The Weekend Team News

Arsene Wenger rules out Mathieu Debuchy for three months. Kieran Trippier is expected to shake off a hamstring problem for Burnley. Erik Pieters remains a doubt for Stoke, James McArthur has been passed fit for Palace, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to return for Liverpool this weekend.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Mikel Arteta will also be out of action for three months, having successfully undergone ankle surgery. Elsewhere, Wenger has ruled out Danny Welbeck for the Etihad clash, while Kieran Gibbs will be monitored after returning to training later today.

Kieran Tripper was withdrawn with a tight hamstring in Wednesday evening’s cup tie against Spurs Sean Dyche alleviated any concerns by suggesting that the defender should be fit for the weekend. The Clarets are hopeful on club captain Jason Shackell, who missed the cup defeat to Spurs with a calf complaint.

Nigel Pearson could again be without Esteban Cambiasso for the visit of Stoke, with the midfielder yet to fully train following injury. Danny Drinkwater is in contention for the weekend, while Pearson has suggested that fellow midfielder Dean Hammond is a “unlikely to be available” for the Potters clash. The Foxes boss is also hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow new signing Andrej Kramaric to figure at the weekend.

Gaston Ramirez and Sone Aluko are both set to train today ahead of Hull’s trip to Upton Park. Steve Bruce is set for a reshuffle up front, though, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both ruled out for up to six weeks.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is available for selection once again, following the youngster’s short mid-season break. Rodgers has also gone on to reveal that Adam Lallana is ahead of schedule on his comeback from a thigh problem and will be monitored along with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. Daniel Sturridge though, remains sidelined for the Aston Villa trip.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Steven Nzonzi will be fit to face Leicester, though the Potters boss is sweating on the fitness of Erik Pieters, after the pair were withdrawn at the break in the loss to Arsenal. Furthermore, Victor Moses returned to the squad against the Gunners after recovering from injury, and Hughes has suggested that the winger now “looks sharp and is ready to go.”

Joe Cole could be set to miss the meeting with ex-club Liverpool at the weekend, after picking up a hamstring injury at Leicester. In more positive news, Nathan Baker is expected to return to the squad after injury, with Villa also welcoming back Fabian Delph from suspension.

Ahead of Palace’s trip to Burnley, Alan Pardew has revealed that James McArthur has recovered from the foot problem that forced him off in the win over Spurs last week.

Winston Reid and Guy Demel have both returned to light training and “have a chance” of making Sunday’s home clash with Hull, according to Sam Allardyce earlier this morning.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Depends how risky you feel. Obviously virtually the entire game will have a Soton defender this week, but I'm not sure Newcastle are as toothless as those owners would like....not after how they played against Chelsea.

To be fair I think Costa might go on a bit of a spree, he seems fit again now and has been getting good chances. Also think JWP could give a really decent return while in the side. I do admit it's a big gamble though

You reckon Jones is nailed on when fit?
LVG seems to love rotating his defenders and I'm afraid Jones will be randomly benched once Rojo returns.

Are either of Moreno or Sakho nailed on in the Liverpool team?

        1. Doolittle

That was my concern, but people here assured me he's nailed on. I'm comfortable with Wisdom or PVA coming off the bench if he doesn't play. I don't think either of the Liverpool lads are completely nailed on, and I wouldn't want a Liverpool defender regardless.

Right I have whittled down my captain choices to Kane or Haz.

    For Kane:
Spurs have scored 9 goals in their past 2 home games
Kane has scored 6 and assisted 3 in his past 6 games
Played a part in 3/4 of spurs' goals during those 6 games

    Against Kane:
Sunderland have kept 4 clean sheets in their past 5 away games

    For Hazard:
Swansea have not recorded a clean sheet against any of the top 10 sides this season
Scored 2 goals in Chelsea's last 2 away games

    Against Hazard:
Has scored 3 goals and assisted 3 in his past 6 games (Kane has better form)
Played a part in 1/2 of Chelsea's goals during those 6 games (Kane more involved in team goals)

Surely those underlying stats point to Kane as captain right?

Everyone's saying Skrtel over Moreno, checking the stats for the past few games though Moreno seems far and away the better pick. Over the past 2 games Moreno has had 5 goal attempts in the box to Skrtel's 0. Moreno has also created 5 chances to Skrtel's 0. Moreno as a wingback seems a very good option.

Anyone care to shed some light onto why Skrtel is the better pick?

I watched Moreno vs Sunderland though and he was very advanced. Skrtel's scored 1 goal this season vs an Arsenal that can't defend set pieces to save their lives. Moreno's always in and around the box having pops at goal.

    Maloney kills Foxes deal

    Football
    Posted at 10:26
Transfer alert! Or rather that should be 'lack of transfer alert'.
Wigan midfielder Shaun Maloney's proposed move from the bottom end of the Championship to the bottom end of the Premier League with Leicester City is OFF.
The Scotland international, 31, has failed to agree personal terms with the Foxes after the two clubs had agreed a fee.
"Shaun went to talk personal terms and those talks have broken down," says Latics boss Malky Mackay.
"He is back as my player again, I have spoken to him this morning and he is here until July unless something changes."

    Disappointing, he was FPL gold.

Hi everybody, I've been lurking round these parts for ages now, and have really enjoyed (and benefited) from using FFS and the forum. Great site. I've now bitten the bullet and become a member, so, with a little trepidation, would you kind gents be willing to RMT/offer advice?

    Panti/Adrian
    Zaba/Hutton/Terry/Debuchy (inj)/Davies
    Sanchez/Hazard/Downing/Boyd/Montero (inj)
    Kane (c)/Austin/Giroud

    Both wildcards available, ITB: 7.5m

My current thinking is that I will save my FT this week so that I can make two transfers for the next GM, and then play my WC in GM 24. My main reservation is that I'm missing out on the Aguero bandwagon and all the while his price is rising. Obviously I'd bring him in when I play my WC. Montero's presence in my squad is depressing me somewhat, but I can give him the boot when I play my WC, or perhaps sooner. Anyway, let me break this down. Do I:

    A) Keep my FT for this week.
    B) If not, who would you suggest bringing in this GW?
    C) Kane as captain my best option here?
    D) Any other suggestions/observations about my team would be gratefully received. 🙂

Get rid of Debuchy. Might aswell use the transfer if you have so much in the bank.

I've already taken a 4 pointer to do Zabaleta & Benteke -> Bertrand & Aguero (regrettably).

Should I play my WC and make a couple of minor changes such as: Gilks -> Foster, Siggy -> Chadli.

Made this WC team 5-6 days ago and it hasn't changed since, looks like I'm locked in.

    Panti
    Terry - Clyne - PVA
    Hazard - Sanchez - ADM - Siggy
    Costa - Kun - Kane

    Hamer -- Albrighton - Baird - Wasi

    Captain?

You've made the right decisions, imo. I have the same front 7 except I've gone for Puncheon over Siggy. It means I can have a strong set team but take the odd punt with my 4th mid. My 5th mid is Ward-Prowse who is great value.
