Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

    Is Eriksen,

Worth keeping for next week, even though they are up against Newcastle ?

Keeping in mind that Erik is probably up for a price fall tomorrow or sometime later in the week.

        Probably even Cambiasso.

Hi all, need a bit of a plan for the coming weeks I think, and a bit unsure of what to do.

    K.Davies (Guzan)
    Alderwiereld Ivanovic Dawson PVA Wolly
    Hazard Silva Mane Eriksen Boyd
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    I have 2.3m ITB and 1 FT.

Thinking of shipping Giroud out this week but want as many players as possible for the DGW without taking too many hits.

    I could do;

    GW33; Giroud & Dawson - Vardy & Azpi (-4)
    GW34; Eriksen & Kane - Sturridge & Coutinho (-4)

    Thoughts? Any more suggestions?

Courtois is just horrific value ad a waste of a Chlesea spot, IMHO. Why get a 5.9m keeper in when you have the likes of Ospina and Migs(less so) with a DGW and are cheaper? I just can't see the logic, plus I'd much rather splash on a Terry/Ivan double when taking into account their massive goal threat. Too much $ for a GK.

I had to remove Eriksen because my wildcard next week is tight on budget and I don't want to lose 0.1 when he drops. I was planning a midfielder out anyway but just not him. 😉

I was torn between Puncheon and Lennon, those were my ideas 10 days ago and nothing has happened in the meantime to change that. Bolasie would so much be chasing last week's points.

Anyway I have gone for Lennon and will probably captain him over Silva or Kane. Form is great, team form is improving, fixture is great. Could have had any midfielder in the game so I hope I picked the right one.

I will have a good team out for GW33 with no hits. So I think I can afford a captaincy punt. But honestly I am doing it because I fancy Lennon more than anyone else in my team, would have been Silva otherwise. I think City and Spurs may be gone to be honest.

              Here's my team next week:

              Myhill
              Alderweireld Terry Schlupp
              Lennon Fletcher Hazard Silva Mane
              Kane Rooney

Aguero scoring 2 today means nothing. City played 4-2-3-1 and Aguero's 2 goals were scored from exactly the positions he has been scoring from all season. And exactly the positions he hasn't been getting into when they play 4-2-2-2 which Pellegrini will almost certainly revert to next week.

I wrote an article a couple of weeks ago where I said that the Manchester derby would be a good game for Aguero for exactly this reason. I think reading a 'return to form' into it would be a big mistake. Aguero hasn't been in bad form. He's just been playing in a deeper position.

I didnt mean it so much as a return to form as in an indication/reminder of what he can do. City were pretty poor and Aguero still came out of it with a 12pt haul. You're probably right that they will revert back to the other formation alright.

if you just watch him play its been clear that's stopped him scoring is being a tad off with his finishing and unlucky.
you are right he hasn't been playing badly by any stretch. but he can score plenty playing as a 1 or a 2 up top.
also these goals are a big factor. strikers thrive on confidence. his has been eroding for weeks. until now

Exactly this, 4231 or 442 is irrelevant, a mere coincidence if anything. Aguero has always played well partnered, whether it be with Forlan, negredo, or Dzeko.

Fwiw, Aguero loves scoring in the Manchester derbies, think it was 6 in 7 (including the FA cup match).

Yeh...no hull or Leicester for me. Could be a waste considering o would have to get rid of say eriksen... or not play kane/aguero to fit them in. Definilty wouldn't allow 1 in my defence, that's just a liability esp since i have 2 chelsea, clyne, rose. 3 chelsea and 3 Liverpool will do me.

What with Koemans statemtn about being disappointed in Mane do we think he will be benched this weekend? Seems like something Koeman would do and facilitates rotation in his team.

Howard over Hart, definitely. City are shocking atm.

Can't decide on a midfielder myself. Yaya is the obvious choice but, again, City are shocking atm.

So let's help a potentially dying man out here.

    2FT
    5.9m ITB

I have to get a GK this week.

    Ospina
    Dawson Ivanovic Alderweireld
    Mané Silva Hazard Sigurdsson
    Remy Giroud Kane

    Subs: Forster Henderson Naughton Sakho

Forster -> Davis. Go into the DGW with 2FT's. I hope you can finish the season on a high, the DGW will be key.

Forster > Davis looks good. I'd probably do Giroud > Vardy too as I think Vardy (swa, bur, CHE) will outscore Giroud (CHE).

Ospina will cover you from gw35 onwards so I'd punt on Schmeichal - but Davis is the obvious shout. I'm tempted to say a Leicester defender for Naughton... 😕

Just the GK transfer and then you can ship Naughton and Sakho for DGWers next week.

Some light shed on what might be wrong Sturridge -

I'll read it in a minute but whats wrong with sturridge is that he he no confidence or chance to build some form having been constantly getting bad injuries for the last year. if he can get a good pre season in it will do him the world of good. if he can stay on the pitch after it that is

      1. Zasa
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Aye, that's true. he truly has looked sloppy on the ball. Yeah, I agree a good healthy pre-season to adapt to the new system will do him wonders. Really hope this light stretch of games Gw34 onward will inspire some little spark or brilliance form him, when he was just get backing from injury there were so many occasion where a fully fit normal Sturridge would have knocked a brace with ease.

What do you think about the 3421 Champ? Something to stick with for the next season? It's really brought out the best in both your defense and Coutinho more than anyone IMO.

one of the things I love about rodgers is his tactical flexibility. im sure that formation will figure a lot going forward and he'll sign with it in mind.

Rodgers is also flexible when talking:

One year ago, he said Man Utd will have problem signing Stars without UCL

One year later, Pool will have no problem signing Stars even without UCL

            LOL???!!!

Yes but need .7 to do Cazorla>Fabregas and have Pantilmon, Koscielny, Cazorla, and Giroud
          Options
Koscielny or Giroud to 5.2 defender or about 8.0 forward with blank and double game on GW33
          or
any to nonblank with better point potential
