Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 8

Gameweek 8 saw two more players topple off the Suspension Tightrope as we head into the second international break of the season. Sunderland centre-back Sebastian Coates was the first guilty party after earning his fifth yellow of 2015/16 in the second half of yesterday’s home draw against West Ham.

Coates will now miss the Black Cats’ trip to West Brom next time out as the Wearsiders prepare for life without Dick Advocaat after the Dutchman resigned earlier today.

This afternoon, Coates was joined by Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has now been booked in five of the first eight league matches in his new central midfield role. The 10%-owned defender, who had been drafted in by over 25,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prior to today’s caution, will now miss the Gameweek 9 home encounter with Liverpool.

Despite losing those two to suspension, the Tightrope now boasts ten faces – three more than last weekend.

Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Jack Colback, Billy Jones and Dele Alli all remain on four yellows and are joined by five new entries this time round. City pair Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandinho incurred the referee’s wrath in yesterday’s 6-1 romp over Newcastle at the Etihad, whilst West Ham’s Mark Noble is another fresh recruit after collecting a yellow card in the 2-2 stalemate at Sunderland.

Oriol Romeu is also added to the mix. The midfielder picked up his fourth caution in as many league starts for Southampton against former club Chelsea yesterday – he’s managed that feat in just 371 minutes of top-flight action. Earlier today, United full-back Matteo Darmian found his way into the referee’s notebook in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

The weekend brought further woe for the Black Cats, with Jeremain Lens set to miss the Gameweek 9 trip to the Hawthorns. The Dutchman – whose goal in yesterday’s draw means he played a part in five of the Wearsiders’ eight goals under Advocaat – was dismissed after receiving cautions for fouls on Carl Jenkinson and Winston Reid either side of the half-time break against the Hammers.

In terms of newly available players, Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Watford’s Valon Behrami and Everton wide man Kevin Mirallas are all in the frame in Gameweek 9 after they served the last of three-match bans for violent conduct this weekend.

With So many good options whom do you think you need in your team but don't have the space?

Eriksen, Barkely, and Mane for me..I think they will perform well now

Hey guys - need some help from the community! Feels silly to say this after one of my best (and luckiest) weeks ever, but my team is a bit of a train wreck. I am resigned to doing at least 2 transfers, need help deciding.

GKs - Butland (away at Swans), Randolph (not playing)
DEF - Sagna (dropped), Francis (away at City), Evans (injured), Gomez (not playing), Cameron (away Swans)
MID - Memphis (may not play), Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez
FWD - Aguero, Gestede (away Chelsea), Diouf (injury doubt)

Currently thinking of moving out Memphis & Gomez for Mane & Janmaat. I would need to move before prices rise, but ideally I would want to wait & see what happens with Evans & Diouf.

Thoughts? I have also played All Out Attack already (this week and then Mahrez didnt play) so need 3 defenders next GW for sure.

I think it's related. Better use of the ball makes it easier for the team off the ball. Attacks broken down equates to a chance for the opposition to attack. Having advantage in goal scoring past a packed defences gives the team more options in how they want to manage the game.

Yep, but is he on direct free kicks and corners if Mirallas isn't playing?

I think that Mirallas changes the whole Everton equation: he hogs the ball so much that Lukaku becomes a much less attractive target.

Managerial merry go round (Klopp to Pool suddenly we all want a pool player etc) and internationals with their jetlag and injuries... Will Mane and Aguero and many others start ?????

i have 2 FT and team needs at least 3 changes (pedro/wilson - dont ask!) even after 96pts but i am going to wait this out rather than do transfers i might regret

Would like to have Mitrovic, I watched the first half against City and he looked sharp. However, it really depends on how Newcastle go with these good fixtures; also keep in mind he's a card magnet. Shifting Vardy seems a bit of a risk

I'm tempted to do Gomis to Ayoze, though I'm worried about his minutes. Feel like it's worth a punt getting a Newcastle player if you're not comfortably top in your ML.

Well hard to have both with Kun.
Kun will be captain now most of the time and Haz will get points.
I think the 3 will be the upturn or downturn in FPL fortunes in the weeks to come.
Getting Siva or KDB will be required also.
Having Payet Mahrez Mane seems a must.
There are quite a few diiferent ways of setting out sides just with my above comments.
The next 6 GW's will determine a top 10k finish or not IMO.

I genuinely feel for the people who didn't captain Aguero this week because they made the correct move. His stats were woeful, his form non existent and he looked uninterested. The only thing going for him is that he was playing Newcastle. I dont think this gameweek 8 is some major victory for the site because we went against everything the site uses to get an advantage in the game. We captained him out of stubornness, blind hope that he would become the Aguero of old or fear.

You guys made the right move, sometimes us cowards get lucky...

Sorry if this come across as negative but it is a rainy Monday morning and there is a lot of misguided back patting going on around here since Saturday.

    1. Eze Really?
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 7 months ago

Well, from sunny South Africa I have a different view. If you have a big hitter playing Newcastle he is hard to ignore. What was the captains poll? If Kun was top of the list then the so called experts were right.
It does not mean I don't understand your logic though.

      1. C-Dawgg
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

Ah to be sunny in South Aftica... If only.

I think Aguero could only have been classed as a heavy hitter on the basis that he was expensive. Not any actual hitting going on, so I guess he was just heavy?

I also think that you can see from the other popular 'stat based' captaincy choices (Payet, Vardy, Sanchez/Walcott, KDB) that they were all correct picks. Just a freak game week that stole it from them.

His captain poll numbers way exceeded his ownership. Over half of the people thought he'd be the best captain.

I don't agree with that at all. It was wise to captain Aguero at home against a dismal Newcastle defence. He didn't even need to be on form for this game. Those who go without Aguero need to learn that it can cost you big time, and at any time

      1. C-Dawgg

Ok but there were other people playing against Newcastle and most of them were much better picks before the gameweek actually started.

i would love you to elaborate on your analysis. What was it specifically that you found that made you pick Aguero?

If you actually watched Aguero you would see that it's been more of a luck thing than anything else. He scored a brace for Argentina afew weeks ago, and scoring the winning penalty in the week will have given him confidence. He terrorised the spurs defenders the week before but was unlucky, and spurs defended well with numbers around him.

I just had a gut feeling about Aguero, nothing else. Captained him once this season, but not lately. Thats all it is. Didnt even care about stats, was just il do it. Was close to doing KDB (c), but gut feeling prevailed.

To clarify I am in not saying he was a bad pick, I did after all pick him. I just think people need to stop handing out genius medals and admit it was a dodgy pick that got exceptionally lucky.

I also think the people with the guts to captain someone else deserved better.

My main goal is to win my main league, i'm around 20k global.

I'm 20 points ahead of the next person in my ML.

Would you take 20 points in hits to sort out your defense? It's in a pretty dire state. Plus side i sort out my team completely and still stay first in my ML by 1 point, negative is i lose my 20 point advantage.
