Captain Sensible – Gameweek 24

Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

City’s home clash with Hull ensures Sergio Aguero is the runaway winner in this week’s Captain Poll. Despite failing to score in his last three league outings, the Argentine has been backed by a massive 67% of the voters so far as he squares up to a side that has lost four of their last five. Surprisingly, Aguero has drawn blanks in five of his seven home starts in the top-flight this term, though his 19-point haul against visitors Spurs in Gameweek 8 underlines his capabilities.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard takes second as the league leaders roll up to Villa Park. Despite failing to score for the third successive Gameweek, the wide man earned an assist and maximum bonus in Saturday’s draw with City – having netted in two of his last three road trips, he’ll fancy his chances against a dire Villa side with a single goal in eight Gameweeks.

David Silva is further back on 4% – he’s struck three times in the previous four at the Etihad, though has blanked in each of the last two in front of his own fans as the champions struggle for cohesiveness without Yaya Toure. With Alexis Sanchez ruled out for Arsenal, though, Fantasy interest in the City playmaker has stepped up over the last few hours.

In-form north London rivals Harry Kane and Santi Cazorla are also in consideration ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s derby at the Lane. Eight goals in as many league matches sums up Kane’s outstanding recent displays but he’s drawn a blank in two of the last three in front of his own fans – the one exception, of course, being the 18-point monster haul against Chelsea on New Year’s Day. Encouragingly for his growing band of new owners, Cazorla, like Kane, has been more consistent on his travels – the little Spaniard has delivered returns in five of his last six away appearances.

Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge leads a pack containing a number of Arsenal and Tottenham options. The Liverpool striker, along with team-mate Raheem Sterling and the likes of Christian Eriksen, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil, looks a real differential option as the Reds make their way to Goodison.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          No problem.

BTW, I suggest ADM, Cazorla/Ozil and Sterling. instead of Silva and Oscar.

so Dzeko linked with a move away to Juve and Jovetic left out of the CL squad, I'm curious why people are hesitant to think that Bony is nailed on as the second striker in Pelle's 442? is it more that we just don't want to assume and see it first?

Bony is better than both and has scored more than both. He holds the ball up better than bothz and can play in a 2 better than both.

I think he's going to make a deadly partner for Aguero..mazy little runs and causing havoc for defenders then a dinky lay off and Bony finish

Any thoughts on a double Chelsea punt of Remy & Zouma? I'm tinkering with my wildcard, currently have Defoe as my 3rd forward & Haz/Fab in mid so I'd lose Fab. Also not sure (like many others) what to do with Sanchez. I'd get rid of Remy in a couple of games.

No 19 year old reserve full back will ever be 'nailed on' so you have to be prepared for him to be rotated.

    Thoughts on this WC team?

    Panti, Krul
    Azpi, Clyne, Bellerin, PVA, Naughton
    Haz, Caz, Silva, Oscar, Sterling
    Aguero, Kane, Cisse

    Money itb for Sanchez

Nice. Sadly a NUFC fan put me off Cisse (Cabaye4). Thinks Cisse will likely play an impact sub role for time being.

Can swap to Ayoze and bank the cash? Probably wouldn't be playing except GW 27 anyway.

I like Ayoze as a player. But not so much in fantasy. Having said that he's your non playing sub! No Giroud might sting.

Yeah I would say so. Sakho could alternatively be a nice punt if you've mainly got GW27 in mind...

Not sure, guess I'll see how they perform. Silva is an option with sto, liv in 2 of his next 3 (after this GW) as is Oscar (blank).

    Foster, Panti
    PvA, Wisdom, Terry, Wasil, BERTRAND
    Hazard, ADM, Downing, SANCHEZ, Albrighton
    Giroud, Aguero, Kane

My transfer is either going to be:

    A) Downing ---> Sterling
    B) Bertrand ----> Fonte.

Which one? With Sanchez out my bench looks slim 🙁

A has the most upside but considering your bench I'd do B.

    Haz San Chadli Adm Boyd
    Giroud Kane Kun

    A) San(10.9), Chadli > Silva, Cazorla : 0 vote
    B) Adm, Chadli > Silva, Cazorla, Sanchez bench, play Boyd: 1 vote
    Thanks!!

Have no idea mind you I just know Ryan Nelson highly recommended him and this lad loves defending, as in seriously obsessed with it. Might go for someone else given the fixture.

Very happy that I own him. Feels like a punt with his low ownership but not as much a risk seeing as he's CAM for Chelsea.
