benteke
    B) Aguero + Siggy > YYT + Lukaku
    C) Aguero + Siggy > Silva + Benteke
    D) Aguero + Siggy > Silva + Lukaku
    E) Other!

I'm going Downing out, rather than Siggy. Siggy is more explosive, and Downing is only really good for assists and has tougher games. Take out Siggy unless you have Bony, but keep if not, I would suggest.

    i'm going with a 4-4-2 this GW.

    Forster

    Azpil - Davies - Clyne - Wisdom

    Hazard - Sanchez - Eriksen - Sigurdsson

    Rooney - Costa

    Bench:
    Guzan---Boyd - Moore - Austin

Need some help guys. Still not sure on my transfers.

    Forster
    Baines azpi wisdom
    Sanchez siggy hazard Downing
    Austin aguero Costa

    Myhill Boyd dummet Hutton

Thinking of doing Boyd and aguero >> silva and dzeko and changing it to a 3-5-2 formation.

    Yay or nay??
    Or any better ideas?

Very similar team to mine (above). 1 FT or 2? I don't think getting rid of Boyd is imperative.

I'd do Aguero > Dzeko or Rooney/RVP if 1 FT.

I'd almost rather have Yaya than Silva and I'm not a fan of Downing, although many are on here. Great team overall.

This would be for a minus 4 these 2 transfers.

I was thinking Downing to silva but it looks a really tasty midfield taking Boyd out.

And only reason not getting yaya is because of his yellow cards

Thanks for reply and nice team also

Has there been much talk on here that Drogba might start ahead of Costa on Saturday?

I actually already transferred in Costa and want to captain him, but have a nagging doubt he may not start which is making me lean towards Hazard.

My second FT i used to bring in Coleman for Cahill (I needed to get rid of a Chelsea player to get Costa) so I've doubled up on Coleman and Baines at home to QPR - madness or genius?!

I spent a couple of days seriously considering getting Coleman alongside Baines but in looking at their fixtures and their defensive history this year I decided it was too much of a risk. After the QPR game they don't have the best fixtures from a CS point of view and many away games. I am still not much closer to deciding who to bring in for Chambers though...but good luck it could work out if Coleman can grab a goal in the next handful of games.

I think the Drogba starting thing is enough of a worry to captain Hazard, yes.
Costa in poor FPL form. Hazard getting great home scores plus penalties too.

Cheers buddy! Have had so much luck over the last few weeks: in the last three weeks I've had goals from Hutton, Boyd and Clichy. That kind of luck can't last, surely!

It's done me well though, have won two bottles of champagne for consecutive manager of the month awards at work!

Not lucky at all! Hutton and Boyd were solid, cheap picks and getting Clichy in when Kolorov got injured was shrewd too.

True, they were all decent picks, but with the power of hindsight they look like a stroke of genius! It's always nice when a sensible/logical transfer ends up paying off spectacularly, and that's where luck comes in I guess...

I am a doubler and patience is key with Baines/Coleman: gws 8-11 were great, but 12-15 have been rough -- am going to try to hold on through the Xmas fixtures and then re-evaluate them in January.

yeah I was on double Chelsea defence, now double Everton - cant wait for MNF next week - could be really explosive with Coleman and Baines up against an Austin-less QPR..

  26. Mak_Gold

      Pantilimon;
      Baines, Clyne, Wisdom;
      Hazard, Sanchez, Downing, Sigurdsson, Boyd;
      Diego Costa, Rooney.

Subs: Krul*, N. Taylor, Austin*, Chambers*.

0 FTs, £3.2m in the bank.

Should I take a hit for Chambers -> ____ (Can afford any defender in the game)? And play him ahead of Boyd? Or am I good to go?

Oh yeah my bad missed that. I`d just go Dzeko/Yaya then. If you wanna spread it a little you could go with Benteke instead of Dzeko. More nailed on, pens, the "only" threat of his team. Cons? City will probably score atleast twice as many goals as Villa from now until the end of the year. Could also do something funky like Eriksen and Costa.
