FFS Paddy Power Cup XI and Members Cup V – Sixth Round Draw

This evening we roll out the sixth round draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup XI, as sponsored by Paddy Power, as well as the sixth round draw for the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup.

With Jonty’s (that’s me) defeat to The Flying Nugget there are no longer any former champions left in either the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI or the Members Cup V. My conqueror takes on johni00 in round six of the FFS Paddy Power Cup . Meanwhile there was better news for other FFScout team members. Mark eased past Bartowski to set up a round six tie with $D.K.$F.C, while Ryan beat Super-Hans and will face juniorkai next.

Jon Nurse was round five’s giant killer after seeing off 11th placed BegTets by just a one point margin. He will square up to half-turn volley in the next round.

The highest ranked surviving FFS Paddy Power Cup XI manager is 61st placed fuml_akimbo. I Just Did A Torres, who is ranked 96,583 has the unenviable task of taking him on in round six.

Other notable round six match ups include NeedleVor’s encounter with iceball and Corkyote’s tie with Eedee. The manager with the highest round four score was SIRARSELOT73, who wins £25 worth of free bets with Paddy Power.

In the Members Cup Needlevor was not so fortunate after losing out to Johni00, who is still in the running for winning both cups and takes on waltzingmatildas in round six.

Eye catching round six matches also include Billy Ketsu’s clash with Hasselbaink Forever and Tdubb05’s clash with Dr Rabotnicki. The Members Cup’s highest ranked remaining manager, 25th placed Everybody knows badgers love mashpotato, will takes on faux_C in round six.

The full sixth round draw for the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI can be found here. while the fifth round draw for the Members Scout Cup V can be found here.

Good luck to those involved in the weekend’s action. In the meantime, though, if you’re looking for more information on the Scout Cup schedule and prizes available, click this link for a more thorough rundown.

IS IT WORTH TAKING A HIT FOR A DGW PLAYER?

Obviously it is impossible to know whether a specific hit will pay off in a specific Gameweek, but we have enough data over the course of this season to say whether it is *expected* to pay off, using Points Per Appearance (PPA).

I will use a few common examples of players that people may be thinking of taking out / bringing in for a hit - you can obviously do the same for any combination you are thinking of. I have doubled the expected points for the DGW players and taken off 4 for the hit to arrive at their expected points.

    Out:
    Sanchez: PPA 6.2
    Silva: PPA 5.7

    In:
    Sterling (4.9 x 2) - 4 = 5.8
    Hendo (4.6 x 2) - 4 = 5.2

In reality, the DGW expected scores for the DGW players should be reduced slightly as there is a chance that then player ends up not playing the second game due to suspension, injury and rotation is a bit more likely with 2 games close together.

The other factor to consider is whether you might want the player transferred out back soon after - this *may* end up costing another hit if something happens to one of your other players.

The only move from the example above *expected* to break even is Silva > Sterling and that's only assuming nothing happens to Sterling to stop him playing both games.

The picture may be different if you are planning to captain the DGW player brought in of course.

Conclusion: a hit for a DGW player is probably not worth it if you are taking out a decent player to do so.

Fair point however you have the captain differential with Sterling. Also top sides tend to do better towards the last 10 run in. Also the average for the second match may be slightly higher if the player performed in the previous.

I said that the picture is different if you are captaining the player you bring in, although your expected score is reduced anyway if you don't captain Hazard of course.

Your second point could apply equally the other way round.

True that, but the average is more likely to increase than decrease - going on form and that top teams tend to do better in the last quarter.

It really is a toss up. Going to risk it myself.

I like this article, thank you.

However in the case of using Alexis as an example, I think the reality is that it will actually cost you -8

-4 to get rid and then another -4 to buy him back as you would undoubtably want him for the Arsenal DGW.

At this late stage, reality is that people that are chasing are (quite rightly so) willing to gamble to push themselves up the leagues. Nothing wrong with that. Personally though I will be playing it safe.

i see a few dilemmas.. like committing to 3 5 2 for the rest of the season.. and have you thought about what Arsenal players you#d like? I think i'd rather have three Arsenal players outfield.. and I don't think Clyne is necessary.

how much do you have in the bank? If you bring in a cheapie defender and goalie can you switch Kane to Giroud?

I'd prefer to keep Kane. Still see him scoring
I could downgrade clyne to Toby. Again, Southampton are still strong at the back

I'd like giroud, an arsenal mid and ospina

they have tough fixtures, especially the away ones and their away form has been poor. their season is all but over.

i don't think toby is clear yet after shoulder injury.. could still be a worry.

I am torn as well, and am currently waffling between C and VC on those two. I feel that Hazard is just the best player in the league and gets in on every Chelsea goal now, and also seems to be more of a striker with all of the Chelsea strikers hurt or hurting on the pitch. Sterling is not the greatest finisher, but he, too, is like a striker when Sturridge is not playing. Tough and important call!

It seems as Sterling will rise tonight, should I bring him in now or maybe hope that his price won't grow?

Does Jordan Ibe affect Moreno's game time?

Ibe plays on the right hand side, so the only one who is affected is Markovic

    On WC. A or B

    A) Courtois, Terry, Sanchez, Kosc
    B) Ivan, Terry, Ramsey, Bellerin

Yeah what I'm thinking but so many WC have Ivan and Terry when they can have courtois and Terry which frees funds

yeah but on WC so which would you choose whilst making up your team

        1. Andy1

Courtois is a goalkeeper, ivanovic a defender. That's not an even comparison

You need to tell me who the alternative keeper and defender would be to allow comparison

            Other GK and def

            Pants
            Schlupp, Moreno, PVA

              Option b. You'll have 6 defenders then.

More Clearer if you're still there. Both have kosc

                A) Courtois (Pants)
                Moreno, Terry, Schlupp, (PVA, Kosc)

                B) Migs (Pants)
                Ivan, Terry, Schlupp, (PVA, Kosc)

If I do A I can keep Sanchez. If I do B I swap for Ramsey.

Hey, quick thought on which you think is better, please:

    A)
    MIGS
    Terry Kos IVAN
    Sterling Hazard Silva CAMBIASSO
    Kun Kane Vardy

    B)
    SCHMEICHEL
    Terry Kos SKRTEL
    Sterling Hazard Silva FABREGAS
    Kun Kane Vardy

Both leave me with option of Vardy - Giroud next week.

    Thanks

What do you reckon to this?

    Pants
    Terry schlupp Baines
    Hazard sterling henderson silva
    Aguero kane remy

    Myhill Walters bellerin cissokho

Is Walters to cambiasso worth a hit? In case remy or silva don't play

    The sterling/ hazard debate.
    I am 58 behind leader (but he has a -12 this week whereas I have a -4).
    Who to captain??
    Schmeichal
    Ivan McShane Skrtel
    Hazard sterling hendo Bolasie
    Kun Kane Vardy

    Pants Mata Baines Fonte.
    A hazard
    B Sterling because I'm chasing.

Yes mate. But of planning though! Now done another -4 and brought in Terry for Fonte! I got seriously burned by Benteke last time so made sure it wasn't happening again!

ML rival has activated his WC. I'm currently 9pts ahead but already did -4 hit, is it worth -8 hit to do Fonte or Berty to Moreno which leaves me 1pt ahead going into the DGW?

    Current team for DGW is

    Schmeichel*
    Fonte, Berty, Ivan*
    Haz*, Fabs*, Sterling*, Albrighton*, Silva
    Vardy*, Aguaro

    Pants, Kane, PVA, Dawson
    Thanks?

I have enough cash if I do Berty or Fonte to Moreno to bring in Giroud, Sanchez and 1 of Cazorla or Rambo for Kane, Fabs and Silva?

No WC just 1FT and 1,0 itb.

    -------------------Adrian
    -------Schlupp Dann Moreno
    Sterling(vc) Fabregas Silva Hazard(c)
    ------------Kun Kane Remy

    Subs: Pants JWP Pieters Clyne

    What to do?

    A) JWP>IBE and switch to 3-5-2 and bench Kane as a 1st sub
    B) JWP>Cambiaso and switch to 3-5-2 and bench Kane as a 1st sub
    C) JWP>IBE + Silva>Coutinho/Hendo for a -4 hit.
    D) JWP>Cambiaso + Silva>Coutinho for a -4hit.

I'm chasing my main rival who is 40pts ahead and already did -4 hit. He ain't got Hazard but
    have 6 DGW players (Terry,Azpi,Fabs,Cambiasso,Coutinho,Vardy) and I'm 99% sure he'll cap Fabs.

    Any suggestions? 🙂
