Premier Punt – Gameweek 13

It’s time for us to take a Friday dinnertime check over the Premier Punt game now ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Read on as I reveal my plans for the upcoming round of fixtures…

This Week’s Games

There are three big guaranteed pots in Premier Punt this week.

The largest contest is a £350 game for a £5 buy-in – this one still currently has some overlay and up to three line-ups can be entered. There’s also a £100 pot for a £10 fee and a £200 contest for £20.

We arrive back from the international break with a fixture slate that could potentially aid our team selection. Everton and Crystal Palace entertain bottom two Villa and Sunderland respectively and therefore look primed for investment, with the low-to-mid-priced players from those teams helping to create a balanced squad.

Elsewhere, Tottenham host West Ham and have shown promising form at both ends of the pitch recently. Arsenal, the best away team in the league in terms of goals scored, travel to the top-flight’s worst home defence, West Brom. Finally, Chelsea will look upon a home encounter with Norwich as a good chance to secure their first points in four matches.

My Team

We start at Selhurst Park, with the visit of a Sunderland side that have blanked in three of their last four on the road. Wayne Hennessy is first on the team sheet at only 5.6m and I go for a double-up with Joel Ward (6.3m), as I expect him to return to the starting XI after being benched at Anfield last time out. Scott Dann (7.8m) is the prevailing popular pick from the Eagles backline but Ward is cheaper and also has two goals this season.

I’ve gone with two more attacking full-backs to complete the defence. Danny Rose (7.8m) has notched an assist in each of Spurs’ last three, while Ryan Bertrand (7.8m) has served up an assist in each of the previous two ahead of Southampton’s home encounter with Stoke.

Mesut Ozil (11.8m) is the first pick in midfield, having produced eight assists in the last six matches. Yannick Bolasie (7.7m) also finds a spot after scoring twice over the break and netting at Anfield in Palace’s last league outing. I’ve gone with the reliable Riyad Mahrez (8.5m) against Newcastle – with doubts over Jamie Vardy, the Algerian has to be included. After picking my forward line I’m 0.3 short of getting Willian (10.2m) as the final midfielder, so settle for Dele Alli (7.7m) instead after his midweek strike for England against France.

Up front, I invest in Harry Kane – after five goals in three the Spur’s frontman has clearly found the form that eluded him earlier in the season. Romelu Lukaku (11.7m) has five goals and three assists in six matches for the Toffees and has formed a potent partnership with Gerard Deulofeu (9.4m), who takes the last berth after supplying six assists in as many matches.

The Bottom Line

It wasn’t the best week for me, with 45 points the highest score from my three weekly line-ups, which was only enough to reach 18th in the main £250 pot. Dusan Tadic was my highest scoring player with eight points, though if I had captained the Serbian instead of Riyad Mahrez, I would have been firmly in the money places.

Congratulations go to Dave Thomas, who grabbed top spot with 55 points – a five-man midfield with Yannick Bolasie, Philippe Coutinho and Georginio Wijnaldum clinching him just under £90. I remain upbeat, however, as I won’t win every week and still have a healthy pot of £215.34.

This Week’s Stake
Three line-ups go automatically into the £350 pot, while I will consider those bigger entry fee games on Saturday morning and also enter a team into the £2 weekly game. There’s some action in the single games, so I put a team into the Watford versus Man United Saturday lunchtime contest for another £2.

Stake – £19
Current Balance – £196.34

If you would like to take me on in the £250 guaranteed pot or try out PremierPunt’s unique single fixtures game sign up here.

    Whats changed for Ozil?

He has had quite a bit of football in the premier league so far and its clear thats he's totally out performing his previous 2 seasons with Arsenal.

Is this just a purple patch or something more permanent?
Can we expect Ozil to match Sanchez's output by the end of the season?

so you think this is permanent and we can expect him to match or outscore Sanchez this season?

Adapting to the league, injuries, playing out of position (he was forced out wide quite a bit). Could easily get 20 assists this season.

so you think whats changed is that the team structure now suites him better?

I've been watching his body language...He's plainly enjoying himself far more than the previous two seasons...I've always felt he was struggling to adapt to living here tbh, he looked thoroughly miserable at times.

Why do I keep having these FPL related dreams? At the start of the season I dreamt Flamini would be top scorer by Christmas, and a few nights ago that Lingard would go on an amazing Mahrez-esque scoring run. Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me to stop being such a dullard and make more maverick decisions.

I see all kind of plans bandied about.

                  People say he won't start.

People say he will take time to get going.

If he starts and scores there will be knocking each over like Black Friday to buy Aguero.

                    for me it's simple

Ozil to 4.9 or less mid and Ighalo to Kun.

                That's what I mean

as soon as he scores he'll start to go up and I'll have to react. Simply stated that I'll have him GW17 regardless of whether I have him before

I'm going Delaney. A Watford supporter's perspective on Ake would be good. He isn't a natural left back but took over from Anya who moved further forward when Jurado was injured (who's now back). They have rubbish Christmas fixtures anyway so I'm a bit put off by that

So true, but it's not random. Arsenal should batter them. It's generally what happens when you play pulis football against world class attackers. Effective against most of the league though

If there's one team to do it, it's them

        Kinda is yes!

I'm 1% bitter since I sold Butland for Myhill before the baps started but what ya gona do!

I see Aguero is fit now, wonder if I should take the hits this week to make it happen

It could pay off handsomely, or absolutely awfully.

    Is this deemed sensible:

If Vardy is fot he will start, he wont come on for cameo. Therefore putting the armband on him with Lukaku at VC will mitigate the risk of this cameo.

If he's tried from the start plenty of time for him to pull up and you will have a 2pt captain.

Agreed, but will he be in that situation? CR has said if he is not fit he wont play him as he wont risk a pkayer for being out for a month for the sake of a game.

Fellow Fantasy Football Freaks... Pls lend me your ears.

Decided to bring in Kun Aguero next week and just gonna do Payet to DFeo this week.

Avoid a hit and tbh a can't see him starting anyway ?

I think he'll start but whether he lasts 9 mins is debatable.

You can probably get by without him this weekend but I think from next week you'll want him and he's going to start going up in price again then.

I wouldn't leave it beyond next week as he'll be back to £13.3m by then.

Captain Lukaku or Vardy? If Vardy were fit it would be him for sure.

Comes down to who is most likely to troll me...a half injured player or Lukaku.

Did anyone avoid/sell a cheap kane last season thinking he wouldnt keep it up and then make the same mistake with Vardy this season?

It happens every year. The trick to keeping hold of the cheapies is to imagine what price they might be next season...
So show it's too easy to take comfort in price rises and the more expensive players instead of looking at shots in the box etc...

      Aguero (13.0) Vardy (9.0) Ighalo (7.5)
