Injuries

The Treatment Table – FA Cup Fourth Round

With rest and rotation rife, the number of new injuries has been fairly minimal over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures so far:

Aston Villa
Leandro Bacuna was subbed off due to injury on 88 minutes as Paul Lambert’s side got the better of Bournemouth yesterday. The Villa boss revealed Fabian Delph missed out through injury but is optimistic the midfielder – along with Gabby Agbonlahor – will be fit for next Sunday’s trip to Arsenal:

Fabian pulled up yesterday. He had a little bit of an achilles problem. Gabby was the same with his hamstring. Hopefully those two will be back next week.”

Chelsea
Andre Schurrle was omitted from the Blues squad to face Bradford with a back problem, Jose Mourinho has confirmed. John Obi Mikel was subbed off midway through the second period after sustaining a head knock.

Leicester
Liam Moore lasted just 25 minutes of Saturday’s cup win at Spurs before being withdrawn with an ankle injury, according to the club’s official website.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson rolled out an update earlier this afternoon:

“It’s an ankle problem. We’ll see [how long he’s out for]. It was a bit unfortunate for him. I think he did it in a block that he made initially and Liam is disappointed too because he gave away the penalty. He has had to be patient for his chance to get back into the side, and I feel for him that he wasn’t able to get a full performance in.”

Man City
Eliaquim Mangala missed City’s shock home loss to Middlesbrough due to a groin problem, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

Man United
Chris Smalling missed Friday evening’s goalless draw against Cambridge after picking up a knock in training.

Southampton
Shane Long could be set for a stint on the sidelines for the Saints. The forward lasted just 12 minutes as a substitute during Saturday’s loss to Palace before being forced off with a rib injury. After the match, Ronald Koeman admitted he fears the worst:

“I spoke to the doctor and he thought he will have fractured one or two ribs and that’s very painful. It’s a pity because we don’t have that number of players to go with all the injuries that we have. I don’t know (how long he will be out for). Normally three, four, five weeks.”

West Brom
Stephane Sessegnon was withdrawn on 67 minutes of the Baggies 2-1 win over Midlands neighbours Birmingham. The Benin international was the victim of a tough challenge from the hosts’ Paul Robinson and, unable to continue, was replaced by Chris Baird.

Boaz Myhill was handed a rare chance to impress between the posts by Tony Pulis at St Andrews but the keeper was forced off with an injured finger as his manager went on to say:

“He will need an X-ray to see if it’s dislocated. He will need some stitches.”

Weekend Suspensions

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s moment of madness towards the end of Swansea’s cup loss at Blackburn has proven costly. The playmaker is now set to miss the next three Gameweeks (sou, SUN, wba), with reports today confirming that Garry Monk won’t be appealing the decision.

The Swans are also without Kyle Bartley for their weekend trip to St Mary’s after he was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity at Ewood Park, whilst Sunderland’s Jack Rodwell will miss Saturday’s home clash with Burnley – the midfielder collected two yellow cards during the weekend goalless draw against Fulham.

No one thinks that Walcott will start?
Subbed with Giroud after 60mins and they were 3-1 than
I think its a good sign that they will line up like this

    ...........Giroud...........
    Sanchez..Santi..Walcott

Especially cause Walcott is fit longer than Ozil
After this game, with Welbeck fit I can see even Sanchez rested in easier games

If Arsenal were down to the bare bones, Wally would probably start. Wenger can afford to ease him in, given that Ox is playing well, and Ozil is back

        I agree
But only if Ox is ok
        Ox,Walcott,Ozil
Thats the order for this next game
Think that there is no way that Ozil will start

This is true. He said in his interview afterwards that he had nothing left in the tank. Its clear that he's not 100% and is still at the building up fitness stage. I think he'll most likely continue to be a sub for the next couple of games. If he does play I can't see him lasting much more than 60 minutes judging by his comments.

If he played 70 mins, and has a weeks rest, surely he can last more than 60mins?
I think he starts on the bench given what you've mentioned about the interview

Judging by the teamsheet and performance I think as it stands Caz is nailed on in the centre with Giroud up top, Sanchez on the wing and I think he'll look to get Ozil on the other wing. The three behind Giroud interchange anyway. Walcott will be a sub for the next game, or maybe the next after that and come on in place of Ozil most likely..or Giroud, with Sanchez moving up front. There is lots of scope for interchanging roles with the front players.

Oxlade Chamberlain will have to battle for either a sub role or a central midfield role.

That's true - though I think like someone said above, Chamberlain might start ahead of Ozil this weekend while Ozil build his fitness.

No matter what everyone thinks, it's what Arsene reckons that matters.

He loves Mesut Özil. In a week or two, I reckon he'll be nailed on along with Sanchez.

....yet he played him 90 mins. Says something.

Mesut is Wenger's lovechild. A bit like Torres was Abramovich's. He's forced to play him irrespective of how well/poor he plays.

I think he is a good player
But he is too slow and dont play defence enough
Guys on flank lose so much mor power with players like him in central position
This is why AW wants him on right flank,I think

Yup. His importance to Arsenal's attack is overlooked on here because it doesn't translate into fantasy points. Breakaways are like 3-5 seconds quick with him involved because he needs 1 touch to most players 2-3. His movement drags defenders apart and makes space for runners too. He's pretty much integral.

Well said. He also provides Arsenal with balance in terms of left footers and right footers. It does help that Santi is jack of all trades but is still a natural right footer.

In fact looking again, why not just sell downing and upgrade Punch or Elia. Weak midfield to have a budget Kane up front.

I like having downing as hes most likely to assist for west ham (plus im a fan)

did just do downing -> jwp
            elia -> Eriksen

could be worth it for spurs cover?

Foster in goal instead means i can do elia ->tadic

                bit better aye?

also ineed differential so oscar over fab/haz is where i want to pick up points

cheers for your advice, much appreciated.

ADM to Sterling would give you a bit more money to upgrade the defence, I'd stay clear of Utd players at the moment and I'm a Utd fan!

I really like it. Going with Giroud instead of Kane or other cheaply forces your hand to get a cheapies defence. But your defence, I like.

Thanks both. Not to keen on Kane anymore after seeing him playing behind Adebayor and Gru have really good fixtures coming.

Not sure what to do with Adm. Maybe Oscar,Cazorla,Sterling instead.

So the Ivory Coast AFROCON group stands at 8 games played, 8 draws, all 1-1!

Bony and Toure's Ivory Coast up vs Cameroon this Wednesday.

Yaya and Bony back this weekend then for Chelsea?

In fact, they have only played 4 matches, which all were 1-1 draws. There just happens to be two teams in each match, both getting the result in their record.
