Just discovered Gargatron and loving it... maybe a bit too much. A few observations.
Granville's armband selection has been excellent.
Simon March's total captain score is less than both Granville and Mark.
Simon March has captained Costa more often than Aguero.
Jonty sure loves a points hit for a self-proclaimed dullard.
I have captained Aguero too much and it has cost me.

I'm really impressed with my unused sub score. Not many will beat that I fancy and adds weight to the cheap 5th mid theory.

Which of those stats do yuo think is the most important?

Given at the end of the day total points is what matters, I suppose total captain score is the most important one there, along with points spent on transfers.

Don't take this the wrong way but...dude....that's sad. *starts doing same thing for rivals teams*

Captain score as a % of highest possible captain score : I think anything over 50% is pretty decent. Haven't seen anyone over 60%? I was in the 60s earlier in the season but wasn't able to maintain that

      Anyone higher than 60%?

    Contemplating one of the following:

    A. Skrtel / Sterling --> Collins / Sanchez
    B. Skrtel / Sterling / Kane --> Collins / Ramsey / Benteke -4
    C. Ivanovich / Sterling / Kane --> Collins / Sanchez / Benteke -4

    Collins is must-have obviously 🙂
Thoughts on which way to go?

Do we reckon Sterling could do well against Chelsea? Liverpool are fighting for a top 4 finish and Chelsea already have the league... Or is it time to get rid of Sterling once and for all?

We are talking about Sterling. It's a great player, who is out of form, but playing in a team, that has a slight chance of ending up top 4, and Chelsea might be a little off.

Of course there is a chance, and he will give you returns eventually, but you have to compare with who you're getting in instead. Simple.

      1. TuttiFrutti
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 2 days ago

And form is temporary, for all we know he can be in-form on sunday. It's whether you're willing to take that risk. The risk is keeping rather than selling.

Seeing you have Henderson and Skrtel, those two should be sufficient. Ditch Sterling if needed, but he could of course get in the points. But if for no hit, better get in Arsenal mid now.

Is my bench correct for this GW? Not so sure about which keeper to play, then there's also the Henderson/Albrighton debate.

    Schmeichel
    Terry - Skrtel - Stones
    Hazard - Silva - Sanchez - Albrighton
    Kun - Giroud - Vardy

    Davis -- Henderson - PVA - Duff

    1. Shifty

Aye i'm in the Albrighton/Henderson conundrum too.

Can't help but feel i'm chasing points with Albrighton. Surely he can't deliver 3 games in a row? 🙁

No Gerrard is tempting me to play Hendo, but LIV are crap at the mo.

Its alot about how you set up your team, rly. And this is one of the most important aspects of having a well balanced team.

I.e I always try to have atleast two heavy-hitters who I can captain, and also rotates h/a. And I don't put too many eggs in one basket, but rather try to spread my premium-players around on the top teams. You never know who will be the leaky defense in five weeks, or who is doing everything right in the attack. One day it's Arsenal, another week it's City.

Just gargonated my team. Thought this was interesting seeing I'm a dyed-in-the-wool 4-3-3 man:

    Formations :
    3-4-3 (26 times - average 59.3 points)
    4-4-2 (5 times - average 63.8 points)
    3-5-2 (2 times - average 66.5 points)
    4-3-3 (2 times - average 53 points)

Anyone else find that the 3-5-2 had the highest average? Is 3-5-2 the way to go?

It's not exactly surprising given the tiny sample sizes. Also 3-4-3 is usually the go-to formation so nearly every low-scoring week will be a 3-4-3 whereas you only really play a 3-5-2 when circumstances make that appealing.

"Listen carefully, I shall say this only once..."

This obsession with Benteke is a hysterical bandwagon that will end in tears. Taking hits to get him in with 3 games to play and often at the expense of Giroud is one of the knee-jerkiest decisions I have ever seen widely advocated on here.

    Villa have 3 fixtures left:

    1. West Ham (h) - a team that has conceded 5 goals in the last 6 games including 3 clean sheets;
    2. Southampton (a) - a team with 11 clean sheets in 17 games at St Mary's;
    3. Burnley (h) - a game in which Big Ben may not play 90 in advance of the Cup Final and for which it would be possible to bring him in on a FT as a last GW punt anyway.

I honestly think people are taking leave of their senses.

I just lost my sense and brought in Benteke yesterday on the following assumptions: he will score against West Ham, maybe not against Sot'on which they will draw or lose, meaning he'll have to play against Burnley and bag a haul to secure their spot. Of course, Kane will come back to prove me very wrong 😉

No, not even on a FT. Giroud and Aguero occupy 2 of my striker spots. The 3rd is occupied until GW38 when I might possibly bring Benteke in.

A lot of people have Kane in their 3rd spot. Is it really sensible to lose him with Hull (h) next week? Others will be going without Giroud in DGW. That can easily come back to bite them.

For a FT and with DGW players sorted out already, Benteke might be a decent punt. For a hit or at the expense of DGW players I don't think it is.

Thing is Kane and Spurs completely out of form - so it's not that clear cut. And Kane got Everton away in GW38, at which point they will be completely off to the beach. But maybe not worth a hit, depends really on Benteke continuing his scoring streak against West Ham, and also playing Burnley. Worth a punt to me.

Kane had a lot of shots on goal last week, he's not gone missing.

The key point is he's still taking and his team are creating for him, Benteke has scored 6 from 6 shots, if those shots stop against the next 2 who have decent defences then he won't score.

I've brought him in for Kane and I'm feeling very good about it. For a striker, form is much more important than fixtures. Very good stats and against 2 teams with almost nothing to play for. His stats are great too. We'll see!

So West Ham could keep out Sunderland, Burnley and QPR (with a pen save). Watertight that.

Southampton have hardly been tight home or away of late.

Burnley could easily be a bloodbath if Villa need to win.

I agree getting him over GIroud is a bit mental, but he's probably the most in-form striker in the league atm.

Ruth: last week you were one of my favourite posters.

This week, you have become mildly detestable.

You're talking kak here I'm afraid. Given the form Benteks is in, the need to still win games and the unpredictable nature of the end of season games, this is precisely the time to take hits.

As I've proved in the last 8 games of last season when I went hitastical-and so did my rank-hits will work whenever you play them.

You are trying a bit too hard at present my friend.

Burnley???? Really? At home! The last game of the season! It is THE fixture! Yes, there is a chance he'll be rotated, but that is one huge risk to take, I'd say. Could see a battering 5-0 here. Giving them sweeet confidence before the last match before a well deserved summer (if they keep up in the PL, that is, they might actually be fighting a relegation battle, in their last match)

The 4 earlier West Ham games you refer to included Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal as opponents and happened around 2 months ago. Villa are not a comparable opponent.

Southampton have conceded 9 goals in their last 9 games and are rock-solid at St. Mary's. That's not a propitious fixture for anyone.

Burnley is a good fixture and one for which Benteke could be brought in without any hit needed. Just a bit of sensible planning.

Apart from that I don't know what you are getting so emotive about. I'm just expressing an opinion.

I agree with you. But I don't think it's worth a hit or re-shaping of your team at the expense of the DGW with Villa having 3 games left and not the greatest fixtures apart from the last one.

It's only because I have logged on this morning and seen Benteke, Benteke, Benteke in almost every post that I thought a counter-view would be appropriate. Especially when people are talking about hits (sometimes multiple hits).

I'm taking a -8 over next 2 weeks whether I want Benteke or Giroud. Either way I'll have 3 Arsenal.

Basically - Benteke+Koscielny+Henderson or Giroud+Larsson+Ivanovic. Might not be worth the hit but it's happening either way 🙂

Well I dearly wished I had sold Kane to Bentekke last week on a FT. The only reason I didn't was because I knew it'd make it really tough to bring in Sanchez. In the end I decided to wait and they both got a brace. Sometimes being conservative and saving a transfer is the wrong decision.

Getting him in for -4 when Giroud is involved I would agree is a little bit crazy.

As for the rest well it really depends how you want to look at it. For West Ham you've covered last games not last games away. Away they've conceded 4 in 3.

For Southampton you've gone opposite and just looked at home fixtures which is fair enough. But they're also a team that has shipped 6 in their last 3 games, including 2 in the last home fixture.

Burnley is going to be a bit of a lottery potentially, all depends if Villa are safe. If they are I don't expect him to feature but if they're not they're going to be up against a side with nothing left to play form.

Benteke is in some serious form and it's no wonder people are looking at him. For a hit I can understand depending on who is going but for Giroud like I said before - completely agree.

He's a great option if you're chasing a mini league and could even be a captain differential this week, although you'd be a brave man to go against Aguero.

      1. Ruth_NZ

4 in 3 is only 1.33 per game. West Ham are not a bad defensive team. It's their attacking that has lost potency since Carroll got injured again.

I quoted Southampton overall later. But we all know that Southampton at St. Mary's are a tough nut to crack, right?

I don't say he's a bad option. I just think people getting him now will find themselves boarding the train a stop too late, especially if they are taking a hit to do so.

          They have been yeah.

Schneiderlin out now though which won't help and I'm not convinced by Davis even though he has kept 2/3 CS at home, albeit against weak opposition.

            Yep.

Alderweireld in midfield is a good replacement for Schneiderlin, keeps the defensive shape. Davis I fully agree with you about. But the way I see it, Southampton are now maybe conceding 1 goal where they kept a clean sheet before. It's not as if they have become extremely leaky.

of course it can turn out like he is saying. FPL over a short period is alot luck/randomness. I bet most alot of number 1-ranks for each gameweeks are dead teams. Doesn't mean it was the right desicion. Any familiar with poker?

Very familiar with Poker but I also find it highly irrelevant in an FPL context. You can't derive FPL into a mathematical equation of probability.

There is a significant amount of luck in FPL and it cannot be denied. The cream rises to the top yes but thats using a large sample size of the entire FPL season. Anything can happen over 3GW's.

all we can do is looking at the facts we have at this moment, and make up our minds on what is the right desicion. Everyone is obliged to have their own, but it can still be "wrong" or stupid. It's like if you captained gomez last week, that would've been a stupid desicion that turned out well.

"Ruth is doing quite reasonable actually and is well known for making some big calls. Quite often gets them correct too despite the public outcry. I wouldn't tempt fate by making a fool of yourself, he could well be right.".

I agree to a point what saying I can't get till gw38 with major hits.

      Il be aguero/giroud

      Gw36 vardy
      Gw37 sunderland attacker
Gw38 bentake if need him (depends if villa safe and my money league)

Excellent post Ruth, pretty much how I'm seeing it, if they are safe by 38 then that could be a pretty big banana skin and most would captain him.

He's also scored 6 goals in 6 shots, that's not sustainable.

Everton had great form until Benteke.

Southampton lost 3-2 at home to Villa last year.

      Burnley are rubbish.

You post a lot of good stuff but I dont agree with this one! Benteke is the form player in the league, no player is matching him for points per game over the last month... Hes very hard to ignore.

Look at the positives for Benteke, you mention West Ham's resilience but Everton were in fact the best defence in the last 6 games before Benteke got his brace, having only conceded 2 in their last 6. He is the main threat in that team by a country mile and not many would bet against Villa beating West Ham have who 2 away clean sheets all season, they are playing for nothing and have a manager heading for the exit door. A win would all but ensure survival.

I think they will be very motivated to get the win and focus on the cup final and because of that GW38 is a risk like you say. So you could argue that a hit would be too short term, although what isnt at this stage?

Well, they should have thought twice before bringing him in against "resilient Everton", but the transfer paid off (for me among the others).

Villa is still in survival mode which often means bigger oooomph.

A survival-driven team at home against a team with nothing to play for? Sounds good to me.

Besides, if they fail in one game that means even more motivation for the remaining two. Or, say, Benteke gets a goal in 1-1, that means they'll be desperate to score away to Soton.

Yes, home / away difference is significant, and Saints want to secure Europa, but great strikers strike when they absolutely have to, regardless of context.

Giroud looked more practical against Hull, but Arsenal have more scorers in their team, while Villa rely on Benteke. As for Kane - he seems to be losing his influence too.

Saturday 9th - most made striker transfers this week:

      1. Kane to Benteke
      5. Austin to Benteke

Also more than 30k transfers out of Giroud the week before DGW. The Benteke bandwagon is clearly causing people to take hits to make transfers like this in some cases as well, whether directly or indirectly (using a FT on Benteke and needing a hit to have 3 Arsenal next week).

It will be interesting to see how that all goes. If Benteke misses a haul today against West Ham there will certainly be some disappointed managers. 😕

Figures now revised Ryan. Most popular striker transfers last GW:

          1. Kane to Benteke
          2. Austin to Benteke
          3. Giroud to Benteke!!!
          5. Remy to Benteke
          7. Vardy to Benteke!
          8. Murray to Benteke

Lord knows how many hits involved, actual or implicit. In the case of Kane, yes he blanked too. But he has Hull (h) next, Big Ben has Soton (a). Who do you want?

All I said in the OP was "not for a hit". I'll stick by that.

    Dears,

I'm not chasing points but I would like to get as close as possible to the first in my respective country.

    Mignolet (vs chelsea)
    Ivanovic (vs liver)
    Bertrand (vs Leicester)
    Schlupp(vs Southampton)

    Brunt (vs newcastle)
    Hazard (vs liverpool)
    Sanchez (vs swansea)
    Cazorla (vs swansea)

    Ndoye (vs burnley)
    Benteke (vs west ham)
    Aguero (vs qpr)

I'm taking a -8 to bring in brunt against depleted newcastle defense, Benteke in form and save his team up the ladder, and Ndoye as well to avoid that third relegation spot which is currently occupied by 33 point Sunderland.

Going to do Sterling to Rambo.=, already have Sanchez.

But my question is should I do Remy (Damn you!) to Giroud for a hit, or wait. If it was for a hit Giroud of course would have to at least score once and Arsenal are a lottery as it is holding on to Remy may seem silly, but I was gonna do him to Giroud a while ago but Cambiasso has outscored them both!

Is there a way to look at a line graph of a mini league so you can see how you've moved up and down its rankings throughout the season?

there used to be in FPL as I recall but it was never very good as it didn't put enough space between the data so all the lines looked too close to each other anyway

Why is he the most likely to be rested? When he's fit he plays.

Before Hull, in the 2 games, Coquelin was subbed off and Ramsey put in the middle, not sure where this Ramsey rotation comes from, 2 years ago when he was playing badly he still played every week.
