The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 7 – The Forwards

With Gameweek 7 just around the corner, our final look at our updated Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks, sees us break down the latest movements among the forwards. Anthony Martial comes straight in towards the top of our ladder after his sensational start to life at Old Trafford, while Odion Ighalo’s form for Watford brings one of this season’s surprise packages into our thoughts.

With Manchester City’s upcoming fixtures (tot, NEW, BOU, mun, NOR, avl) still very favourable, and on the back of a goal and an assist in his last two appearances in all competitions, Sergio Aguero keeps his place on top of our rankings. The Argentine, who sets us back 13.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), has failed to live up to his price tag so far this season, but it’s hard to back against last season’s top goalscorer given City’s schedule.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson netted his fifth goal of the campaign in the 2-0 win against Sunderland last time out, and while the Cherries forthcoming fixtures (sto, WAT, mci, TOT, sot, NEW) offer some tricky match-ups, particularly on the road, it’s hard to argue against the value offered by the 6.0-priced forward. The former Coventry striker now has an ownership of 29.9% in FPL.

Another riser this week is Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, who scored for the third consecutive match in the 2-2 draw against Stoke. The England international has now only failed to produce attacking points in one of his six appearances this season, and with the Foxes fixture list (ARS, nor, sot, CPL, wba, WAT) still pretty reasonable, the 6.2-valued frontman should continue to offer excellent value.

Few Fantasy managers could have predicted the instant impact Anthony Martial would make in English football. The former Monaco forward has scored three goals in his two league appearances, and also found the back of the net in a 20-minute cameo appearance against Ipswich last night. While he has only registered four goal attempts in his two outings, and five penalty box touches, the France international looks to have incredible poise in front of goal, and despite some mixed fixtures for Man United over the coming period, it’s no surprise that he’s been transferred in by over 454,000 FPL bosses so far this week, seeing his price rise to 8.3. The 19-year-old also leads this week’s Captain Poll ahead of the plum home fixture against Sunderland with 32% of the vote.

Having failed to produce attacking returns over the last two Gameweeks, Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis falls a couple of spots on our ladder. The 7.4-rated did manage six goal attempts over the same period, however, and still looks a solid option with the Welsh outfit facing a reasonable stretch in their schedule (sot, TOT, STO, avl, ARS, nor) over the next six Gameweeks. The former Lyon hitman has clearly been one of the main fall guys for the Martial bandwagon, though, with 94,000+ shedding the France international so far this week.

Following his brace against Newcastle, Watford’s Odion Ighalo is now amazingly the second highest scoring forward in FPL this season with 34 points. The Hornets striker, who carries a bargain price tag of 5.1 in FPL, lies joint-second among forwards over the last two Gameweeks for goal attempts (eight), and has a strong run of fixtures (CPL, bou, ARS, sto, WHM, lei) over the next month to continue his rich vein of form. The Nigeria international’s ownership still stands at just 4.0% in FPL.

Third on the list of the highest scoring forwards is Southampton’s Graziano Pelle, and the Italian is another riser in our latest update on the back of his 13-point haul against Man United. The 7.9-priced striker does have a slight foot injury to contend with at the moment, but provided he can shake that off, the upcoming fixtures for the Saints (SWA, che, LEI, liv, BOU, sun) are generally pretty favourable.

According to our Season Ticker, West Ham have the most favourable fixtures (NOR, sun, cpl, CHE, wat, EVE) over the next six Gameweeks, so Diafra Sakho remains a great option for Fantasy managers in the mid-price bracket. The 6.5-valued forward scored his second goal of the season in the Hammers impressive 2-1 win at the Etihad, although the fact he hasn’t scored in any of the favourable home match-ups against Leicester, Bournemouth and Newcastle is a slight concern.

By virtue of West Brom’s kind run of fixtures (EVE, cpl, SUN, nor, LEI) over the coming weeks, Salomon Rondon remains in our thoughts despite blanking over the last two Gameweeks. With an ownership of just 0.9% in FPL, the Venezuela international definitely offers a great option as a differential, but with the Baggies scoring just four goals so far this season, he looks a tad expensive at 7.0 compared to the likes of Wilson and Vardy, who star in more attack-minded sides.

Another forward who looks a great value option is Stoke’s Bojan, who only sets us back 5.3 in FPL. The former Barcelona attacker scored on his first start of the season in the 2-2 draw against Leicester, playing in the number ten role for the Potters. While he may still be building up his match fitness, the Spain international looks worthy of some consideration given the fixtures (BOU, avl, swa, WAT, new) Mark Hughes’ men face over the coming period.

Although he has blanked over his last four appearances, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku clings onto a place in our rankings, having attempted nine goal attempts over the last two Gameweeks, the most among forwards along with Pelle and Vardy. The Toffees forthcoming fixtures (wba, LIV, MUN, ars, SUN, whm) are still pretty testing though, so the 8.2-priced Belgian is probably unlikely to attract much investment until the schedule turns from Gameweek 11 onwards.

Harry Kane finds a place at the bottom of our refresh. Despite failing to find the net in the first six Gameweek, the Spurs hit man sits second for total attempts (21) amongst forwards so far, though clashes against City, Swansea, Liverpool and Arsenal in the next six are likely to deter most from considering his services.

Can someone prepare a obituary for Brenda his time has come

Let me just say despite all the taking the micky out of him that i have done i don't think he is a bad man or manager it is not his fault he that Liverpool are a crap club

When your club sells the likes of Suarez and Sterling what real chance do you have as a manager

I blame there daft fans personally

I wish the County Antrim man all the best in the future good luck Brenda its been emotional

What club will he end up at next?

I think Liverpool stop thinking that they are elite team of Europe now . Long runs of no trophies and the fact that they were once a top club will make it difficult for they to bury their eTheirgo. Start from scratch and develop talent . Their current squad isn't just good enough for top 4 unless they develop some chemistry.

I think Brenda has to take a huge amount of responsiblity too; constant tinkering, poor in the transfer market, bias towards poor players (e.g. Lovren) and an underlying over-confidence.

However, he has also been unlucky with the loss of Suarez and Sterling, but also injuries. Injuries have been a big factor for him.

I'm a bit hesitant in getting someone more expensive than Costa because the rest of the front 8 of mine seem to require improvement eventually. The rest of the front 8 is namely:

        Silva Redmond Ayew Mahrez Ozil
        Wilson Gomis

Would love further input to see if the extra outlay would be less risky than I thought.

Xavi became a first team regular when LVG coached the Netherlands, Iniesta after LVG's second stint at Barcelona. Schweinsteiger was an international star when LVG came to Bayern. In general, players both from Barcelona and Bayern have said that LVG's philosofee was a complete nuisance.

His "philosophy" is a joke. You can go and read his presentation for Barcelona. don't tell me it doesn't make you think of the bs that the costly hired consultants feed to your company, yielding no results in the end.

So Liverpool who had 50 shots yesterday and this will drastically increase there average shorts per game are a better attacking side??

This year EPL is totally different. All team has invested and there are no walk in the park games.Even the worst team NEW plays well against the top teams. you cant just go by the past statistics or statistics from 6 games which is a very very low sample.

One thing has been proved this season Form >> fixture. Mahrez prime example.
Martial has a great eye for goal and that lad composure in front of the goal is immaculate. he wont give a goal every week thats sure,But he his in form reap the benefit now. FPL is all about points and reaping the price raise.

On LVG i have already quoted here.If you check barca,Bayern record. During his tenure GA and GF are less compared to the predecessors, but still he won the league. 1-0 with good Possession is all he wants and that his style. Each manager has different style. we have to accept that and stop comparing current UTD to Fergi UTD whose style is completely different

OK, you can be stubborn and repeat the same thing. As I said, actual points in the table doesn't mean much for fantasy. If you win by 1-0's, with some own goals, and very few shots, it doesn't bode well for investing in that team's forwards. But have it your way 🙂

P.S. I am probably buying Martial this week.

I don't know how you translated "having it together" into "scoring goals for fun" but the fact remains that they are scoring goals and winning games.

Anomalous results happen, and in my mind I would simply count that if they did not change things drastically over summer, they would see a seriously worse season next time around.

Like Chelsea who rode a series of good results from bad performances on spring, were statistically expected to have a worse season this time. And City who massively underachieved the last time, a stronger season. If things remained relatively same. And lo and behold, things remained relatively the same, and City is getting better results and Chelsea worse.

But you can rely just on past results and have them inexplicably caused by mystical reasons that do not yield to analysis allowing predictions. Just, I wouldn't take betting tips from you.

If United close out game after game 1-0 and are leading the league at Christmas, I'll probably change my tune, but six weeks of spluttering along is not yet a team getting it together for me.

Just a note on United's supposedly tough fixtures after SUN. LvG actually has a decent record in the big games so far

ars - we won there 2-1 last year and have a decent recent record v them (bar the FA cup)

MCI - they've had the better of it in recent years but we did beat them 4-2 at OT last year and only lost 1-0 away with 10 men

eve - This one worries me, we've lost there the last 3 years at least and Everton seem to do better v the big teams (on a side note I'm going to this one)

cpl - better away from home so far, they're very attacking and that may suit the pace of Martial and Depay on the break

WBA - who knows, depends how quickly we can get a goal as Pulis will be in full on park the bus mode.

Extremely unlikely he'll get more than 60 even if he does - most likely he will get 1 point in a 20-40 minute run out after Bertrand starts and gets 50-70 minutes.

    Hi all

    Would you do:

    A) Cedric to Creswell (unsure of Cedric's game time now)
    B) Ward* to Francis
    C) Silva to Payet/KDB
    D) Gomis to Sakho
    D) Save FT.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

Bangwagons and price rises aside, who would you rather have for the next stretch of games (5 or so)... Wilson or Martial?

Neither. Pick someone with nice fixtures.

Only teams with a real cushdy run of fixtures over that time are WBA and Chelski... Not willing to risk the Remy/ Falcao thing really but could possibly be tempted by Berahino/ Rondon... but not super confidence-inspiring picks either of em haha 😉

Rondon had really good stats in the last game so he could be a good punt.

I'll see if I can check out their next game with him playing and check him out 🙂

I would prefer Martial seeing as he plays for a better team.. However they both don't have good upcoming fixtures.

Yeah I was mulling this over and just kept thinking 'if Benteke was still at Villa right now I bet he would have scored more goals this season than he has at liverpool'... and then wondering how important the team quality is (aside from getting a decent feed from midfield). Big fish in a small pond and all that

I can't wait to laud it over you all when Remy outscores Martial this weekend. 😀

Wouldn't be surprised if it did happen. Remy always seem to make chances count when they come his way.
