Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 14

Fantasy managers anxiously await updates on Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero after both were forced off during the weekend action. Jose Mourinho hopes to welcome back a number of players for Chelsea next week, whilst Jurgen Klop expects Philippe Coutinho to return in time for Liverpool’s midweek cup clash with Southampton.

Arsenal
The Gunners are sweating over the availability of three key regulars after yesterday’s draw at Norwich. Alexis Sanchez pulled up with a hamstring problem on the hour mark at Carrow Road and subsequently limped off the pitch. Discussing the incident, Arsene Wenger admitted concerns over the severity of the injury but remained adamant about his decision to play the Chilean forward:

“He says it is a kick on his hamstring, I believe that is not really the reality. I fear it is not the reality. We checked it [Sanchez’s hamstring]. When you have normal force and normal stretch there is no problem and he had that. Nobody is scientifically developed enough to predict when a guy will be injured. I must say with all humility we are not in a position where we can predict (injuries) despite all our tests. I would have rested him today but he felt alright before the game, and he declared that he had no problem.”

Elsewhere on the Gunners’ injury front, Wenger said they’re set to assess Santi Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny in light of their fresh knocks:

“In the first half he (Cazorla) got a kick on the knee and it got worse. I don’t know if he has jaded his knee ligament or he it was just a kick on the nerve but the worrying thing was it got worse during the game. For Koscielny it was a kick on his hip and he could not move at all. We have to assess all of that.”

Bournemouth
Steve Cook and Adam Federici were replaced at half time of the Cherries’ home tie against Everton, with the former picking up a knock and the latter injuring his ankle in the opening 20 minutes. Although their first-choice shot-stopper, Artur Boruc, is also consigned to the treatment room, Eddie Howe said Bournemouth are unlikely to be permitted an emergency loan deal as 23-year-old Ryan Allsop is available for selection:

“I don’t think it is at the moment because we have a fit goalkeeper. We will wait and see, we are unsure on the length of Artur Boruc’s injury; he will be seeing a specialist this week so it doesn’t look good. Adam does not look good, it looks like he has twisted his ankle to point where it has blown up, it is really swollen so he was no good at half-time.”

Howe went on to provide an update on Harry Arter, who left the field of play 14 minutes from time with a hamstring complaint:

“Harry just felt something in his hamstring but we’re not aware how serious that is.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed the Blues’ head-to-head with Spurs to attend the birth of his child yesterday. After the goalless draw, Jose Mourinho told reporters that he expects Remy and Radamel Falcao, along with Ramires, John Terry and Thibaut Courtois to be back in action for Bournemouth’s visit next Saturday.

Everton
Roberto Martinez revealed that James McCarthy – who was withdrawn in the 68th minute at the Vitality Stadium – is a doubt for Everton’s midweek trip to Middlesbrough because of a groin problem:

“He over-extended his groin and couldn’t carry on. It’s a concern for us because he is not the kind of player who would come off for anything. We will assess him and make a decision about Tuesday.”

Earlier today, the Toffees boss also revealed that Gareth Barry is a midweek doubt after sustaining a shin problem.

Liverpool
Philippe Coutinho sat out Liverpool’s home encounter against Swansea City with the hamstring problem that forced him off at the Etihad in the previous Gameweek. According to Jurgen Klopp, though, the Brazilian should be fit for their League Cup meeting with Southampton on Wednesday:

“Philippe had a very intensive session yesterday but we decided two or three days ago that we didn’t want to risk [him] for this game. Now I think he’s fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I’ll have to talk with him tomorrow – I think he’s ready for Southampton.”

Manchester City
Sergio Aguero was substituted at the 64-minute mark of Manchester City’s home clash against Southampton because of a foot injury. Manuel Pellegini later explained that the Argentine received a kick to the heel and it was “nothing important”:

“I spoke with Sergio before the game and he was not going to play more than 60 minutes. He received a kick in his heel but it was nothing important. The reason was not to play more than 65 minutes. He has a pain in his heel. We will see tomorrow but I hope it is nothing important.”

Reports earlier today, however, suggest that an assessment has revealed that the injury is worse than initially feared, indicating that Aguero may face a race against time to be fit for the Sky Blues’ trip to Stoke next Gameweek.

Manchester United
Louis van Gaal played down the knock that forced Wayne Rooney off in the 68th minute at the King Power Stadium on Saturday:

“No, I don’t think it’s an injury to Wayne. I wanted to change one of the strikers. It could have been [Anthony] Martial or it could have been Rooney because they were not always running behind the central defenders, and I want that. Because of this, I wanted to change but then he was limping and then the choice was easy for me to make.”

The Dutchman also issued an update on the fitness of Marcos Rojo and Jesse Lingard, who both missed the Foxes clash with “minor injuries”:

“I could not play with them. Lingard was a player in good shape so it was a pity. Rojo is our left defender and that’s also a pity because then I have to put my players in a different shape and different organisation. Because of that, I had to play with three defenders.”

Southampton
Jose Fonte was replaced at the 36-minute mark of Southampton’s trip to the Etihad due to a gash in his knee. Ronald Koeman played down fears over the Portuguese centre-back’s health after the match, asserting that he was only substituted because of the length of time required to dress his wound:

“Jose is ok now. It takes too long a time to come back on the pitch and so we changed.”

Sunderland
Sam Allardyce conceded that Jermain Defoe and Sebastian Larsson are both doubts for Sunderland’s upcoming trip to Arsenal after they were withdrawn during the weekend win over Stoke:

“Larsson’s is a problem with the medial ligament in his knee. Jermain Defoe’s a hamstring. Both will be doubts for Arsenal.”

Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan Mason left White Hart Lane in a protective boot after injuring his knee in the 56th minute of the London derby. Tottenham are yet to offer an update on the Englishman’s status, with Mauricio Pochettino simply saying that he “hoped it was not a big issue”.

Watford
Heurelho Gomes was escorted to hospital to undergo scans on a neck injury following a hefty blow from Craig Cathcart’s knee. The Brazilian keeper took to Twitter later that day to confirm that he’d been given the all-clear:

“Hi everyone, thanks for the messages, really appreciate I’m much better now, my neck still very stiff, but I will be fine! On my way home! Special thanks to our medical staff, and also Villa’s medical staff for the great treatment that I had received.”

West Ham United
Diafra Sakho sustained an apparent muscle injury in the process of firing a shot into the side netting against West Bromwich Albion. Slaven Billic conceded that the initial signs are not promising:

“We still have to wait and the specialist will see him to give an opinion. It looks like a muscle injury and the first news is not the best. It is a big blow. You can see injuries in every club and to be fair the number who are missing is not a lot, but the ones missing are key players who play in the same position. It is very hard to replace them.”

    I'm doing Butland -> DDG.
Worth spedning the other transfer on Sanchez -> Barkley (if Alexis is confirmed to be injuried) and play the Everton lad ahead of Mahrez?

Wouldn't waste your FT on a GK. FTs will come in handy during Xmas.

              I would, and I am.
We got him for his save points and good value.
Suddenly we have bonus points and CS as well.

Shawcross isn't suspended is he, just C1C game? I'd keep Butland and just downgrade Sanchez before he haemorrhages more value.

just noticed. you might be right with keeping Butland.
so without that I can do Sanchez -> Coutinho or Barkley and play one of them ahead of Mahrez. What do you think?

A bit annoying that everyone is converging on the same midfield assets.

Template = 4 of 5: Mahrez Ozil KDB Barkley Cout

Some variety adds so much. Hope some others emerge and split ownerships.

I'm looking at Barkley is my Sanchez replacement, which will give me a midfield of:

      KDB - Ozil - Barkley - Mahrez

I think this is a great way forward for the next few weeks. After bringing in players like Ozil, Lukaku and Kane, who are highly owned and scoring well, I have seen a decent rise up the rankings. I am never going to have a huge weeks where I surge up, but likewise it is unlikely I will have a detrimental week where I lose all ground which I covered in the previous few weeks.

Yes, that is if I deem bringing him in necessary.

Stoke have been solid with ShawX out, and he is possibly a doubt for the clash.

Swansea have been poor recently, but managed to concede only 1 against Liverpool, with that being a pen.

Arsenal could be a high scoring game, but despite some poor defensive performances recently, they could keep City out.

Likewise, Sunderland have been rejuvenated under BFS.

If you have Kun, you should really be captaining him every week for that price. Those fixtures don't really do it for me.

Front line of Lukaku, Kane and Vardy is doing me just fine.

          Cheers.

Looking into EO has opened my eyes to how effective it can be to have highly owned players. You still get the rewards and do not expose yourself to as much risk.

The problem arises when you are highly ranked and owning players like Vardy and Lukaku does you more harm than good if you do not captain them.

It only does more harm than good if they score more than the player you captained instead.

However, it may be dangerous not to own them if they are highly owned by those FPL managers who know what they're doing.

That is my exact midfield and has been for last few weeks. Hence my annoyance I suppose! People are going to gravitate to the players scoring well but it's an artificially higher rate what with the Sanchez injury.

Ah well, others will emerge and at least I can spend my FTs sorting other areas. Might even swap GK!

Bullet dodged really with the glass heel of his glass slippers on his glass legs putting paid to him once again. The key though is not so much his glass limbs but that presently with form and fixtures there are so many better options. Ighalo was a great choice gwk 13-15. Kane still great. Lukaku fixt still brilliant and so is his form. And then Vardy just won't go away.

I think there were some who saved the cash waiting for this day who perhaps now are wishing they'd have spent the money over the last few weeks.

Having said that I'll get him in soon - but as you say not before he can show some sort of proper fitness over a game.

I think this could be a wake up call for many, reminding us that he might not be the wisest investment of 13m+.

Don't get me wrong, he is an outstanding pick, but there are plenty of other players who are arguable just as good in this moment.

Kane, Lukaku and Vardy are offering astronomical value, and are currently outscoring Aguero.

Captaincy is a big factor with Kun. If you have him you should really be captaining him every week. I'm not confident that I would captain him every week, if I owned him, given the form of other players.

Good point. It took some of us several RVP and Rooney failures before we stopped getting them in.

I would put it the other way round - you should consider whether he is worth captaining regularly before you decide to bring him in.

But you don't have to captain him just because of his price. Captaincy should be based more on form and fixtures - but if you can afford him without weakening the rest of your team then it doesn't do any harm to get him and not captain him every week.

        Nicely put.

Aguero doesn't seem to be an absolute necessity right now given the form the other strikers are in atm.

But timing the move for him is also gonna be very crucial. We don't want to miss out on that 17 pointer either. 🙂

If there was no Kane or Lukaku - two players I'd trust with the armband most weeks...well at least one anyway in any given week, then I'd go for Aguero.

            I get what you mean.

But, I have Ighalo as well whose fixtures get rough after 2 gws. Perfect time for a swap I think after saving my FT (hopefully) next week.

If I was getting a striker in last week it would have been ighalo, who looks good for the arm band again this week and next. Good move getting him in and as you say in GWK 17 you have options of who to replace him with.

Do we know when we're likely to get (i.e press conferences) news for Aguero and Sanchez?

Already lost 0.2m on a potential Sanchez to Ozil move and looking at FPL stats on Barkley etc I'm not sure I'll have too much longer to make my decision

Arsenal news won't be before Thursday/Friday.

Aguero maybe tomorrow if you're lucky although I think you just have to assume he makes it for this week, or SWA at the latest which is when you really want him.

Sanchez > Ozil bit of a no brainer IMO, don't see any reason to wait.

    Williams (LEI)
    Dawson (TOT)
    Richards (sou)

I've been wanting to get rid of Williams and Richards for a while but other injuries keep preventing the moves. Should I take a -4? Maybe for Moreno? Thinking I'll easily make up the points in the next few, if not immediately.

Sounds good, I did Richards to Smalling for a hit few weeks ago and it paid off in the first week but I was sure it would pay off in 2-3 weeks. You are in similar situation. Toby and Sagna fine but others have very hard time to get cs.

Anyone have the feeling they're gonna get trolled by Mourinho this weekend over the GK scenario?

Plum fixture of Bournemouth at home, I have Begovic and a non-playing 4.0. I feel he'll say something in his presser to hint Courtois is ready to start, I'll take Begovic out for a hit, Begovic will play and Chelsea will keep a cleanie.

Who is the one player you desperately want to bring in but are really struggling to work a way.

    Mine is Kane

All this talk of Hazard, I don't want him but if he has a good gw, or two, then I might be in trouble.

No one. Happy with my squad and Vardy-> Aguero is only 2FT away

Would you remove Ruddy for a 4 point hit for one of Lloris/DDG/Courtois?

    Other keeper is Butland.

      i wouldn't use 4 pts on a keeper.

      Just play butland.

      Butland/4.0 is perfect
Ruddy is awful, but just don't play him until your next WC

I appreciate those who go for the one playing keeper. But personally I have always preferred the rotating two keepers.

Why is Cresswell a scout pick? Anything in his stats I don't know about? Gearing up to ditch him this week.

No idea. Supposedly he gets some attacking returns.
      Moreno is 10x the pick

hello to everyone . i need some help with the team.
    Hen Myhill
    Moreno bellerin rose kompany (saylor)
    Mahrez Bark Ozil Coutinho Sanchez
    Kane Vardy Luk
already brought in bark for free. i can play the team with sanchez and kompany on the bench ,but i am also thinking kompany to zouma or sanchez out , for -4 . is it worth it ?

You have a strong playing 11.

Sanchez will drop twice more so if you can absorb the loss (it may only be 0.1 if you have accrued rises) then I would sit tight and save the points.

i brought him in at 11.0 . i will switch him after next gw..if i do take the -4 it will be for kompany.

      Great team..
I suggest not to take the -4 hit and wait for confirmation on Sanchez!

I did Sanchez -> Coutinho and am repenting (bench dilema)
have the same front 7 and KDB in place of Sanchez!

    KDB Returns:
51 pts in six matches with Aguero (8.5 PPG)
16 pts in four matches without Aguero (4.0 PPG)

Small sample size and likely true for the team as a whole, it seems (2.3 goals per game with Aguero, 1.75 without him so far), but might still be worth noting.

mentioned that earlier in fact. For the past 4 weeks he has blanked, he was still creating chances, he just had no one to finish them off.

If aguero is out, his appeal diminishes.
