The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

Interesting article. Last year's performance over a full season would make him a top forward.

He's the obvious striker below 8.5, in my opinion. Offers way more initial value than Deeny or C. Wilson (allthough they might be worth drafting in as the season progress).

Well, O'Shea is captain, yet Sunderland played a strong defence yesterday and they opted for Kaboul and Coates. My gut says O'Shea.. But I'm already planning on having Pantilimon so I won't need to take that risk 😉

After days of tinkering, I think I'm pretty pleased. I would like to double up on Chelsea in attack. I would like some more United coverage. I would really like to know who's the best below 8.5 pick in midfield. Should I go for Mane, Hendo or Milner instead? But right now, I think this is a strong team with potential for good scores, who also gives the flexibility to make changes early on.

    Ruddy / Rudd
    Azpi / Mert / Cedric / Huth / S. Taylor
    Hazard / Walcott / Sterling / Chadli / Westwood
    Rooney / Benteke / Sakho

Should I be pleased? Can I leave this till Saturday?

I rather miss a fluke Milner goal or a Hendo assist than a haul from Chadli (which I see coming in one of the early GWs). Chadli for me.

Dont believe in expensive defenders. Think it's all about having as much money on the Fields as possible (as little money on the bench as possible) and while expensive attackers still delivers vs good teams defenders tend to not

So the most nailed on are Caz Ram and Ozil.

Caz- relied on pens last season
    Ozil- hype for now
Ramsey- done in it in the past.

    I'm inclined towards Ramsey

Is anyone leaving some money ITB?

Last season I was always short when I wanted to jump on early bandwagons and in the end I ended up with very poor Team Value. That's why I'm thinking of leaving some this time.

    What Say U?

    1. FootballPhenomenon
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

I've got 0,5m ITB and am quite comfortable with my squad as it is.

In my opinion it's a good thing to have at least some money ITB especially at the start of the season as almost everything we thought would happen can go sideways and that's when you need that extra little ITB to make some valuable transfers in the early GWs.

Does anyone else wait untill Saturday night by watching Match of the day totally oblivious of the scores while supporting their FPL players? I find that more fun than watching Soccer Saturday or checking scores on an app. I do work Saturdays so it works for me.

Only downside is when you opt for Henderson over Milner for example.. And Milner scores a brace, and you have to watch in pain 😉

      Match of the Day challenge?

Yeah I do this a couple of times a season usually. In fact I'm at work first day of the season so might do it for the opener. That will be tough!

        Yes!
Should be fun for both of us then!
Problem with the GW1 is usually we will have tinkered so much, we won't just be watching our 15 man squad, we'll be watching in agony the players we left out 😉

Asking that question after the match today means most will say Ozil. (Walcott seemingly unimpressive, taken off etc). This situation always happens after match days - very few posters will recommend the player who failed to score/assist or conceded.
