The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 14

Our Wednesday Weekly Shop regular is rolled out this evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manuel Pellegrini will be looking closely at his defence after the 4-1 rout against Liverpool. Joe Hart (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.8m) was the only member of the backline to shine, making six saves to keep the score relatively respectable, though with Nicolas Otamendi surely set to return and Vincent Kompany edging towards a comeback, City could be a little more resolute this time around, given that visitors Southampton are missing top scorer Graziano Pelle due to suspension.

Despite his defensive lapse leading to Jermain Defoe’s winning goal on Monday night, . Scott Dann (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.8m) remains capable of picking up points at both ends of the pitch. Opponents Newcastle visit Selhurst Park having scored just twice on the road in six outings, making a double-up with Wayne Hennessey (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 5.5m) a viable tactic as Alan Pardew looks to get one over his former club.

Philippe Coutinho (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 11.8m) has four goals and an assist in Liverpool’s last three matches, demonstrating Jurgen Klopp’s positive influence on the Brazilian. If fit, a home tie against a Swansea side that have been lacklustre in recent weeks offers a chance to add to that record, particularly when there are signs that the Brazilian is striking up a highly effective partnership with compatriot Roberto Firmino (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt, Forward 11.5m) for the Merseysiders.

Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have all been in excellent form of late, which has somewhat kept Olivier Giroud’s (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 12.3m) recent exploits off the radar. The Frenchman has four goals in five league matches for Arsenal and, given that he has scored in four consecutive away outings, a visit to Norwich makes the Gunners striker a differential worth considering.

Poundstretchers

After an inauspicious start to the season, Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 6.8m) now has a formidable five shut-outs in six appearances for Stoke. The keeper travels to a Sunderland side struggling to find an attacking edge in front of their own fans – the Wearsiders have managed only 58 attempts at home so far, the joint worst record in the league. Only Costel Pantilimon (54) has made more saves than the Potters’ number one (51), so a goalless draw would not be a surprise here.

Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.5m) offers a secure route into the Liverpool backline as they welcome a Swansea team that have failed to net in three of their last five – only Aston Villa (22) have had less than the Swans 23 shots in the box over that run. As highlighted in the Scout Squad article, the left-back is providing promising numbers, with his frequency of key passes (one every 40 minutes) the best in the league for defenders.

Yohan Cabaye (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m) and Yannick Bolasie (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) may have blanked against Sunderland but they still look to be worth investment against Newcastle at those prices – Palace fired 19 attempts last Monday and were unlucky not to find the net. Another budget midfield option with a potentially profitable home fixture is Manuel Lanzini (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m). The Argentine’s consolation at Spurs took his tally to three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of a home encounter with West Brom.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.4m) is the stand out striker in the budget category this week. The Nigerian travels to Aston Villa with seven goals and three assists to his name already and is heavily involved in most of the Hornets’ attacking play. Given that Villa have conceded 11 times in their last five outings, Ighalo looks a likely source of points once again.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Given that Sanchez’s recent downturn in form has seemed to coincide with Giroud’s string of starts, I dug through the game logs to see if there's a significant difference in Sanchez’s fantasy output between when he plays with and without Giroud.

Since the start of last season in all competitions, Sanchez has played almost 2800 minutes with Giroud on the pitch and just under 3100 minutes without him, so we have fairly large sample sizes.

During that time, Sanchez has averaged a goal every 134 minutes that he’s played without Giroud, but only one goal every 253 minutes with him.

This season, the difference has been even more dramatic. Despite playing over 100 minutes more with Giroud than without him (815 vs 704), his first strike against Dinamo Zagreb this week was only his second goal with Giroud on the pitch (Giroud was subbed off before Sanchez’s second goal), while he’s scored 7 goals without him. That works out to a goal every 408 minutes with Giroud and a goal every 101 minutes without him.

I thought there was a chance that Sanchez might make up for the reduced goal totals with more assists with Grioud, but that didn’t prove to be the case. While the difference is minimal, Sanchez’s rate of assists has actually been slightly better without Giroud than with him (1 every 343 minutes without vs 1 every 398 min with him since the start of last season).

    B) Play Sinclair (WAT)

    Who to bench this GW?

    A. Ayew - Liv home form poor, but they have tightened up in more recent games
    B. Mane - Mci defense in shambles, but can SOT score?
    C. Mahrez - Mun with strongest defense but maybe scarred from last year's 5-3?

    THE AGUERO VS KANE TOPIC:
Since I found no hot topic-surprisingly- about this, and I've been away all week. Let's all get out our pros and cons here.
    -Fixtures and explosion-ability:
Aguero:SOT, sto, SWA, ars, SUN, lei, wat
Kane:CHE, wba, NEW, sot, NOR, wat, eve
Kane has a slight advantage, but imo NEW and NOR are the only matches where we can see an explosion, Aguero has SWA, SUN, lei.... Both players has the ability to explode even in tough fixtures, but I think Aguero still has more explosion-ability on his day
    -Form:
Kane wins this, he's in a far better form, but I think that throughout the years we learnt that aguero could pick himslef up and score a hat-trick anytime
    -Caliber:
Aguero has way more class than Kane, imo there is no comparison, Aguero is simply on another level
    - Team form:
Tottenham are in better form right now, city's form is declining and spurs are on the up
    - Lone striker?
The chance of harry kane being involved in a tottenham goal is greater than aguero imo, in city u have sterling, kdb and somethimes even Bony and yaya
    - Price
3.5 difference, but with Mahrez and Vardy still nailed, and me being not a fan of the 5th mid, maybe the 3.5m won't be the deciding factor after all
    -Overall:
I think it's so close, I can't take a decision on it and I'm even thinking of saving FT and not taking a hit as my third striker Diouf has sunderland next

barring injury Kane is a keeper for me now he's rediscovered his form.
      1. Fixtures are good all the way until the end of Feb.
      2. He can score against anyone. also he's not overly reliant on any particular player for assists etc. and can perform against side.
      3. Guaranteed starter and unlikely to be subbed.
      4. pretty consistent performer and doesn't tend to go missing. saw a stat somewhere that he's averaging 10km a game.

    Mignolet
    Bellerin,Rojo,Moreno
    Sanchez,Özil,KDB,Barkley
    Aguero,Lukaku,Vardy

    McCarthy,Cedric,Drinkwater,Simpson

    Want - Spurs defender, Kane,

    Plan 1. Week 15 - KDB + Vardy > Mahrez + Kane -4
This leaves me 1.2m itb . Room to upgrade Cedric > Toby maybe

    Plan 2. Week 15- Cedric > Wollcihied
    Week 16- KDB + Vardy > Coutinho + Kane -4

I'm thinking of getting Sanchez for arsenals decent fixture run, I currently have no arsenal cover. Payet is stinking up my team and needs to go. Ozil is the consistent option but Sanchez could prove explosive over this period, do we think he will play all of the easier looking fixtures or do we think he will get rested?

Very Very nice. Mingolet and Coleman are different, doesnt make them wrong though.

I do see value in Moreno though over Ming to get into Lpool defense.

Coleman to Moreno and Ming to Howard? Saves some cash too? Or leave it!

Don't get Mignolet. Trust me I've had him all season. He just disappoints.
I'm only keeping him cos of the good fix coming up.

Duelofeu is getting the bal from Coleman down the right, consequently he is not getting forward as much. He can be kept because of his good fix but I'd consider downgrading to someone like Moreno for his attacking threat and using the spare cash to do Migs > DDG.

      1. DannyBoy....
        • 9 Years

You don't think the fixtures are enough to warrant getting Migs ?

He could be. For 5m he has disappointed so much so far. I still have him but only because I need to make other transfers. I have Moreno as well.

Has good fix but I think Moreno offers more value.
I'd rather have DDG+Moreno over Mignolet + Coleman. They could work but I'm not convinced.

Hi all, Im pondering this team in two weeks time and would like to hear what people think?.

Im still struggling to ditch Vardy but feel the time might be right as it will enable me to bring in Kane.

    This will be the team;

    DDG (McCarthy)

    Bellerin Alderweireld VVD (Moreno) (Simpson)

    Sanchez Ozil Mahrez Bolasie (Anya)

    Aguero Lukaku Kane

All going well it will leave me £0.1ITB so barring drastic price changes within the next couple of weeks I should be able to do it.

    Does the team look ok?

All going well Id have it in place for next weekends fixtures?.

        Changes made would be;

        This week;
        KDB > Ozil (-4)

        Next week;
Dawson > Simpson (1FT as enables Kane)
        Vardy > Kane (-4)

        Worth it?
