Team Analysis – Assessing Pardew’s Palace

The weekend cup defeat by in-form Liverpool may have paused Palace’s recent momentum but the narrow 2-1 reverse means Alan Pardew can now concentrate solely on Premier League matters. After producing three wins and a draw in five top-flight matches since their new manager rolled up to Selhurst Park last month, the Eagles now sit five points clear of the drop zone with 13 rounds of fixtures remaining.

Bearing in mind that Palace managed just three wins in their first 20 league outings prior to Pardew’s installation, it’s fair to say their form is very much on the up. With that in mind, we turn to the latest addition to our members section – the Team Profiles and Comparison Tool – to assess the impact of the former Newcastle boss as he looks to replicate Tony Pulis’ 2013/14 heroics and steer Palace to safety. These tools allow us to pinpoint any areas of improvement and/or issues of concern, in addition to highlighting the players who have benefitted most of all.

Is Kane & Eriksen enough Spurs coverage for DGW?

Yes, they've not been reliable for CSs of recent so a defender would cost you in the following weeks, IMHO.

Yeah. I might squeeze in a defender if you have a spare FT but not essential my any means

For sure if you don't want the hassle(or don't feel confident), taking a hit for a defender.
If you're keen on getting a defender, I'd get Rose for sure mate

Bottomed out but I demand answers for such an important question 😆

How do gents? Lord help me but Im looking at getting Haidara into my team. Likely nailed for GW27 at least?

Well look what the cat dragged in 😛

I think he's a good option for Gw27 only tbh, has a very tough run to follow and unsure whether he's worth the investment tbh.

Yeah serious tough run after that alright and before too lol. Just at 4.1 he offers serious wiggle room for me so that I can get Costa and Eriksen even if they rise in price and I really dont want to miss out on them. Added bonus of having a decent fixture the one week I'll need him

It's an interesting one ... if you didn't have Krul or want to double up he'd be a great option. Otherwise Bruce from Hull looks nailed on for now and they have a reasonable fixture (sto) for GW 27.

I'm also contemplating Haidara as a replacement for Baird to ensure a full XI for the blank week and doubling on Newcastle defense.

Quoting Zasa: "Silva whose appeal for FPL may be dented with less goal threat after Bony and YYT come back this w/e"

Surely the logic must apply to ARS? With Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsay, Wilshere, Giroud, Welbeck, Oxlade, Walcott, Cazorla, Arteta, Rossisky, Akpom. Minutes, BPS and goal threat will be shared.

For example. Great FA cup win. Ozil Walcott Cazorla et al blanked. Sanchez with a single assist for a 11.3m (not explosive).

ARS will score loads the next few GW. The player you choose may not.

Silva threat reduced by being pushed wide where as his pts run came from #10 position

Arsenal assets depend on rotation. I'm pretty confident Sanchez will continue to have high goal involvement when he on the pitch. One FA cup game is not a statistically robust sample size to draw conclusions from

Agreed but Walcott/Ozil had points in GW 25 while Giroud and Sanchez blanked. My point is that have more attacking players added to your squad may benefit the team but diminish your player.

I suspect with Bony, Aguero may be sharing goals and have fewer minutes too. If MCI is two goals up, Aguero will come off - no more 4 goal hauls.

I doubt Rose will start both DGW matches when they are so close together when they have Davies to step in.

I have to say, I'm actually kind of optimistic about their chances for CS in both of those matches (but then I may have had a pint too many tonight). Swansea are really kind of horrid on the road and QPR are QPR, regardless of where they are.

May fancy a short term double dip. Have Kane, can't really bring in Eriksen without breaking up my current midfield, which I'm not exactly keen to do. Guess it depends on whether or not Chelsea get a DGW which would make me want to hang on to both Fab and Haz.

I have all three of those as well as Lescott. Real brainbender.

Think Sunderland will concede and WBA have a better chance of cleanie with recent form.

So I'm leaning towards Foster & PVA. Even if Sunderland concede, there is still a chance of PVA attacking returns.

If I were you, I would play Foster, Lescott, Clyne, PVA.

Feel as if Stoke are rubbish at the back despite fixtures, so leave Wolly on the bench IMO. Villa are also reborn offensively under Sherwood, so Villa will probably score at home.

WBA likes to take long shots, so chances of getting save points is more than attacking returns(not predictable). If you can bench Van Aan, good, otherwise double up.

Yeah, we're in a world of mess this season. Quite disappointing. Obviously some regression expected after last year's overachievement, but wasn't quite expecting anything this ugly.

Some Europa hangover, coupled with Distin fossilizing, Stones not being ready to step in yet, and countless other little things, I guess.

It won't be GW28. It's only a little over 2 weeks away. The FA have a rule of 3 weeks notice til a fixture.

Rules made to be broken though? I'd guess if both teams wanted to do it then, then they would conveniently call it a guideline rather than a rule. Personally, I'm not holding my breath and fortunately, the price changes have been slow enough that they haven't forced my hand towards either of the contingency paths I've mapped out.

        1. Marknlard
          • 14 Years

That rule is due to a request from the police. They asked for more time to prepare for games so would be very unusual if it's broken.

Yeah, I'm sure they'd need the extra time if the new fixture was between squads with a heated history, but not sure that would come into play here. Again, not exactly holding my breath hoping for the DGW28, just wish they would make an announcement so that I can just move on.

Friday night games from 2016-17 onwards. What does this mean for FPL? Will it be like normal midweek games where the transfer deadline is after some of the team sheets are available?

Based on what happened with the Sanchez transfers last time round, it might make a lot more managers kneejerk.

You could be right, I don't know the details. My understanding was that they were intending to get football on as many different evenings as possible so I guessed it meant Friday and Monday.

If it is only one, that might mean a Saturday deadline normally, changing to Friday as necessary. That'll cause confusion.

I think it's more likely that we'll see Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon gameweeks. I doubt there will be many Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon gameweeks as that is just dragging it out too far.

The daily fail are saying around 10 Friday night games, so only once a month basically.

I'm not really a fan of Kompany, especially at that price. Can't exactly switch over to Ivanovic unless you have a load of money in bank, but you could consider switching to Zouma as long as you also used some of that savings to turn Baird into a reliable defender option who could come off bench if Zouma gets sat down.

      Hart

      fernandinho(fernando)-Yaya toure
      Nasri(Milner,Navas)-Silva
      Aguero-Bony(Dzeko,Jovetic)

for this gameweek I imagine Milner will start in a slightly deeper role, behind the striker instead of Bony (Milner has been great lately there), and then Bony will come on as sub, eventually you'd have to think he'd become a starter
