The Weekend Team News

Aaron Ramsey is sidelined with a hamstring injury for Arsenal. Ron Vlaar could return for Villa’s derby clash with the Baggies. Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel has been ruled out with a broken foot, Toby Alderweireld is back for Southampton’s trip to Burnley, whilst Steven Fletcher is back in contention as Sunderland entertain West Ham.

Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny have been ruled out of Arsenal’s home clash with Newcastle. Mathieu Flamini has shrugged off a midweek calf complaint, though Calum Chambers is set to serve a one-match suspension for the Gunners.

Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph will be assessed after returning to training ahead of Villa’s derby clash with West Brom. Ashley Westwood is ruled out for a month with a knee injury, whilst Tom Cleverley remains doubtful after picking up a foot injury last weekend.

Michael Duff remains a doubt with a calf complaint for Burnley, whilst Matt Taylor is “weeks away” from returning. Sam Vokes is still not ready for a first-team outing, though stepped up his recovery with a 90-minute run-out for the reserves in midweek.

Kasper Schmeichel is sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a broken metatarsal in training. Leonardo Ulloa has recovered from the knock that forced him off last weekend, whilst Dean Hammond is also back in contention after recent injury.

Jak Alnwick is set for an extended period between the sticks for Newcastle after Rob Elliot joined Tim Krul on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Alan Pardew has admitted “We are pretty much where we were for Chelsea in terms of injuries,” though Davide Santon and Rolando Aarons have stepped up their recovery from injury.

Toby Alderweireld is back in Southampton’s squad after recovering quickly from a hamstring injury. Morgan Schneiderlin is a major doubt but will travel with the squad, whilst James Ward Prowse is also included for the trip to Burnley.

Marc Muniesa is a “big doubt” for Stoke’s trip to Palace. Potters boss Mark Hughes is optimistic that Jon Walters will overcome a knee knock in time to feature.

Steven Fletcher is ”fully fit” for Sunderland’s home encounter with West Ham, Gus Poyet has confirmed. Billy Jones and Emmanuele Giaccherini have trained but the weekend will come too soon for the pair.

Chris Brunt remains sidelined for West Brom’s clash with Villa due to a hamstring problem. Stephane Sessegnon has recovered from a calf complaint, whilst Alan Irvine has also revealed Youssouf Mulumbu has shrugged off an ankle problem for the derby.

Mark Noble is still unavailable for the Hammers due to an Achilles injury. Sam Allardyce confirmed “other than that, we don’t seem to have too many problems” – a sign that Carl Jenkinson has overcome the hamstring problem that forced him off last weekend.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Chambers to Zabaleta
Gilks to Pantilimon (Fab is other keeper)

Absolutely, there's a thin line between madness and genius in this game... plenty of good managers will be having a 'mare this season because of bad luck or whatever.

To answer the original question, it depends a bit on your bench, but assuming you don't have decent playing cover then I can't see those three moves not paying off.

Thanks. I've got 5 red flags following 3 sendings off, 5th yellow for Fab and Aguero injury last week so need some repair work.

            Current team:
            Fabianski (Red flag) - Gilks
Dummet - Azpil - Baines - Wisdom - Chambers (RF)
Fab (RF) - Sanchez - Siggy - Downing - Boyd
Costa - Austin (RF) - Aguero (RF)

Zab will probably get rotated over the festive period. Dzeko will share time/position with jovetic. I think bony or benteke would be better striker options. If you want city then yaya or silva are best options right now.

Thanks. Pretty happy with my mids so going to leave Yaya for now (though agree he's probably the best City cover).

Not sold on Benteke. Like Bony but worried about Siggy and tripple Swans with Fabianski too.

I want to get yaya in, the question is for whom. which one of the following moves do you guys think is better?

    A. chambers + marney >> hutton + yaya

this move will leave me with a midfield of yaya, hazard, sanchez, downing, siggy.

    or

    B. chambers + siggy >> azpi + yaya

this move will give me security in the back with chelsea cleanies. They have favorable festive fixtures and I feel like azpi could outscore siggy.

    Ta.

other option is sell downing. He is in good form and now has carroll to aim at. I would rather sell siggy who seems to perform only at home. Last time he produced away was first game at united. Till New Years siggy has 3 away and 2 home, one of them being spurs. Also keep in mind he hasnt produced a couple home games too.

    Oberton > Downing
    Dummett > Clichy

Any reason either won't start? Does Clichy get rotated?

Clichy and Kolorav share minutes pretty evenly when fit. Can't get Zab?

Got Fabianski suspended this week and no backup. Worth swaping Gilks for Pantilimon for -4 to enusre I have a keeped this week and options moving forward?

If you can't afford Fab>Hart then that's a great move. I'm torn between pants and hart, but going to find a resolution swiftly now. Please vote below 🙂

Feck it, putting this to a vote and letting the pundits here decide. First to 10 wins

    A) Fabianski>Hart (to play every game)
    B) Elliot>Panti (to rotate with Fab)

No double-ups in defense either way, 2.0itb, 1FT.

I'm pretty much in the same boat - see post above. I'm considering B. Possibly even for a hit. You think either are worth it for a hit or leave along till Fab comes back next week?

        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Well your hit is only worth -2 effectively, and both Panti and Hart have better fixtures than Fab. Can't go wrong either way

      B)

Hart limits you to only 2 other City players and with their fixtures you may want to stock up.

I'd only want Yaya+Aguero/Dzeko tbh, not keen on Zab due to rotation risk, but point taken
