Pryor Clinches Sky Crown

After revealing that one of our members, Simon March, walked away with the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) crown, we’re also delighted to announce that Geoff Pryor has emerged triumphant in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game.

Geoff’s team, “Right Doesn’t Know”, finished 30 points ahead of his nearest challenger and wins him a cool £30,000 for a season’s work. As evidenced by his performances in the Sun Dream Team game last season, when he finished fifth overall, Geoff clearly is something of an all-round Fantasy Football expert.

Fantasy Football Scout supplied three of the top five managers for the Sky game. Katie Burgin took fourth spot on 2440 points, whilst John Eaton finished in fifth on 2432 points. Katie and John earn £1,000 and £500 from Sky for their performances.

Thanks to their endeavours, we successfully defended our crown in the “League of Leagues”, which comes with a £2,500 prize – the top five managers in the FFScout league will receive £500 apiece as a reward.

Our FFS Contributors and Moderators league will be hoping to challenge for the title next year after finishing tenth this time out, with our resident Sky expert Disable and myself earning a place in the top 100 overall.

Look out for an interview with Geoff later in the week as he discusses his successful campaign.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Good advice Trigger, just discovered the Gargamel link - v useful. I got 23 measly points from my 15 autosubs. March got 48 from 11 subs. I reckon you would finish top 50 if you'd move away from the mean defence. March got 4 points more per week from his defence plus 20 more points from keeper giving roughly an extra 160 points overall.

it always makes me chuckle that people criticize you and your blog, yet one look at your history tells us that you know what you are doing.

This is bookmarked for next season as I have the aim of cracking the top 1k.

The wildcard is the big one, to me there is no right or wrong time to use it. It should be used when needed (if you have a lot of injuries or dead wood) or for a DGW like GW34 this time to help gain an advantage. My GW34 wildcard propelled me about 40k in one GW

Valdes is deemed not good enough then. I hope he gets Cech, can't see Mourinho selling to United though. Although he did sell Mata...

        • 10 Years
        8 years, 12 months ago

Strange he doesn't rate Valdes imo. Good enough for Barca for years.

I think the difference with Mata is he didn't rate him. He rates Cech highly, but Courtois higher.

Its crazy, they were desperate to win that 10th Champions League trophy for over a decade and spent hundreds of millions failing then Ancelotti delivers it in his first season. A year later he's sacked for finishing second and getting to the semi final when no team has retained it for 25 years.

    Arsenal’s Arturo Vidal Transfer Complete

Arsenal have already secured the signing of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to Argentine journalist Hernan Feler- who is reportedly the man who initially broke the news of Vidal’s Chilean compatriot Alexis Sanchez’ move to the Emirates last year.

    On Twitter, Feler said:

“After the Copa America in Chile, it will be made official the arrival of Arturo Vidal to Arsenal. Everything is closed. Alexis [Sanchez] will partner him.”

{Ed002's Note - Some of this will change by the summer and there are major dependencies on (a) players leaving, and (b) how much money the club can raised through sales. However, there is known to be (or have recently been) some level of interest in the following players fairly recently:

GK: Cech (clearly the preferred option), Leno, Perin, Begovic, Leno and Ochoa have been considered. Interest in Neto has probably gone. Casillas might be an expensive alternative.

RB: After the progress Bellerin has made I don't see a RB being a priority.

CB: St Et's Loic Perrin is also a consideration for Arsenal, as is Virgil van Dijk. Howedes may just be a possibility. Roma are losing the battle to get Alessio Romagnoli to sign a new contract but Inter has the edge over both Sampdoria and Arsenal who were very keen on the player. Dragovic, Glik and Subotic have been considered but interest is likely gone, as has interest in Hummels has gone. River Plate's Balanta has been watched by Arsenal, but nothing will happen there.

DM: Arsenal will look to Southampton's Schneiderlin this summer and I think a deal can be done. Biglia does not appear to be a viable option but has been looked at. Carvalho remains a player that both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in and his situation remains the same. He is for sale, but the asking price would need to come down to make any move possible. Khedira needs to get his act together and make a decision - put I suspect it will not be Arsenal. Asier Illarramendi has been of interest to Arsenal although a move is unlikely.

M: Fekir is a player of strong interest to Arsenal amongst others - Lyon do not want to lose him and Lacazette and are very difficult to deal with - but it is just possible. Certainly Arsenal are considering Calhanoglu and might move for him if Fekir is not available. Regardless of what Juventus say about wanting Vidal to stay, there is every chance he will leave Juve this summer and Arsenal has looked at him – but there is certainly no deal in place. Matuidi remains a possibility as he will probably be available and the club are aware of that. Bernard will be available but I doubt that Arsenal will consider rekindling their interest. Inter were looking to sell Kovacic and have spoken with Arsenal amongst other - the player does not want to leave at this time, and Inter will likely sacrificice Hernanes instead. Interest in Draxler has probably gone. The club will be approached about Arda Turan but I do not know if they will be interested at all. Arsenal have made an enquiry regarding Isco's availability. Interest in Gundogan seems to have been rekindled as he is still delaying signing a new contract – but I doubt a move to Arsenal will happen.

W/F: Dybala has been of sustained interest but he will not be moving to Arsenal. Arsenal will possibly turn to Jackson Martinez, Aleksandar Mitrović, Rodrigo or possibly Gonzalo Higuain as they cannot bring in their first choice.

Gameiro has been looked at and might provide a fallback position but there is interest from Marseille and Liverpool. Another alternative is Hoffenheim's Firmino, but Manchester City are already in talks. Kishna (I understand his agent wants him to move to Juventus) is probably no longer a consideration, and Lacazette is almost certainly not going to happen. Two other players the club were interested in - Bakkali and Andre Ayew - are very unlikely. Arsenal's interest in Pedro remains. Whilst there is still possible interest in Reus, a move does not seem viable this summer.

Eintracht Braunschweig failed to make Bayer Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi's loan permanent in the summer amidst interest from both Hamburg and Hoffenheim. Interest from Stuttgart seems to have gone although Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham have had the player scouted this season - Chelsea has another solution in mind now. However, any move this summer is unlikely as he has signed a new long-term contract with Leverkusen.

    Douglas Costa appears to be heading elsewhere and I suspect Arsenal have dropped their interest in him. Malcom and Tielmans have been looked at but there appears to be no interest. "Apparently" (an agent's "apparently"), Manchester United and Arsenal remain interested in Mandukic. I very much doubt it.}

Apparently these are Arsenals transfer targets.

I saw that, but the right setup and a new manager are much more badly needed right now, once the coaching staff and possibly DoF are in place (one can dream of quality names) I'd think the squad will be looked at and maybe 2-3 additions made.

Even when it's on the club website I still take it with a pinch of salt, Kenny got the infamous vote of confidence and then was sacked. What speaks volumes to me is that the owners have remained quiet about this for months now. If they truly backed him they would of dismissed these rumours immediately. Instead they leak things to ITK journalists and are obviously sounding out candidates. If Klopp, Rafa or another manager on their shortlist wants to come I'm convinced he'll get the boot.

They're currently doing a review of the entire club, performed by a third objective party, separate to the end of season review with the manager meeting (don't confuse them). It's been going on a while so I'd imagine they'll act on its results, which should really point to replacing the manager and putting into place the right staff around him, DoF, coaches etc.

In hindsight, I regret my wording there. FSG are shrewd business men, it would be naive to think they wouldn't have contingency plans in place. I was inferring from the PR but I guess it's not all that obvious.

They were definitely, I'm not so sure now, their journos get their info from ITK sources, but if that source was the Brodge himself or someone who just doesn't have a clue you can see where fact goes amiss. The fact is the owners don't leak info unless they think it useful, so it's impossible to say really.

The Echo are Liverpool's unofficial mouthpiece. They aren't necessarily reliable. They are good for conveying Liverpool's PR message. If they wanted to calm down the fans frenzy whilst still being able to sack Rodgers this is exactly how they would do it.

How any of these expensive players will we be able to afford to have in our team's next season?:

    Terry
    Ivanovic
    Sanchez
    Aguero
    Hazard
    Silva
    Costa

Clearly, the price structure will make it virtually impossible to have any 5 of them next season so players will be forced to choose which ones to have and which ones to forego.

If you could only afford 3 of them next season which 3 would you take?

We stunk and deserved to go down.

To answer JK's question, I think Austin goes to either Southampton or Newcastle. I think he'd prefer to go to Saints but now that Newcastle have stayed up and Ashley says he will invest in the team…..

If they get McClaren then Austin could well go there and it could be a god move for him.

He's worked with McClaren before so there's familiarity there and, let's face it, other than Cissé the rest of their strikers are crap.

Austin would be a massive hit at St James Park and he' be playing in front of 50,000 fans every home game.

                Yeah.

To think Redknapp was on the brink of sending Phillips to Wigan on loan in January too.

If it wasn't for Austin we'd have given the 2007 Derby team a run for their money.

You beat United at Old Trafford the season you went down. We did eff all against any of the top 7 clubs.

Not that I wish to get into a 'my team is sh*ttier than yours' debate, but we really sucked big hairy sweaty donkeys balls this season.

On a separate note, in Turkish league Fenerbahce just drew 2-2 with Basaksehir which resulted arch rivals Galatasaray to win the title

Fenerbahce ended the game 4 players sent off.

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/may/24/how-does-raheem-sterling-score-against-ronaldo-messi-age-20

    Interesting read.

In summary : Sterling actually DOES stack up stats-wise VS some of the best ever players at the age of 20. Although this doesn't take into account attitude.

Plus we'll get a nice sell on wedge when he goes.

Should be able to get Austin's replacement with that.

      Mmm, not convinced by that.

Sterling was playing cf at times for liverpool. No one criticised him for not getting into positions to score, it was for his horrendous end product.

The likes of Ronaldo didn't play cf, more like a wingers so for them to have similar chances and scores would suggest thy were better?

Sterling has potential. It now comes down to his attitude and how hard he wants to work or if he just wants to collect an astronomic wage. I have my doubts...

I have made the decision to stick around over the 'off season'.

I usually just afk and come back when the league is about to start but this time, I feel it would benefit me in the long run to stay on and help/chat to people to get to know them.

    Hypothetically BR gets sacked.

Who will be keen to manage Liverpool?

I'm not sure if Klopp or Ancelotti will be up for that with all due respect.

It always difficult to fit all the players you want at the start of the season.

Apart from Aguero, there are no real 'stand out' strikers.

Given the points above I might go with Aguero and two budget strikers at the start so I can afford Hazard, Sanchez and Silva in midfield. Unless they reclassify Sanchez as a forward.

I think he's a bit more of a striker / winger hybrid than Hazard but yeah hopefully you're right.

Aguero is in Copa America too right?

There's always something to get in the way of FPL!

I don't think I've ever owned Aguero first day of the season.

Getting that 3rd forward spot is important IMO, that's why I invest so much time pre-season

My one this season was Austin. If you'd put him in and left him there you'd have done pretty well out of this season

Finding the next Austin as opposed to the next Ebanks-Blake will be critical

Might as well accept that you'll probably get it wrong and look to correct it once the right answers emerge. This year quite a few budget strikers turned out to be good including Kane, Austin, Ings, Berahino, etc

That's like finding a Unicorn, twice.
Before this year I cannot recall a true budget striker. (-6mil)
        (Btw, I consider Lambert a mid-priced fwd)

But, that kinda speaks to my point.
It's pretty rare to find these guys, right?
I mean, I've played 4 seasons now & that's a total of three & two of them came along this year.
Maybe a *veteran* of the game could let us know if there were any other sub-6mil no brainer every week strikers?

There;s always one or 2 out there and I always try and identify them

sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it wrong, but I always look for them

For example if he's on loan somewhere and is nailed, James Wilson could be worth a look
