Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 29

With only a handful of sides involved in Premier League and FA Cup action since our last update, there’s been little movement among those players toeing the line on the Suspension Tightrope. It’s as you were at the summit, with Neil Taylor, Phil Bardsley, Cesc Fabregas, Ciaran Clark and Sebastian Larsson teetering just one booking away from a two-match suspension.

By virtue of Gabriel Agbonlahor’s caution in Aston Villa’s Fa Cup win over rivals West Brom, the Villains are now the most represented club in the eight-yellows-or-above bracket – a cause for concern for manager Tim Sherwood, who’s already contending with a raft of injuries and suspensions.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo picked up his fourth caution in seven starts against Newcastle, moving up to the eight-yellow mark. The Red Devils can ill afford to lose another member of their rearguard in the wake of Jonny Evans’ suspension, so the Argentine will have to stay out of trouble for four Gameweeks before the slate is wiped clean on 14 April.

In terms of newly-suspended players, Jack Grealish misses Villa’s Gameweek 29 encounter against Sunderland after he picked up two quick yellows as a late substitute against West Brom. Meanwhile, Baggies midfielder Claudio Yacob committed two bookable offences in the same match but was handed a two-game suspension due to it being his second red card of the season – the 27-year-old was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge.

Angel Di Maria earned a red card at a particularly inopportune moment, just before Manchester United embark on an unforgiving fun of fixtures (TOT, liv, AVL, MCI, che) that could define their fight for a Champions League berth. The Argentine winger will sit out United’s home tie against Tottenham on Saturday following the ignominy of being booked for simulation and aggressive behaviour towards referee Michael Oliver in the space of 20 seconds.

Jonny Evans began his six-match ban after being charged with spitting at Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse. United’s FA Cup exit against Arsenal on Monday means Evans will now be unavailable until the Gameweek 34 encounter with Everton. For his part in the incident, Cisse received a seven-match ban, with the additional penalty a product of receiving red for elbowing Everton’s Seamus Coleman in December. The Toon frontman will be back in contention for West Brom’s visit to St James’ Park in Gameweek 36.

Joey Barton serves the last of a three-match ban as QPR roll up to Palace this Saturday, whilst Alan Hutton sits out the second of a two-match suspension as Villa make their way to Sunderland.

Elsewhere, Gareth Barry and Lee Cattermole start the first of their two-match suspensions after topping off the Tightrope and Palace’s Mile Jedinak sits out the second of a four-match ban for violent conduct. Sunderland winger Adam Johnson remains suspended by the club pending the outcome of police investigations relating to off-field matters.

Amongst those returning players, Glenn Murray, Nemanja Matic, Jack Colback and Morgan Amalfitano are all back in contention for Gameweek 29, having served their time. Matic twisted his knee celebrating the Blues’ Capital One Cup triumph but recovered in time to face Paris Saint-German in the Champions League last 16 this evening.

I'm saving my FT this week. I also have no WC. Trying to plan for the DGW and blanks is giving me a headache.

I was thinking for gw 30 with 2 FT doing Austin to Costa and Kos to Alderweild. Getting rid of an Arsenal player though and not bringing in a DGW player?

Wollscheid could be injured, and I fancy PvA to hold his place from now on.

Besides, in GW31 I'll get rid of PvA for Naughton who has amazing fixtures

I like C actually, this reliant on the fact that Zouma is not an optimal Chelsea defender in the long run and especially taking into account him possibly being a liability for the DGW. Might just be a defensive trannie waiting to happen. Also, albeit Leicester are not the most defensively solid side, Schlupp is just a great and relatively risk free OoP 5th defender 'til the end of the season. (HUL, tot, WHM, wba,SWA, bur/CHE, NEW, SOT). Those are great attacking fixtures at least. What's the rest of your defense looking like?

Chelsea out puts more pressure on Mourinho to win the league and the players more time to rest/recover. The only competition they are in now.

Regarding rotation that is interesting. Is Cahill/Zouma going to be dropped? Mourinho will probably keep a consistent lineup unless injuries occur now.

        Point taken and agreed.

Yep, it is interesting to see who will play more in the PL now. But Imo Kurt will always be back up to Matic in the CDM position, but otoh Cahill's position is very much unclear - Kurt will always be lurking.

Ooof, that is tough one Champ. I guess when you put it to context, the moves do make sense. Could turn out great if Silva''s fall from grace starts this week. Silva's ownership in the top1k is risky to play with though, albeit Siggy does have great fixtures like you said and it does improve your defense tenfold.

Another shocking performance from the refs

Chelsea got dominated by a 10-man PSG for over 90mins. Zlatan got sent off for a challenge on Oscar who made the most of it eventhough he was arguably the aggressor with cleats up. PSG came back twice to seal it. Cahill scored off a Costa whiff turned assist and a Haz PK in OT.
Luiz and Thiago Silva goals off corner kicks.

Bayern thrashed Shakhtar 7-0 after ref awarded them with a PK and sent off a Shakhtar defender after 2 mins.

How do you rate my team for the upcoming weekend? Have been rotating a "punty" mid and used my FT for Mane > Puncheon to free up funds for Zouma > Terry/Ivan.

    Foster - (Pants)
    PvA - Zouma - Kos - (Wolls) - (Clyne)
    Puncheon - Hazard - Ozil - Eriksen
    Rooney - Aguero (C) - Kane

Have enough money and may bring in Costa for next week, although I feel I should focus on getting nailed on DGW players (both games).

Any thoughts on what to do going forward? 1.3 ITB

    Morning deadzoners!

On my WC, finally, after a disastrous last 3 GWs. Thoughts on this WC team for my 102,8 TV ?

    Panti/Krul
Rotates OK, and dirt cheap. Panti probably DGW34.

    Terry, Ivan, Schlupp, Alderweireld, Yun
Schlupp/Alderweireld rotates perfectly. Yun prob dgw34. So does Terry, Ivan and Schlupp.

    Hazard, Sanchez, Eriksen, Puncheon, James(LEI)
Hazard, Sanchez, James dgw 34. Puncheon is a one week punt, have money ITB for swapping to Mane next GW. Eriksen the one im the least excited about but I guess he is ok until gw34, when he should be swapped for a dgw player (caz/sterling/coutinho).

    Aguero, Kane, Kramaric
First two picks them selves. Kramaric dgw 34, outstanding fixtures, but a bit unsure on his gametime. RMT rates him really well though.

So in essence 3 Chelsea, 3 Leicester, and 3 blank gw 33/dgw34 players. With two transfer heading into gw 34 ill have 11 DGW players without hits for gw 34. And onyl sanchez the big money player stuck on the bench for gw33 as Im mostly loading up on the cheap DGWers, and intending to get two bigger hitters on the frees.

I guess tripling on Leicester players is a cause for concern for the run in, but they got outstanding fixtures+ an extra fixture, and I see so much value in both Schlupp and Kramaric. Matty james is more of a budget george boyd(4,4m) which will be warming my bench, And he is taking some corners.

        Or post blank, pre dgw?

Id have gone into the blank with a safe squad of players and a sure to play 11+ players
Then WC to a full 11 dgwers plus 4 others

Ditch one of the 2 attacking leicester. Neither are good enough for a regular start. By the time you get to 33 you will already be more than the 4 pts it would cost to bring one in

Bit of a waste of WC. Why get all this canon fodder for next few weeks?
Coulve just waited till after 33 then got them.
This way you have kramaric, james, puncheon for 2/3 places and also schlup and yun for several weeks

3 LEI 😯 - Not sure if they will bring you points despite the DGW. Schlupp and Mahrez I can understand but not James and Kramaric. You need nailed on players, and I'd prefer a certain Austin, Ings or even Bera for your 3rd striker spot. And Yun 😯 Don;t be blinded by the DGW - he may play 180 minutes but I can hardly see him contributing more than 3 points.

One more thing, don;t plan a transfer straight away after a WC. Anything can happen to your team and next tyhing you know, you want or need to use the FT on another spot.

Looking at likely blank / dgw scenario it makes more sense to go into 33 with 10 (or even 9) and have the extra dgw player ready for the following week than it does to use a transfer getting a player in for 33 and another to get them out for a dgw player the following week.

Same number of games overall but no transfers as opposed to 2.

The transfer would be better spent getting a 33 / 34dgw gk combination.

    Do you agree?

No such thing as a 2 pt hit. Apart from Chelsea and Leicester they all have 2 games over GW33 and 34 assuming that the bulk of the DGW is GW34. And on top of that you don't n ex to focus on spending transfers on just GW33 players at the exp use of other strong options

Well assuming the difference is having a player having a blank or someone getting 2 appearance points. You do get a 2 point hit plus the player has potential of getting more points than this. Of course the player needs the added potential to make it worthwhile

I agree it is about the right players. Taking a hit in order to field a player with potential (not usually just for 1 week) is completely different to just filling a spot with a likely 2 pointer

If a player has a blank in GW33 and is on fire now getting loads of points. I won't avoid getting him in knowing that he can make up for the blank in The DGW anyway. That's where I'm coming from

No I wouldn't do that either. As I say it is about getting the maximum over the 2 weeks but I wouldn't discount a hit or two to achieve it

As an example you take a hit to do Sanchez to silva and then another hit to do silva to Sanchez. Both hits only 2 pts? It's actually an 8 pt hit to have silva for one fixture.

I assume you don not have a WC anymore, so that's a sound plan.

For WC holders like me, I think 3 CHE + 2 FTS for GW33 is good enough plan, and use WC in DGW34. Just have to make sure we don;t lose value on certain players if we are to get rid pre DGW and bring back for the crucial DGW34.

      1. Amateur Pundit Zan
        • 11 Years

WC holders don't need much of a plan. Get as good a team as possible up to 33, ensuring you have 11 for no hits in 33.

        Then WC

Agree. What we need to plan is WHO to bench in GW33. I think most will go with Panti and 3 ARS players. Especially if ARS are gonna have their DGW in 34. Some may bench Cout (depending on FAC result), I might sell Sterling beforehand.

      Agree Jan

Got a long plan that will obv fall apart to go into 33 with 10. Something like this

      Foster
PVA (no game) Terry Ivan Wollo Alder
      Boyd Siggy Hazard
      Aguero Kane

      Giroud Sanchez Coutino

With 2fts the next week Siggy to Hendo and Kane to Austin

As has been discussed here the wc holders have a great advantage for 33. 34 is quite do-able for us non-wc holders

Ask those who benched him against CHE, how they felt. Luckily I haven't jumped on the wagon yet at the time or else i would've benched him too. You are talking about ditching him ffs. Unless he's injured and looking like losing any form (which I doubt) I'd say hold.

Max chelsea, a gk combo and as many leicester as you can stand without it trashing your team.

All other club players balance out across the 2 weeks, assuming all doubles in wk34

Otherwise stay just as focused on getting points in all the weeks leading up to it and coming out of it.

    Shame for John Terry tonight.
After his slip on CL final penalty.
Then he missed final when they won it.
Got to semi last year only to lose at home to Atletico.
Must feel like this was his last chance to properly win it.
And what with Jose at the helm and additions of Fabs, Costa, Curtois etc.
Must've felt they had a proper chance this year
And with that away goal and being at home
And with being against 10 men too
    Shame for big JT
The poor guy had to miss the World Cup out of principle
And with having been torn apart in 2010 and never winning at international level
This must've been like the biggest thing for him to win and do it on the field hopefully
Such a shame that such a top geezer has to see defeat at the Bridge eh?

FA were wwrong to strip terry of armband after an actual court found him not guilty. They basically put their own panel above the courts doing that.

But its true. Terry got far worse media cover than Giggs the saint.
