The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 35 – The Forwards

With double Gameweek 34 finally put to bed following Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Leicester last night, it’s full steam ahead to Gameweek 35 as we switch our attention to the forwards in the final look at our updated Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations for the remainder of the season. Olivier Giroud and Christian Benteke overtake Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane as the most sought-after frontmen thanks to some favourable fixtures, while Connor Wickham is back in the reckoning ahead of Sunderland’s double in Gameweek 37.

Olivier Giroud sees his stock rise thanks to the Gunners’ very favourable run-in (hul, SWA, mun/SUN, WBA), including the double in Gameweek 37. The French international has failed to register attacking returns in his last two outings, but with 14 goals and three assists to his name this season, the 8.6-priced forward looks an obvious target for one of our three Arsenal spots come Gameweek 37.

Having averaged 8.5 points per appearance over Aston Villa’s last seven matches, Christian Benteke moves up to second in our latest update. The Belgian international, who is valued at just 7.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), has registered an impressive ten shots from inside the box in the last four Gameweeks, and is also second among forwards for chances created (nine) over the same period. With some inviting looking fixtures (EVE, WHM, sot, BUR), it’s no surprise to see Benteke second in the transfers in this week behind Giroud with over 26,000 new owners.

Despite returning to form with four goals in the last three Gameweeks, Sergio Aguero loses his spot at the summit with Manchester City facing a fairly tricky run-in (tot, QPR, swa, SOT). The 12.6-rated Argentine international is joint second among forwards for shots inside the box (11) over the last four Gameweeks and with the added motivation of securing a first Premier League Golden Boot award since signing from Atletico Madrid in 2011, he could be worth sticking with.

Although he has scored and bagged an assist in his last two outings, there is no doubt Harry Kane has cooled off somewhat, having failed to register a double-figure haul since Gameweek 30. FPL managers are largely keeping the faith despite some pretty average upcoming fixtures (MCI, sto, HUL, eve), with the 6.5-priced forward transferred out by less than 5,000 owners so far this week. With so much competition for our three-man frontlines, though, the England international could be dispensable from this point onwards.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy rewarded the 48,000+ FPL owners that drafted him in before double Gameweek 34 with 12 points over the two matches, and with Nigel Pearson’s side still in the midst of a kind run-in (NEW, SOT, sun, QPR), a compelling argument could be made to keep hold of the 4.7-valued forward. The former non-league star leads all forwards for shots inside the box (13) over the last four Gameweeks, albeit playing an extra match than many others, and has also created eight chances, behind only Bobby Zamora and Benteke. He is playing through the pain barrier, though, having required injections in his foot to play against Burnley and Chelsea. With Vardy so crucial to the Foxes upturn in form of late as they battle for survival, it looks as if he will continue to feature despite the injury.

With goals in his last two appearances, Sunderland’s Connor Wickham is back on the radar due to the Black Cats’ double (LEI/ars) in Gameweek 37. The 5.6-rated forward faces two fairly tough match-ups before then, with a home clash against Southampton followed by a trip to in-form Everton. After his late-season heroics last year, where he scored five goals in three appearances against City, Chelsea and Cardiff, he could prove to be a handy differential once again.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle climbs up a few places on our ladder after registering his first double-digit haul since Gameweek 8 in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham. That made it three goals in as many matches for the Italian international, although with three of the Saints next four on the road (sun, lei, AVL, mci), the 7.5-priced forward may struggle to continue that form, given he has only netted once away from St Mary’s in the league this season.

While we await definitive news on the knee injury he picked up in the closing stages of Man United’s 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park, Wayne Rooney keeps his place on the Watchlist. The 10.8-valued forward has only bagged a solitary assist in his last three outings, but with Louis van Gaal’s men facing a decent run-in (WBA, cpl, ARS, hul), the England captain could flourish should the injury report from the Dutchman be positive tomorrow.

Following his return to the starting XI in Everton’s 3-0 triumph against United, Romelu Lukaku remains an option for those seeking a differential, with the Belgian’s current ownership standing at 6.5%. The Toffees are in great form, having won five of their last six, and face a pretty favourable schedule (avl, SUN, whm, TOT) from now until the end of the season.

After registering just three points from plum home clashes against West Brom and Hull, Crystal Palace’s Glenn Murray falls towards the bottom of our Watchlist. The 5.3-rated frontman did lead all forwards for shots inside the box (seven) over the last two Gameweeks but with the Eagles facing the second most difficult run-in according to our Season Ticker (che, MUN, liv, SWA), it’s no surprise to see that over 14,000 FPL managers have shipped the striker already this week.

Dame N’Doye keeps his place on the Watchlist after notching two goals against Crystal Palace last weekend. Hull do face a pretty treacherous run of fixtures (ARS, BUR, tot, MUN), but with confidence high at the KC Stadium after back-to-back wins, the 5.5-priced forward could continue to surprise, bearing in mind he is joint second among forwards over the last four Gameweeks for shots inside the box, with 11.

Saving my transfer this week so I can afford Fabregas and sterling > sanchez and 6.8m midfielder next week. However what midfielder do I get:

Downing- was in great form earlier in the season with great fixtures ahead. Unfortunately West Ham in awful form

Barkley: Very inconsistent and been poor this year but Everton on good form and good fixtures

or is there a better option Mane, larsson?

Downing - he's a great bet to finish strong. Although his FPL numbers are down, his stats are still strong - I looked on the Member site a few days ago. On that basis, I have him for the run-in.

De Jong could be a great differential, but probably won't get enough starts.

I'd go for Fellaini or Young. Grealish is a decent shout as well.

    Have Krul/Foster between the sticks..

Would it be sound to take a hit for Ospina to replace Foster, as Krul will most probably give 8 points over the next 4, however Ospina will surely give more than 12, right ?

Will go for an Arsenal midfielder for Sterling.

However, if I do the Ospina move this week, I will be 0.2m short to do Sterling > Sanchez. However can do Ozil or Ramsey. Have taken Giroud this week already.

I'd save and get Sanchez then - if Ospina keeps a CS this week and Krul doesn't, that only cancels out your four point hit anyway. Save points can always buff up Krul's score over the next few - I'd prioritise getting one of the most explosive players in the game before his DGW!

Problem is if I take Sanchez (which I would really like to),

Then will have the cash to do Skrtel > Mert/Kosc.

However if I don't take Sanchez, I can afford both Ozil and Rambo + 0.6m in bank.

However Rambo's pitch time a worry with Welbeck there.

A lot of similar arguments would've precluded a lot of the winning punts this DGW.. I get that some people play more conservatively but to get ahead at this point you have to take risks the conservatives won't, it seems, and what Wickham did this time last year saved Sunderland.. can't see them going down without a fight! That leicester game could be explosive in the same week.. could be a battle for survival!

I'd like to get him in but assuming most people's strikeforces will consist of Giroud (double GW) and Kane (at home to hull) I don't really fancy doing a -4 to get rid of a golden boot chasing Aguero for Wickham!

Yeah that template leaves little room for those who own all three, but there is some for people who are more reckless to let go of either Kane or Aguero and take the risk. I have Kane, Giroud, Vardy so I have a lot more wiggle room.

My personal view is that you should try and win every competition you're in. They're not going to win the league, so stay up, and go for it in the cups.

That's a pretty fair view of course. I like what has been developing at West Ham, my only worry would be a bad league season would give some players the onus to leave the club, regardless of how they do in other competitions.

But as I say, I would genuinely love to see West Ham in Europe. I just don't want it to damage them.

Yup, especially when it means beginning your season 2 months before the pack, it'd be July 2nd or 3rd I think. Ruins your preseason and adds an excessive number of games to teams with little squad depth. And lets be honest, nobody gives a sh!t about the europa league anyway.

That's the other funny thing, a lot of the other leagues take the Europa really seriously. But there's a weird view on it from those who watch the PL a lot! It really can damage a season, if they have the squad it'd be great to see them in Europe.

wont be so bad if they won it and got into the champs.....im sure their fans will enjoy some great away game trips across europe too........i know europa affects league form quite drastically, but for a top half club like west ham i think its great to qualify....their never going to get top 4 so only chance of champs, should be safe of relegation with europa or nor...and if get close to drop zone could start fielding weakened teams on thursdays.........i mean what are these mid table clubs playing for if its not a chance at some glory with a big cup run...to finish 12-7 every year?...how dull

West Ham aren't a top half club, more often than not they're a relegation fighting club with a record of yoyo-ing between top and 2nd tier. Given that they're likely removing Allardyce soon and moving into a new stadium in 2015, i'd be concerned about their EPL status in the next few years.

Sanchez, anyone like to help me with my dilemma

I think he's overpriced for what he's delivering atm and I could match him with Ramsey and Ozil instead and have more cash for upgrades elsewhere.

But he has high ownership and arguably the most explosive potential of them all. Plus I'm defending a slender lead against someone likely to go Sanchez (c) GW37

do I stick to my belief and risk going without or do I say screw risk, I've got an ML to win, get him and (c) him to cut off that avenue of attack?

I can't afford him with doing Hazard >> Sanchez - and yes I'm scared.

Compared the three on FFF and surprisingly, Sanchez doesn't look the most appealing. He misses a vast amount of his shots.

Follow the points. If you're confident you'll score more points without him, then go for it. I've got him in because I think I'll score more points with him in the team - don't let fear drive your decisions!

The thing to think about is that if you get him now your rival (assuming he's still chasing come 37) will more than likely have to captain someone else to try to make up the ground. Personally If it's the ML (as opposed to OR) that you're concerned about I'd hold off getting Sanchez til the last minute so as your rival doesn't know what move you will make thus giving you a little bit more of an advantage...maybe 😀

On the homepage click on articles (the area where there is recent comments and hot topics). Jonty posted an article on Tuesday morning (assume this would be the same every week) asking people to post their picks. By Wednesday morning, the one with the most votes is selected to represent and email jonty a 200 word explanation by Thursday and that's it basically. I'll keep an eye out for your team next week and upvote if I like your selections!

Its unlikely they could have second place sewn up until the last game of the season. Szczezny is likely to play the Cup final, so will probably be saved for GW38. Ospina is a safe pick, IMO.

Ozil might be a differential though.

I'm going with Koscielny to avoid this 😀

    My team for GW35:

    Schmeichel (Panti)

Skrtel - Terry - Smalling (McShane, PVA)

Hazard - Cambiasso - Henderson - Sterling (Fabregas)

    Vardy - Giroud - Aguero (c)

    Am I right benching Fabs?

Nah, I'd bench Cambiasso easy...I'm torn between benching one of Silva/Fabs/Hendo/Sterling/Vardy; thoughts?

Silva/Fabs for me... I just think Fabs will go back to a deeper roll
