Fiffsa 5-a-side World Cup Qualifying Week 6

Gameweek 5 of the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament saw our first confirmed qualifications and exits. However, for the vast majority of the teams, there is everything still left to play for.

We would like to remind everyone of the deadline for submitting in your substitutes. This week, it will be 23:00 GMT on Monday, Jan 11th. We are still receiving some emails after this time and those teams had their 6th player benched as stated in the article. Please email as early as possible as we have limited time to organise the team spreadsheets and update the score centre during Monday night/Tuesday.

Any teamsheets sent to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your 6th player will be benched. No Exceptions!

Gameweek 5 Review

The average team score for this week was 340 points  and as with previous rounds there were some close ties. In particular, the ties between USA v Cayman Islands and Iran v Sri Lanka were decided by a single point.

The biggest win of the week was for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which defeated Russia by a massive 71 points in a match that ended 366 to 295.

With five games having being played, Tahiti remain the sole side with a 100% record and are secure for qualification. Thirteen other sides have won four of their first five matches and will expect to qualify although some still remain at risk depending on certain scenarios. In contrast, UAE and Ivory Coast, still maintain a 100% record of losing. Qualification may no longer be possible but I’m sure they will be looking to avoid a whitewash over the next two games.

The luckiest team award goes to France, who scraped a win with only 324 points (16 points below average).

The unluckiest team award goes to the Cayman Islands, who lost their tie against the USA despite scoring 357 points (17 points above average). This would have been enough to win all but 10 ties this week.

The worst benching decision goes to Iceland who benched Gilli Gold who scored 88 its, although it didn’t matter with Iceland edging out the Republic of Ireland.

The presser award for Gameweek 5 goes to Il Consiglieri Wasabi 196 of San Marino for getting the tournament into the christmas spirit. Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before why not submit one this week?

Gameweek 6 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties coming up this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

A top of the table clash in AFC group B finds New Caledonia taking on Singapore. Both sides are level on 12 points at the top of the table along with Australia and will be crucial in deciding who tops this group. The winner will guarantee qualification while the loser may need a result in the final game depending on other results.

In the CAF group, four teams are currently on 12 points. Two of these, Zambia and Djibouti go head to head, again, the loser of the tie will then need a win in the final game to secure qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) of Monday, Jan 11th otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the kick-off on Tuesday evening at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

    Mex vs Barb differentials

    Mex: +1
    Butland
Bellerin Dawson Wollscheid (2) Walker (2) Ivan
    KdB (2) Arna (2) Ozil (2)
    Lukaku Giroud

    Babs:
    Myhill Fab
Rose Williams Monreal Monero (2) Azpi
Yaya Alli Mahrez Ramsay (2) Silva (2)
    Ighalo (2)

A Norwich goal would really hurt, other than that it's spread out too much over 7 games.
I've autosubbed the Barb mofo who started Rojo. I had to use my Payet winnings to cover Mex hits

I'd say that is pretty 50/50 at the moment.

As you suggest, Stoke CS is a massive help for us and could clinch it.

The Tanzanians have a hefty lead over The Seychelles mostly thanks to Payet and a dissapointing return from the Crystal Palace defence.

    They lead 39-2

    Remaining Differentials are:

    Seychelles:

    2 x Butland, 1 x Rose, 1 x Nyom, 1 x Bellerin, 1 x Azpilicueta, 1 x Williams, 1 x Walker, 2 x Yaya Touré, 1 x Sigurdsson, 2 x Ramsey, 1 x Agüero, 1 x Lukaku, 3 x Kane, 1 x Giroud

    19 Players

    Tanzania

    1 x Kolarov, 1 x Alderweireld, 1 x Mahrez, 1 x De Bruyne, 1 x Özil, 3 x Ighalo, 2 x Cech, 1 x Fabianski, 1 x Gomes, 1 x Moreno, 2 x Wollscheid, 1 x Koscielny, 1 x Barkley, 1 x Walcott, 2 x Costa

    20 Players

It is going to be a big ask to come back from this deficit with less players but there is a long way to go a decent haul from Kane and nothing much from Ighalo could swing it by itself.

      Details | Narrative | |

      Here, where I walk,
confused silence swirls around my feet,
      and the anguished summer leaves
are lingering limp, waiting for autumn...,
waiting to crumble and mingle with earth
      drunk with the morning dew

      somewhere beneath them
      under the thunder
earth wears the scab of a fresh wound
in a place that will not be forgotten...
      corrupt with mourning
      sprouting with questions
      immersed with regret
      hollowed with anger
and shadowed by trees of despair

birch-bark faces, heads bent low, shadowed eyes
stone-cold voices, carried in the wind, behind disguise
while mute birds watch without a song
the leaves will decay, green goes, and the eye forgets
      forget? never....
while pawing on the hard and bitter earth
      of reason, is impossible...

      autumn comes
      and autumn goes
I will live in hope that baffled minds
will clearly see a winter sun
and give up blaming ... who?

Half-time update from Athens where Greece are hosting Portugal!

    Greece 2 - 50 Portugal

Greek Differentials (20): Bellerín x2, Walcott; Wollscheid; Alderweireld, Rose, Alli x3; Kolarov, Silva, Agüero x8; van Dijk.

Portuguese Differentials (14): Monreal, Özil, Giroud; Pieters; Kane; Yaya Touré; Gomes, Nyom; Moreno; Mahrez x2, Vardy; Costa; Deulofeu.

Alli and Agüero look to be the key players for Greece, can an Agüero explosion keep them fighting in the competition? We certainly hope not!

    Força Portugal!

    France vs. Northern Ireland:

    France (14 players)
    DEF: Cech / Zouma / Ivanovice / Azpi / Williams (5 players)
    FWD: Ozil / Siggy / Willian / Ighalo (3) / Costa (2) / Vardy (9 players)

    N. I. (18 players) + 16 pts
    DEF: Myhill / Rudd / Alderwield (2) / Sagna (2) / Rose / Dier (8 players)
    FWD: KDB / Alli / Kane (3) / Aguero (3) / Lukaku / Giroud (10 players)

    In DEF CHE vs. TOT
FWD: Ighalo + Costa vs Aguero + Kane

I think they have a better chance .. but an IGHALO hat-trick could settle things provided Aguero blanks 😛

        Press Conference From Lisbon

We would like to congratulate Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Tahiti, Indonesia, India, New Caledonia, Australia, Singapore, Egypt, Djibouti, Seychelles and Zambia who like us (Portugal) have all secured qualification to the finals!

Although nobody is mathematically guaranteed top spot in a group yet, we would like to offer special congratulations to Costa Rica who like us have all but secured first place in their group courtesy of having a 3 point lead and vastly superior points scored total than their only remaining challenger.

16 places remain up for grabs across the groups with nobody having secured qualification in UEFA Group A or UEFA Group B. UEFA Group A looks particularly exciting as all teams have a chance of making it to the finals next week!

Good luck everybody and commiserations to those teams that were knocked out this week.

Apparently the executives running FIFFSA seem to think the North Koreans have the collective IQ of a Turnip.

Our protest will be publicly aired in due course once all facts have been firmly substantiated.

We ask all team members to stay strong and dignified during this time

In the meantime the 15 points scored by North Korea this G/W can stay on your spreadsheet if it humours you so much; but to us it sits there as a beacon of shame on your spurious corrupt regime.
