Scout Picks

Scout Picks – Gameweek 31

This evening we move onto Gameweek 31 of this season’s Scout Picks, where Mark, Jonty, a different member of the community and I pick an XI for the upcoming round of fixtures. Each week, our line-ups go head-to-head and over the course of the season we’ll be keeping a tally of the points as we go along, with the budget now sitting at 84.0 apiece for our starting line-ups.

The Community – Managed by Saniul

gw31picks With Aston Villa visiting, I’ve opted for three Manchester United players, across the goalkeeper, midfield and attacking positions. For me this is the plum fixture of the week. Down in the capital, Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic picks himself as does a number of other form players, including Harry Kane and Eden Hazard. Chelsea and Tottenham are up against two leaky defences in Stoke and Burnley respectively and I anticipate goals in those encounters.

For my budget options I’ve gone for West Brom’s Joleon Lescott and Swansea’s Kyle Naughton, who face two shot-shy teams on the road. My differentials this week are Saido Mane for Southampton and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, two creative midfielders who have strong potential to score this week.

Jonty

gw31picks I’ve opted for just two double Gameweek players this week. On paper Aston Villa and QPR’s chances of success are hardly awe-inspiring and I feel that only Christian Benteke and Charlie Austin offer the potential to perform well as Fantasy assets this week.

For my single Gameweek selections I’ve opted for Harry Kane to complete a cheap-as-chips attack. This frees up considerable cash for the rest of my squad, particularly in defence. In steps Branislav Ivanovic, who looks primed for points at both ends of the pitch when Stoke visit. Ashley Williams’ 15 bonus points make his 5.3m price tag worth splashing out on, while Everton’s Seamus Coleman looks to be in goal scoring mood, given his strike against QPR in Gameweek 30. He may be 6.8, but offers strong clean sheet potential this week against Southampton and an intriguing differential for those looking to climb their mini-league rankings.

With money to burn in midfield, I have no problem drafting in Eden Hazard, David Silva and a resurgent Juan Mata. Finally, Gylfi Sigurdsson completes my line up due to his set-piece threat. Only Leicester have a worse record at conceding set pieces away from home than Swansea’s visitors Hull.

Mark

gw31picks Unable to resist the lure of double Gameweek assets, I’ve opted for a trio in my line-up, pairing Charlie Austin and Christian Benteke in my three-man forward line alongside the ever-dependable Harry Kane.

I just feel that both Villa and QPR have to seek out points and therefore goals and both Austin and Benteke undoubtedly carry that burden for their respective sides. A goal apiece over the two matches looks on the cards and, of the two, I’m favouring Benteke as the most likely to exceed that.

Brad Guzan is my other selection from the Villa ranks – simply because I think he’ll draw saves aplenty at Old Trafford and has the potential to earn a shut-out at home to the R’s in midweek.

Elsewhere, Jeffrey Schlupp’s inclusion will raise a few smiles and eyebrows, no doubt. Schlupp is a minor doubt with fatigue following international exertions and the Foxes have the weakest defence on show in the league but Nigel Pearson’s recent change of formation has looked to addressed that. Schlupp’s role is less forward-thinking as a result but he still carries some menace and opponents West Ham have blanked in three of their last four away trips.

I’ve opted for Marouane Fellaini over Juan Mata for my United midfield cover. For me, the Belgian now looks integral to Louis van Gaal’s attacking ploys and I think he’ll be an effective weapon at home to Villa. Gylfi Sigurdsson earns a recall to my four-man engine room – I just see Swansea seeing off Hull City at the Liberty with Bafetimbi Gomis and Sigurdsson destined to be amongst the points. David Silva’s inclusion compensates for the absence of Sergio Aguero – I’m not totally comfortable with that but will go with it in order to favour my pair of double Gameweek assets.

Paul

gw31picks I’ve drafted in the double Gameweek spot-kick takers, Christian Benteke and Charlie Austin, along with the in-form Harry Kane to make up my front three.

Eden Hazard and David Silva are obvious options for Chelsea and City. Silva has 12 shots inside the box in the last four and faces a Palace side with a single shut-out under Alan Pardew, whilst Hazard’s three goals in the last six has kept him at the top of the FPL standings ahead of Stoke’s visit. Gylfi Sigurdsson earns a spot as Swansea welcome Hull to the Liberty and Scott Sinclair takes the final spot for Villa’s double Gameweek. Only three midfielders have registered more shots inside the box than Sinclair (seven) over their respective last four matches and with a pair of fixtures on his agenda, he’s worth a gamble at just 5.2.

In defence, Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry both comes in for Chelsea’s home clash with the Potters – I reckon the Blues will rediscover their resilience and keep out Mark Hughes’ side. I’ve turned to the stats to select Swansea’s Federico Fernandez, who has produced four attempts inside the box in as many matches and is owned by less than 1% of FPL managers ahead of a home clash with Hull. Furthermore, the Swans last two clean sheets have earned him five bonus points. Brad Guzan is handed the keeper slot for Villa’s double. Save points look guaranteed at Old Trafford, whilst I reckon Villa will turn over the R’s in midweek and therefore back him over Rob Green.

The Scores so Far

With a tally of 75 in Gameweek 30, Christina now leads the race for the highest community champion Gameweek score, after eclipsing Innsie’s score of 73. Among our Scouts, Jonty notched up 82 points, I scored 73 and Mark took the wooden spoon with 64. In the overall standings Jonty has taken the lead with 1567, Mark has 1549, I have 1537 and the community is on 1461.

Remember that, for this week, only the first match for Villa and QPR counts towards the final score for the Community challenge. This is to ensure all community champions have an equal shot at the top Gameweek score of the season prize of a £100 Amazon voucher. Nonetheless, the three Scouts have focussed our teams on the full 11 matches in order to ensure our overall site Scout Picks are mainly weighted towards the double.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 31

Here we go again folks! Welcome to this gameweek's Scout Picks Challenge!

    GW30 results: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/10019696
(Yes, I'm running with the gameweeks now!)

    ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

Gameweek winners will also be awarded a spot in the Community Roundup article.

    ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

    GK
    DEF DEF DEF
    MID MID MID MID
    FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Saturday 4th April, 11.30am.

    ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

    1st place: 3 points
    2nd place: 2 points
    3rd place 1 point

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. Essentially, if you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 3 scoring positions or not.

Welcome to the game, and good luck.

The spreadsheet used to calculate the scores and hold the rankings etc will be made publicly available at the following link:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyuz31n7ppeccuu/Scout%20Picks%20Challenge.xlsm?dl=0

Also note: Up-to-date results will be posted at the end of a gameweek when bonus points have been confirmed and added by FPL HQ. I may not be able to update results immediately due to work commitments, so please bear with me.

    anyone going for mata 🙄
think mata may go well vs villa, and also vs city where anything could happen.

thinking of selling sanchez. leaves me the cash to do giroud to costa leading up the DGW too.

will reload my arsenal arsenal after they play chelsea.

Gone Fellaini. Mata is a worry over gametime - I think LVG is looking for an excuse to drop him for Di Maria. It'll be hard to keep scoring week after week too.

he couldn't drop him vs villa, could he? i owned him back in jan WC time too, and he was dropped as soon as i bought him (couldn't afford ADM). was also burned my utd early in season when i loaded up for there plum early fixtures and they were useless. feel i'm owed

Not vs Villa, but if Mata doesn't perform well enough he'll be dropped after.

LVG: "I looked for balance and now I have found the position for him (Mata) that he plays very well. I was very pleased with his performance and then he scores 2 goals, marvellous goals I think."

            http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32010643

Sounds likely that if he continues to perform well he keeps his place. That's different because previously he was in and out of the team whether he performed well or not.

No-one. ADM stays on the bench and United continue playing 4-3-3. If LVG wanted to start ADM I think he'd be more likely to bench Young than Mata right now.

          like the arsenal arsenal...
i picked up benteke(admittedly to replace d'noye)-I wish him well for the DGW-he seems to be starting to click-he's a momentum player who seems to respond well to the new manager-villans views on him just now?

agree giroud to beast is way to go in a couple of GWs-I dont expect costa to play this w/e maureen is too clever to not get him a YC and a ban...

yeah benteke looks a decent single GW shout, playing well, has a spring in his step again. probably not worth holding on to over following few weeks though.

hadn't thought about the beast ban actually but i'm sure he could tone down his beastliness a tad to avoid one

Any Terry owners considering an expensive sideways switch for Ivan? Beating myself up about this I mean there's no question Ivan is the better FPL option but then Terry could still score in any game (and he's overdue) would it be a transfer wasted?

Thoughts on this team please? Have 2 FT and £1.4m ITB. Also have wildcard.

    Panti, Krul
    Bertrand, Rose, Bellerin, Zouma, PVA
    Hazard, Sanchez, Silva, Eriksen, Cork
    Aguero, Giroud, Kane

I'm thinking Sanchez and Zouma > Siggy and Ivan but i'm also tempted to wildcard and get the whole squad sorted. Thoughts/suggestions much appreciated.

I've only got 1 FT so doing Zouma to Ivan next week, just done Sanchez to Siggy. No need to WC

    Own Forster and Hamer.

    Suggestion.

    Swap Forster for another starter?

Or hang onto Forster and swap Hamer for a backup keeper who starts...

Why keep Forster who is out for a year? Swap to davies and save over a million quid

Not idiotic. But could pick up a goal or more vs QPR plus potential 4 points as captain vs UTD. Could easily go either way

    Need a bit of help:

    Silva, Hazard, Alexis, Eriksen, Philips
    Kane, Giroud, Aguero

    A. Who should I bench out of these likely lads - considering benching Eriksen or Alexis (doesn't feel right though)
    B. I have 2 free transfers - considering Giroud to Austin and saving the others.

I see a lot of people talking about Mata, but Fellaini is maybe the better of the United midfielders as he seems to play more centrally?

Mata is a little genius if he gets to play regularly.
