The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – Swansea City

After stepping in as a caretaker manager following the sacking of Michael Laudrup, Garry Monk eventually guided Swansea to a 12th place finish in the 2013/14 season, and was handed the job on a permanent basis ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. The former captain went about rebuilding his squad, with Lukasz Fabianski, Federico Fernandez, Jefferson Montero, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis amongst the notable arrivals. Many of the Spanish contingent at the Liberty departed, though, with Chico Flores, Pablo Hernandez and Michu (on loan) all leaving the club, while Michel Vorm and Ben Davies joined Tottenham.

In this members article, we take a detailed look at Monk’s first full season in charge, analysing the chief goal threats and creators as the Swans recorded a record points total (56) and highest Premier League finish of eighth under the rookie manager.

Depay has almost 25% ownership. Higher than I expected.
Kind of makes me want to shift him to Mané.
(Was already considering this move before i checked the %)

Yeah, but the upside is greater with Manè.
Looking forward to see Depay this season in any case.

Dunno what the story is.with mane did not think hr would have so much hype he scored 11 goals last season but 3 of them goals came in 1 game so scored 8 out of the.rest he played which I would presume is over 30

          PPG of 4.6

That's higher than Cazorla, Sterling, Hendo, Eriksen, Mata, and Ramsey

          24 games, 6 times as u sub, 2135 minutes.
          10 goals and 3 assists.

The numbers saying "get Mane", but still, I dont own him. atm.

It's the primal challenge of being out in nature and using a bow and arrow to kill something that might kill you.

I've never hunted (fished a little, badly, when I was a kid), don't plan to, but if you can't see how what this dentist did might intrigue some people, it's kinda hard to explain.

You're free to believe it wasn't a primal challenge.

I wasn't there, so can't calculate the odds of the dentist getting eaten.

But I dare say there was a little adrenaline flowing all around.

If it was just about that he should try taking on the lion with just a big stick and no back up in the truck with guns.
Would get the brown adrenalin flowing.

Fair enough, if you still have such an attitude that is fine, and your point is valid. But there's no need to hunt endangered animals. People have urges, understandable, didn't mean he had to act on them like the monster he is.

Check the safari hunting stats or ask someone involved in that line of work or anyone from East Africa or Southern Africa. Check the number of Americans versus other countries. Your comment doesn't correlate with fact re: killing endangered animals. But if you prefer to slate Americans without knowing anything, go ahead.

            Can't restrict it to Americans
European countries have terrible record of animal abuse.
            French and Spanish in particular
Seen stories of them glueing birds to trees to attract other birds to land then they can kill them all.
Also hanging their hunting dogs at end of season to save the cost of keeping them over winter

I know (because I have read it) that these questions have surfaced, but hoping to get a bit of a discussion going on premium strikers to start off this season with:

    1) Costa - Doesnt seem to have caught fire in pre-season, hamstrings of a potassium starved grandfather - but start of last season I dropped him bc of that yellow marker and he burned me. DO we think he is going to explode or should I settle for Haz attack points and assign that money elsewhere from Costa
    2) Rooney - Man Utd look to have bought themselves some goals and defensive mid cover so Rooney can move forward again, but will he be as prolific or grab the occasional dirty one (whenever I dont have him as captain) He is a pretty secure starter until I think Kun is ready, but I worry that pre-season form should be taken more into account. WIll he suddenly start firing away as soon as PL first whistle blows or carry on toddering along?
2)Kane - rated so highly on here, but he didnt end the season too great, nothing from pre-season, and didnt shine in U21 competition so why we expecting him to suddenly light up in tougher PL? Am I missing a trick with him, bc my gut keeps telling me no?
    3) Tekkers - I honestly would have preferred Liverpool had not got him, and would have to start Ings as he would have been FPL gold, but is Bentke really going to be a points machine or a wait and see from GW 1?
    4) Pelle - feels like a gamble but should I just roll the dice - Southampton have quite nice start, he ended the season strong and feel like bit of a break will do him even more good - Am a fooling myself here, because the money I would save on him could beef up mid and def?
5)Last but nt least - Kun - definitely getting him, just a matter of when - do people think Im going to miss out if I get him in GW4, or right to hold fire until he eased back/faced chelsea bus?

Love to hear people's thoughts, because I keep spinning myself in circles and just can't settle on my final team and its the heavy top that is getting me.

And a cheeky bonus question: if Costa is really injured (#slyjose) do we think Falcao might suddenly be a bargain worth gambling on, or would it be Remy that gets the nod?

      • 11 Years

stick as unless you back benteke there aren't any other strikers with anywhere near as much potential

has every chance to do well and a great record when playing as striker

      avoid

wait and see imo but a solid option anyway

      wait and see, prefer mane

      hold fire

      avoid falcao and remy

Thanks for response, I agree Costa could be a reckless move away, but I be upset if I watch all that money hobble round the pitch doing nothing - which he has been known to do.

Tekkers feels a tempting option, but is he really a goal machine, liverpool werent known for feeding the forwards last season ( see Lambert/Balo/Sterling when he played centre forward) - i keep taking him out everytime i draft him in, but am I missing something?

You could but then the rest of your team probbaly wouldnt play, or you are heavily invested in the promoted sides - all four of them would leave you just too unbalanced - I'd say look at Mata/Depay for Rooney when get Kun in, and think maybe Walcott be decent alternative to Sanchez especially at start of season, and then you would have lot of valuable funds to balance rest of team out a bit.

I agree. Walcott's strongest suit is his "freshness", which is often used from the bench. He benefitted from others' tiredness over the past few weeks of last season, while he had been resting for months while he recovered from injury. Given that Ozil, Sanchez, Ramsey, Carzola and Giroud are all now 'rested' (albeit that Sanchez had a few games in south america) I can see Walcott being the impact sub again more often than not.

A by far, but not a fair comparison as £1.5m more expensive

I'm going Payet, he's looked electric in pre-season

Some fantasy math going on right here. Taken from a wierd fantasy game i am playing.

Your Budget is 160m and you got 16 players, manager and a stadium to buy.

Math issue is only related to stadium.

A: Buy Old Trafford at 30m

B: Buy Liberty at 12m or Goldsand at 10m

You earn a starting of 5£ per ticket sold but can buy upgrades at an unknown cost, but after 6 upgrades you get 15£ per ticket sold.

That means at the ground level with OT you get bout 375k per match and at Liberty 100k, Goldsand 60k.

Of the bigger stadiums OT is the best where you get 2500 (TPM; tickets per million) and on the other end is Goldsand with 1200 TPM

My current team(in progress, just started twerking it) is

    Cech, Allsop

    Ivan, Bellerin, Baines, Kolarov

    Mane, Walcott, Sterling, Hazard, McGugan

    Rooney, Lukaku, Roberts, Deeney

Now the players are priced at a decimal on start example: Cech 6,1, Allsop 2.0, Walcott 11,4, Haz 13.5 and Rooney 14.5

    The scoring is the same.

At the moment i am thinking that if i use the extra 18m on my team i am actually set for the season.

Take OT now and you will benefit in the long run. You want to tailor your spending such that you have the biggest proportion of money on cash generation now, and then lower the amount as the season goes on.

The Extra cash will have greater the effect the earlier in the season you get it.

Appreciate the advice. Just got word that one upgrade in earnings at Ot cost 4m, which means 11 GWks to upgrade. By picking Goldsand i will free up 20million to upgrade at start and gain 1.5 m by the first wildcard, by picking OT i will gain 7m extra from the team i have now.

So, with Caulker, are Saints set for defense, and is Caulker viable, assuming an entry price of 5.0?

Nope. Koeman's comments imply that we're still in the market. A few days ago he mentioned one or two CBs and today he confirmed that they were still working on signings. And both Koeman and Fonte's comments imply Caulker is there to provide competition and may not walk into a CB spot. I'd guess they're working on van Dijk - his signing would explain all the time its taking because Celtic would only let him go after CL qualification, much like Forster last season.

But I'm sure there will be plenty of people saying Caulker's 'nailed on' and whatever. πŸ˜›

Cheers. I know people bug you ad nauseum. I was definitely surprised by that loan signing today. It's a good one, no doubt, whatever happens. If it's just for competition, then that's bad for FPL but good for Soton.

He may play, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's a certainty. πŸ™‚

Lucy, does the Caulker signing rule out the possibility of Yoshida getting a few early games?

And how likely is Targett to get a couple of games before Bertrand returns?

I honestly don't know the CB status.

And Bertrand's recovering quicker than expected. 1-2 games for Targett, probs.
