The ScoutCast – Episode 153 – March

Simon March, aka Dufflinks, has been hanging around these pages since August 2011. A veteran of six Fantasy Premier League seasons, this campaign started more casual than ever, with Simon resigned to snatching the occasional live match from the other side of the world.

Against the odds, by Boxing Day he was fourth in the world. Six weeks ago, he reached the summit. As you read this, Simon sits on top of the FPL world by 30 points with his Wildcard still tucked away in his pocket and the whole Fantasy Football Scout community behind him. No pressure.

With Granville absent with a hangover from a mid-life stag do and another United disappointment, this week’s ScoutCast is dedicated to Simon’s story, as he wakes in the early hours to join Jonty and myself for a special edition.

We overcome countless gremlins to discuss how Simon gets by on rations of four live matches a season, how he can recall every point hit he’s ever taken and how one lucky cat may just hold the secret to his success over the remaining ten Gameweeks.

We end this episode with a shout-out to community legend, Doosra – get well soon Doos.

We’ve included a fully edited version of the ScoutCast on iTunes and via this link or the player below.

If you want to see Simon, myself, Jonty and the lucky cat in person, you can view the full un-edited Hangout movie below. Be warned – it really is a “warts and all” production.

Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel if you want to get an alert for next week’s Hangout and future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You'll need Ivanovic for the DGW. He's been immense for me. I got him at 7.3 and have enjoyed all of his goals 🙂 captaincy option this week too. Sot attack has been Mané alone.

Get foster and PVA in to reduce your triple exposure to soton at Chelsea. You'd be lucky to get 3 pts across the 3 of them.

In most cases not being able to fathom that Mata is a much better and effective player than Fellaini amongst other strange decisions by LvG would be a sackable offence. I have no idea whether Fellaini will play or not. He's in my draft h2h side and I'm also wondering whether to play him in light of injuries and uncertainty of starters.

I'm holding on Eriksen...for now. His upcoming fixtures are good and his underlying stats suggest good things are coming. But swapping Silva for Sanchez before Arsenal's Stoke match has burned me badly, so I might not be the best one to answer 🙂

Keep Austin as I assume you have an Arsenal midfielder? ie Sanchez. Clichy to Moreno is good but necessarily an immediate transfer. Overall, I'd say keep the ft and make that Moreno move next week.

I know it sounds like point chasing, but at 4.3m and with their fixtures, is Bentaleb a budget 4/5th mid option?

Madness? Could use cash ahead of bringing in Ivano in soon..

I think there are better options in that range such as Mahrez and Boyd. Even if they play for weaker sides.

Eriksen to Bentaleb; you could go 4-3-3, kick Wisdom to the curb for Ivan. Different approach - not crazy at all. Though as Fortune suggests, you could actually afford Mahrez in this scenario for his GW34 double (I think - you do the math).

Aguero if you're playing it safe. Sanchez for a punt I reckon. Tough choice. Hazard was a beast last week but after champions league and the fact that SOuthampton are fairly solid kind of swings it in Sanchezs favour.

There will always be a risk going against the main captaincy option but I think Sanchez should do well. He looked sharp the last day and West Hams defense looks frail at the minute, esp with TOmkins now ruled out too apparently

ya his lack of explosiveness does slow me down a bit but his consistency is only matched by kane and hazard, just makes me ponder.. i do expect aguero to take hold of the golden boot very soon though

haha just looked now 😛 don't judge but i've never had sanchez to this point even though i love him as a player (was planning on getting walcott in when it looked like he was back, then he got injured again etc etc).. would i captain him if i had him right now? he would definitely be a strong contender but i'd still feel more secure with giroud and possibly ozil given his last 3 home games..

Quiet again here so thought I'd come back with a recipe of my own. Didnt get the chance to try out some of the great recipes posted yesterday but make no mistake, I'll get on them soon.

    Here's a dish I adore.

Baked Salmon served on a cauliflower puree, side of wholewheat pasta and steamed asparagus. Define. Everything is is pretty straight forward so I'll just go through the cauliflower puree.

Melt a decent knob of butter in a pan and fry up an onion on low heat til it becomes translucent. Cut up and add a head of cauliflower and cook for a few minutes. Add some double cream (not quite healthy I know 😆 ) enough to cook the cauliflower in til it softens. When the cauliflower is softened, transfer to a blender and blend it til its the consistency you want.

Pretty simple. The only thing to watch out for is trying not to brown the onions or cauliflower when cooking.

Though the puree has butter and cream it makes up for the fact that you require no sauce with the meal as it does the job. Season the pasta with some Parmesan cheese and pepper and you're golden.

I've been starting each semester with a freezer stocked with irish stew and turkey chili that I make in huge batches before hand. Good way to always have something to grab if studying has taken precedence over being organized.

😆 Yeah well thats basically what Im doing. Diet gets a bad rap these days cos of stupid fads and people not eating. My diet is fairly simple. 5 smaller meals a day, cutting out the crap. I dont starve myself at all I eat quite a lot actually haha just all healthy stuff.

Im on a two month exercise programme so for that I decided to cut everything out - no fast food, sweets, beer etc. Just to see this through and do it proper. after that I 'll go back to the norm and as you say in moderation. NO point putting myself though all this effort only to immediately pile it all back on again lol

A gives me a defender off the bench if Wollo and PVA dont make it. Probably only a 1 -2 pointer and may not start

B Gives me time to see SOT line and Alderwield. Could end up with just Terry playing as Haidria, Wollo and PVA doubts with Hutton out.
