The Weekend Team News

Christian Eriksen remains sidelined for Tottenham’s home clash with Everton. Arsene Wenger has central defensive concerns ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle, Diafra Sakho is expected to overcome a groin problem for the Hammers, whilst Palace receive mixed injury news in midfield ahead of their visit to the Bridge.

Arsene Wenger could be without both his first choice centre-backs once again at Newcastle this weekend. Per Mertesacker is still sick, while Laurent Koscielny will be assessed later today – the former is less likely to be fit, according to the Gunners boss. Danny Welbeck is progressing well following his knee injury and could return after the international break.

Diafra Sakho looks likely to overcome a groin problem in time to face Liverpool, according to Slaven Bilic. Elsewhere, Kevin Nolan has left the Hammers by mutual consent.

Brendan Galloway remains a doubt for Everton after being forced off with a knee problem last weekend. Roberto Martinez has also confirmed that John Stones “will be ready” to face Spurs, despite Chelsea’s ongoing interest.

Mile Jedinak suffered a hamstring injury in the midweek Capital one Cup clash, and will be out of action for two to three weeks, suggests Alan Pardew. Meanwhile Pardew has revealed that Yannick Bolasie will return to the Palace squad this weekend, following the death of his father last week. Connor Wickham could return from a rib injury, though Julian Speroni remains out and is expected to return to full training next week.

Watford have no fresh injury worries but will be without summer signing Miguel Britos, who is set to serve a three-match ban for violent conduct after being sent off in the Capital One Cup earlier this week.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Christian Eriksen remains sidelined with a knee injury. Andros Townsend is back in training however, and could be available. Pochettino has also admitted it’s unlikely that he’ll start new boy Clinton Njie due to fitness reasons, whilst the Spurs boss confirmed that Danny Rose – who has yet to start a league match – is now fully fit after sustaining a problem against Real Madrid during pre-season.

Norwich boss Alex Neil has stated that the club have suspended forward Lewis Grabban until next Tuesday, due to disciplinary reasons. Martin Olsson is expected to step up his recovery with a run out for the U21’s today.

Sadio Mane looks set to be available for Southampton’s clash with Norwich. The Senegal international recovered from a hip injury sustained at the weekend and was an unused sub in last night’s Europa League loss to FC Midtylland.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Thanks 🙂

    1. Honeyman07 42
      • 9 Years

Olsson shouldn't affect Whittaker as Whitts plays RB and Olsson plays LB. However we are after a new CB which would probably lead to Martin going back to RB. Also we have Wisdom so there is a rotation risk, however if it is working Neil rarely seems to change it so if he keeps playing well he should stay in the team.

    http://www.espnfc.com/club/manchester-city/382/blog/post/2583788/sergio-aguero-manchester-city-premier-league

I know he's been injured a lot, but it is odd that Aguero has never been in the PFA Team of the Year, and was beaten to YPOTY by Kyle Walker! Aguero scored 23 goals that season!

79 goals in 122 games, 26 in the league last season, it really is a glaring omission. I think he was actually better than Hazard last season, in a team that wasn't as good.

Premier league players are jealous of south americans, apart from suarez of course who comes across as a charming fellow

Coloccini, Suarez, Zabaleta, Sanchez and Coutinho have been featured in that time so I'm not sure that theory holds up.

But he will always be remembered for 'that goal' in one of the most memorable moments of the PL, ever.

Of course (and Aguero will be remembered for much more than just that goal), but why on earth did Walker win that award? This isn't just hindsight, Aguero was dynamite that year and he won his team the bloody title!

OK, just did Mane to Sanchez for a hit - @ Doolittle, Doosra & Lucy, I am so gonna troll you guys if mane scores ;P

    Schmeichel - (Fabianski)
    Bellerin - Darmian - Francis - (Coates - Burke)
    Ozil - Sanchez (C) - Silva - Mahrez - (Morrison)
    Aguero (V) - Gomis - Wilson

No idea if my bench is right, lots of my forwards playing against defenders....and despite my suspicion that Sunderland are gonna start tightening up, still not got enough faith in Coates.

On a wildcard. Which front 8 looks better? Any advice is much appreciated!

    Sanchez / Pedro / Yaya / Mahrez / Redmond

    Gomez / Augero / Wilson

    or

    Ozil / Coultinho / Yaya / Mahrez / Redmond

    Costa / Augero / Wilson

Is there a middle ground where you can get Benteke for Gomis but keep a big hitter or two?

Why do you have Redmond/Wilson? Just downgrade one of them to a 4.5.

Just when I thought I was finished...not having Sanchez is now messing with my head:

    a) Hazard, Depay, Azpil and Kolorov

    b) Sanchez, Pedro, Shaw and Kolorov

    c) Sanchez, Pedro, Azpil and Sagna

    d) Sanchez, Pedro and some other defensive combo costing 11.4 or less

(already have Gomez, Francis and Saylor)

    My WILDCARD Team.

    3-5-2 or 3-4-3

    BUTLAND / RUDDY
    KOLAROV / AZPILICUETA / FRANCIS / NYOM / TARGETT
    YAYA / PEDRO / COUTINHO / SHAQIRI / MAHREZ
    AGUERO / GOMIS / WILSON

£1.0 Million in the bank for future transfers,

    GK's
Cheap (£9.0), rotate well, should play every week. Minimum headache.

    DEF's
2x Expensive from top clubs i expect to keep most clean sheets with potential attacking threat
    2x Cheap that rotate well.
1x 4.0 that will most likely be on my bench as I will only play 3 at the back.

    MID's
2x Expensive from top clubs that I expect to be involved in a lot of goals.
2x mid price, playmakers for teams with good looking fixtures. Future transfers will most likely be in this bracket.
    1x Cheap points machine

    FWD's
1x Expensive, I expect to be top scorer and my most likely captain choice each week.
1x Mid price, in-form, easy to transfer in a similar price player later on or upgrade.
1x Cheap who I wont mind rotating.

... My reason for not picking Sanchez(or any Arsenal coverage) is that I think he is too expensive as the points for Arsenal will be spread among the players.

Coutinho's FPL output still doubtful, would at least wait for some points before getting him in

I would choose a specific formation, don't rotate. If you want to play 3-5-2 downgrade your 3rd striker and upgrade your mids. If you want to play 3-4-3, downgrade your 5th mids and upgrade your strikers. I also wouldn't have Targett in a WC team, he will lose his spot after one game.

You used to need to wait for Suarez v Norwich or wallcot in a meaningless game to know a hat trick is coming, now every Wilson and his dog scores them.

My money is on benteke this week for a batty.

What is the general feeling about playing two players that you have who are against each other in any given gameweek
This week I have gomis v darmian , mahrez v Francis
    And Ritchie v Schmeichel .
Do I play these defenders and cut my losses or play targett Richards and kolarov .
would be interested to know people's thoughts on this.

I guess it depends if you prefer the 'all in' option or the 'hedging my bets' option

In general I don't like to do it unless I feel the defender has attacking threat. other times it can work out to hedge your bets. I'm playing Darmian v GOmis too. I could play Morgan instead of Darmian as I have no Bournemouth attackers but I just feel there such a high possibility of Darmian getting a clean sheet - but I'm not confident enough of that to bench Gomis.

I think in your case Francis offers significant potential of an assist to play v Mahrez, I'd probably consider another gk than Schmeichel. Also I thnk Richards is a good defender to play this week full stop - great fixture.

Thanks jonty.might be worth doing a hot topic or something on it.I ve never seen it discussed on here before and it happens week in week out.I have considered gomis to benteke and then play darmian but would like two frees for next week.
        What do you reckon.

Well it makes no difference to how they play on field so pick who you think will get the most points.

    4. Dr Dream

Makes no difference. For a decent GW you need about two thirds of your players to score some pts and a good captain pick.

Your team does however have a reduced chance of a really good week.

someone you don't have scores against your defender
      sods law
but when your ML opponent has it, they get their defender and attacker scoring
