Scout Picks

The Scout Picks Squad – Gameweek 3

This season, we’re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.

For Gameweek 3, here’s our current thinking…

Goalkeepers

Having served his one-match suspension, Thibaut Courtois (5.4) comes back onto our radar as Chelsea look to bounce back against a West Brom side that’s yet to net this term. With David de Gea sidelined amid speculation on his future, Sergio Romero (5.1) targets a third consecutive clean sheet when Newcastle United pay visit. In the budget bracket, Palace’s Alex McCarthy (4.0) is pitted against an Aston Villa outfit that’s racked up the second-least attempts inside the box (seven).

Defenders

Manchester United’s back-to-back clean sheets encourage us to invest in their steady rearguard. Matteo Darmian (5.6) presents the strongest cast for inclusion, having notched two bonus points in both matches.

Joel Ward (4.5) bagged his second ever Premier League goal in the Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal. Among the league’s full roster of defenders, the Palace centre-back ranks fourth for penalty box touches (six) and second for goal attempts (three) this term, underlining his enhanced goal threat.

Notwithstanding the threat of rotation now Gael Clichy’s returned to the bench, Aleksandar Kolarov’s (5.5) marauding wing play could well harvest attacking returns when the Sky Blues visit Goodison Park. Aside from boasting a share of set-piece duty, the Serbian full-back has executed four more key passes (seven) than any defender this campaign.

Swansea’s attacking contingent are understandably garnering the bulk of the plaudits for their fast start, yet Ashley Williams’ (5.0) contribution shouldn’t be ignored. The imposing Welshman scooped all three bonus points last time out and will fancy his chances of rebuffing Sunderland’s lacklustre forward line.

Aaron Creswell (5.5) retains a spot in our Scout Picks by virtue of West Ham’s favourable home tie against Bournemouth. The Cherries failed to net in the opening two Gameweeks, increasing our faith in the Hammers’ back line.

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez looked in ominous form against Palace – tallying more attempts inside the box (six) than any midfielder in Gameweek 2 – which bodes well for the Gunners’ home clash against Liverpool. Elsewhere in London, Yohan Cabaye (6.6) reiterated his Fantasy potential with a 10-point haul in Gameweek 1 and will be looking to pull the strings when the Villains come to town, while Dimitri Payet (7.6) should find pockets of space between Bournemouth’s banks of four.

David Silva (10.0) is more than justifying his top-tier price tag in these early stages, having bagged three assists in two starts. Everton will certainly do well to stymie the twinkle-toed Spaniard’s captivating start to the campaign. Conversely, Sadio Mane (8.0) has yet to set alight but should cause all sorts of problems for Watford’s new-look defence.

With three goals to his name already this season, Riyad Mahrez (5.7) could enjoy further success against Tottenahm’s mistake-laden rearguard. Meanwhile, Andre Ayew (7.1)  seeks a third strike in as many starts as the Swans roll up to the Stadium of Light.

Juan Mata (8.5) has piqued our interested as a mid-priced differential, given that the Spain international recorded nine points against Villa and could be the chief architect of the Magpies’ downfall. Nathan Redmond (5.5) clearly has his shooting boots on in the wake of back-to-back goals on the Canaries’ return to the Premier League.

Forwards

Sergio Aguero (13.1) tested the nerve of all non-owners on his return to the starting line-up last Gameweek. Aside from gracing the scoresheet, last season’s Golden Boot victor fashioned a wealth of shooting opportunities (seven) against Chelsea’s typically resilient back four, auguring another strong display against everton.

A home fixture against Newcastle United presents Wayne Rooney (10.5) with the perfect platform to kick-start his season. On a similar note, Diafro Sakho (6.5) possesses the pace and movement to trouble Bournemouth’s defence.

Troy Deeney (5.5) looks the pick of the promoted forwards this Gameweek, as Watford welcome Southampton to Vicarage Road. The Saints shipped five goals in their opening two clashes, with the Hornets lone frontman primed to capitalise on their defensive vulnerabilities.

Bafetimbi Gomis (7.1) looks to have filled the void left upon Wilfried Bony’s departure; the in-form marksman will doubtless be licking his lips as he prepares to face off against a Black Cats defence that’s been breached seven times already.

Community Champion

For the second week in a row the Community Champion beat the Scout Picks. Gameweek 2 Champion Daniel Levy – Not the Spurs Chairman racked up an impressive tally of 52 thanks to Liverpool’s Christian Benteke. The Scouts’ faith in Wayne Rooney proved their undoing, with their Gameweek 2 picks mustering just 44 points.

The community member who beats the Scout Picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season. Gameweek 1 Champion Fuzzy Warble beat us by a 12-point margin and remains the champion to beat.

Patch has been named Gameweek 3 Community Champion following this week’s lottery.

Having a hard time with my front 7 this weekend. Would appreciate any thoughts! Thinking of benching Mane due to midweek game.. but I really feel like he is due this weekend. Dumb to play all-out attack thingy?

    Mane, Cazorla, Mahrez, Ayew, Cabaye
    Aguero, Kane, Sakho

Pick one to sit? Thanks so much

Play the odds, bench Ayew, never been prolific, surely he can't make it 3/3 and surely Sunderland won;t get hammered again for another game or two.

      If not, bench Cazorla.

Got a good feeling about Mane this weekend. I'd sit Cabaye, Villa have been very strong at the back so far

I don't know how to use it yet basically. It isn't ideal for DGW, so I'm saving for injuries? And won't I want to play it each week with a front 7 like that?

Please, help a brother out here 🙁

    #Current Team
    Rudland

    Huth - Cedric - Jenkinson - Richards - Francis

Yaya Touré - Maharez - Payet - Mané - Bentaleb

    Agüero - Kane - Pellé

3.0m ITB and already -4 for next week

    Current Rank: ~2.6m with 58 points 🙁

#Long term plan was#: Rank up enough points with a front heavy team with decent rotation at the back till at, best case, GW11,12 or 13 before WC and then shift funds to the back. Otherwise take it at one of the international breaks.

#Short term was/is#: to change Mané to Sanchez next game week for 1FT.

    #The Problem#
Mané will most certainly go down before next week, witch stops me from my Sanchez swap. Also bentaleb and francis risks going down this week.

What do I do? I don't feel that my team really are that bad except from front heavy. Decent fixtures, have a few of the value building players and still decent rotating fixtures on my defenders.

Do Mané -> Sanchez to day with another -4 totalling -8 this week?
Just swallow my pride and hit the WC-button, rebuild defence now and build team value now?

    What would you do?

I wouldn't WC that team. Just continue without Alexis for another couple of weeks. Mane may drop but he may also do very well.

        Thanks for the input.
I do feel the same, really like having Mané in my team. But would not like to be without Sanchez atm. He is really kicking it atm. And wont sit with 3.0m ITB, so will be locking up the funds elsewhere if I don't take the chance now?

Thx again, I think I'm just are having a bad day up here in the cold north.
Checking my fixtures again, and until Saints goes in to a tough period. My hole team is in a really good position opposition wise.
And this Gameweek and the next looks particularly good tbh.

So will hold my WC, worst case I'll have to downgrade Pelle or Kane next week to get in Sanchez and take a hit then instead.

Think I'm just a little bit stressed about all the price changes occurring right now, and saw the benefit of changing out the players going down now, and taking them back in at a cut price on Saturday, and fix my defence at the same time. This in combination of being to far back behind so early. But that might just be to short term from my part.

The risk of taking in to many in forms that might drop soon might be to big and very hard to fix later.

Tough situation, IMO take the -8 and get Sanchez in now. WC is more important then 8 points. Francis and Bentaleb may not drop and if they do so what... worse things happen in fpl

Like Gomis in the field and his stats, but think the Swans has pretty tough fixtures ahead. And Kane could breake it loose soon. But yeah, without Mané I'm a little bit punt-less.

        Thank you for your input.

Would be nice with a write-up with a little more info on the statistics weighted in on the ICT index. For example if it takes in account on goals and assists also, or just crated chances and scoring opportunities (bid difference).

        ICT = (Influence + Creativity + Threat)/ 10 , I think. You can do the rest.

Nice, thank you, checked it out. And it adds up.

But cannot see whether for example ICT Threat includes Goals or not (which I don't think it does).

So for example, Sanchez is ahead of Mahrez right now with, with 179 ICT Threat against Mahrez 143.

And with Mahrez 3 goals against Sanchez 0 it makes sense that threat "just" takes likelihood to score points in the future based on involvment, and not history of goals.

you're right, they didnt effect them last year. I dont think they are this year either
However, something has changed in the algorithm as it certainly wasnt this dynamic. Or maybe its just because so many people got it wrong this year at the beginning.

they didn't and pretty sure they don't this year - lots of wildcards played this week and you'd expect more rises looking at some of the transfers in and out - hazard hasn't even dropped yet. I think most people are only getting him out with a wildcard

this looks strong, I like it - although I think payet/mahrez/gomis/diouf will all have off days so you're asking a lot of man city and sanchez each week

      defence is very strong

Cheers - good points. I think Bilic is building around Payet, so will be key for them throughout but certainly Gomis and Diouf are picks on current form. Had Benteke instead of Diouf, bug not sure the extra £2m is justified, when it allows Kompany and double Utd in defence.

Agreed Colonel - had Hazard in there all week, but just can't consider him on current form at that price. Would have the option of Shaw > Williams to finance Sanchez > Haz the minor his form improves.

grateful for some comments on my WC RMT please lads

    Schemical/Schwarzer
    Azpi Kolarov Darmian (Gomes, Richards)
    Silva Ozil Mahrez Eriksen Shaqiri
    Kun Gomes (Deeney)

only thing I'm not sure about is upgrading shaqiri to payet and putting gomes down to a 4m defender

but I do like a punt...

      1, 0
      0.5, 0.5, 1, 0.5, 0.5
      1, 0.5, 1, 1, 0.5
      1, 1, 0.5

I give it 10.5/15. Overall I would rate it a C+, OK, not great. As a result, we will not destroy your planet. But neither will we provide you with our recipe for immortality.

Don't think chelsea defence represents value atm, Cech is playing poorly, Terry is on the way out, conceded an awful lot of shots in the box.

I think Kolarov will end in tears, Clichy has made the bench so rotation is inevitable.

Gomez has looked good but he is a punt, moreno played well so again a rotation risk.

Richards looks ok value but I just can't get excited about a villa defender.

I'd maybe downgrade Azpi to Skrtel and swap out Gomez for Francis (when he drops) - saves you ~0.7 M. Then I'd get rid of Shaquiri (don't think he's value for 7.0), get a cheaper fifth mid, and upgrade Ozil to Sanchez.

Is good time use WC? Biggest concern is team value. This week my team fallers are Panti, Ivan, Hazard, Francis, Ritchie. Perhaps even more Kos.

    Currently team
    Panti
    Williams, Kos, Ivan
    Ritchie, Özil, Hazard, Ayew
    Deeney,Aguero,Benteke

    McCarthy/Mutch, Francis, Oxford.

    WC team could be

    Butland
    Williams, Kompany, Darmian,
Sanchez, Silva, Ayew, Payet (or Mane 7.9m)
    Aguero, Diouf, Deeney

    McCarthy, Ward, Richards, Mutch
    itb 0.5m

Tomorrow I can take back Francis 4.4m.

it's a strange one... the season is two games old and it's hard to make a case that

kompany, darmian, sanchez, payet and diouf are better than
ivan, kos, ozil, ritchie and benteke

worth a wild card? probably just because of so many price drops, but be careful what you wish for

benteke is just a miles better option than diouf

Many price drops but must think tonight what is best way kee currently team or use wc.

Also can keep Benteke+6.6m mid. Btw Ritchie looked good yesterday.

Lots of mutterings on Cardiff forums and some media that the WBA deal for Marshall may be dead - if Myhill stays on till Foster is back he's excellent value. Might chance going with Myhill/Butland.

Have a benching dilemma. Any help will be much appreciated 🙂

    ------------------------------- Butland (nor) ------------------------------

--------- Kolarov (eve) | Jenko (BOU) | Darmian (NEW) ---------

    --- Sanchez (LIV) | Chadli (lei) | Payet (BOU) (C) | Mane (wat) ----

--------- Sakho (BOU) | Aguero (eve) | Bafetimbi (sun) ----------

    (Myhill - Albrighton - Muniesa - Gomez)

    A) Leave the team how it is
    B) Play Albrighton and bench _____
    C) Use AOA Chip and bench _____

    Thanks in advance guys

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GW2 RESULTS

The first SPC gameweek of the year, and the first set of results! Hope you're all ready for the rollercoaster ride of the season!

    Important information: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/10907802
(Incase you missed it in the weekend madness)

***** SCORES ON THE BOARD *****

It's been a funny gameweek, and the fun is just beginning here.

    With our brand new scoring scheme, here are the results of GW2;

    1st - Mr Robot (65pts) [3pts]
    Top 4% - Balders (64pts), Anuth (63pts) [2pts]
    Top 10% - Dusan Citizen (62pts), Innsie (59pts), The Wayfarer (58pts), Krzys (56pts), Skodaole2, Prophet, Too Many Tacos (55pts)

Unfortunately, The Asian Pele, Runci, MB10 and GunsnRose all missed out by a single point!

The following people were in the scoring but unfortunately had illegal teams; Gussy, Kalmoffit and RSpeck87.

    The Scout Picks had a bit of a shocker this gameweek, with the Picks + Differentials only hitting 57 points! Thus the following receive an additional bonus point;

Mr Robot, Balders, Anuth, Dusan Citizen, Innsie and The Wayfarer!

    Well played everyone, and as you can imagine the rankings are as follows;

    1st - Mr Robot (4pts)
    2nd - Balders, Anuth (3pts)
3rd - Dusan Citizen, Innsie, The Wayfarer (2pts)

All to play for, very early days indeed! Until the next time.
