Team Analysis – Assessing Klopp’s Liverpool

Our next members article of the international break assesses the impact of Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool during his first four league matches in charge at Anfield. The former Borussia Dortmund boss had enjoyed a solid start to life on Merseyside, staying unbeaten in his first six matches in charge across all competitions, before suffering a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.

Scoring goals had been as issue for Liverpool under previous manager Brendan Rodgers at the start of the season, with the Merseysiders managing just eight in as many league matches. That record has only slighted improved under the German, registering five goals in their last four matches, although they have faced fairly difficult opposition (tot, SOU, che) prior to their home loss at the hands of Palace.

With that in mind, we investigate the team data in the members section to try to establish Klopp’s impact over the first four league matches of his tenure on Merseyside.

          That's my point, there's no way i'm getting rid of KDB now that Kun is back, they've played together for just a few minutes. KDB is the best assistman in the world, he proved it last season and it's not like he had Kun or Suarez in front of him, he had Bas Dost.

            were it not for Arsenal's 4 coming fixtures I would definitely be looking at Alexis out to fund Aguero in (going to someone like Coutinho who seems to be thriving under Klopp and has nice fixtures coming up) but given all this, I feel I have to drop Kolarov to do it (provided Bellerin is back fit and starting)

            for that figure I'd want a captaincy pick

            KDB isn't it, you'll just never captain him when you have Kun. But if you have him it's definitely a tough call to sell

            I won't be buying anytime soon though

              it's tough, that's why I'm looking at selling Kolarov currently..but KDB and Sanchez were both options (though Sanchez much, much less so given their fixtures)

                I see Sanchez as more captainable than KDB as he will have different fixtures

                GW18 (SUN) are you really going to captain KDB ahead of Kun

                GW20 you may captain Kun (wat) but you may also captain Sanchez (NEW)

                  The captaincy argument has validity, but it's not absolute. Points are points in the end. Hazard was rarely an explosive player but a captain option because he was a regular points scorer (even if it was only an assist) and safe choice.

                  The better comparison would be, will I get more points with KDB and a cheaper defender (Kola out) or will I get more points with Coutinho (for example) and Kolarov (which I'm considering).

                    But again, KDB plays for the same team as Kun but I guess it's the same principle as having Costa and Hazard last season

                    for me, I don't own KDB and so, with Kun on the way back I won't be rushing to own him

                    Got eyes on Kane, Lukaku, Kun strikeforce in a few weeks so he's not a high priority as those 3 + Sanchez ties up an awful lot of cash

            Unless you intend to start Alli on a semi-regular basis INSTEAD of using him as an emergency backup to someone in your 343 not playing, do not get an expensive 5th. You'll find you would have preferred to have the extra 0.6m-0.8m to work with.

                  a) Pellè --> Agüero.
                  b) Pellè --> Kane.
                  c) Ighalo --> Kane.
                  d) Save.

                  a was always the plan.
                  b gives me another week until a, or a -8 for Agüero.
                  c looks best for maximising points this week, with a -4 for Agüero.
                  d is sensible.
