If city win I will load up with 11 using wild card. On the downside it will take a while reconstructing a team with the likes of KDB and poo(l) players not forgetting Barkley and Eve defender. Yuck!

Without a WC you can safely get 5 in and use 2 FT's to have a bench's worth. It really depends on the quality of teams in the DGW.

He needs to play 180min(and perform) in a DGW. No gaurantee of either I'm afraid. I have a FT to burn and now that I have a keeper in GW 27 I would rather keep Ward and sell Moreno.

DGW defenders are a bit of a "false security".

Quality over Quantity in a DGW.

lol, yeah rub it in. One of my biggest mistakes was not getting Kasper towards the back end of last season. Oh, and getting Remy ofc. 😡

There is always a twist in the tail end of a season with relegation sides popping up with defensive resolve. Newc maybe?

I'd consider downgrading Toby if Vertonghen is out for a while as it makes the double up less appealing. I'd also keep an eye on Flanagan's time as could decrease Moreno's.

Other than that it is indeed G2G.

It just reveals that he's always been extremely lucky and it's about the time that luck turns. There's maybe 0.0005% skill in FPL as long as my OR is this low.

Has Lovren and Sakho played much together at CB? Normally Skrtel is in there somewhere but with him out injured could we see a strong CB partnership between Lovren and Sakho?

It is unfashionable to think that anything good could come of that pair, but I think the potential certainly is there. I have been forgiving Lovren his erratic play for quite a long time now, though, and am starting to think that maybe he just is, after all, a bit carp.

I'm not so sure. I'm beginning to think he could be about to turn it around. Was in decent form before he got injured. Its all about establishing effective partnerships at CB, maybe he can forge a good one with Sakho

He certainly wasn't in a good form in the beginning of this season. He has still directly assisted more goals against Liverpool than any other player this season. I always thought that he's a strong aggressive technical CB in the making, in the mould of David Luiz, and that is a good thing although it occasionally causes an error that people will remember, and when he's young these errors are more frequent as he's still learning to make the right decision. But I'm not sure anymore. Maybe he's just not good enough to play that role. He's also always had a bit bad mentality, that may in the end prevent him from developing into that top class defender that David Luiz turned into.

He was good at Southampton with Fonte sitting back a bit more and being the final man. I guess thats not really Lovrens game.

But going forward has always been his strong point, already in Lyon, and I'd assume that when he was brought to Pool they expected exactly that from him.

Yep going forward is his strong point. Is Sakho the kind of player that will sit back with the striker and allow Lovren to move forward and make the tackles?

Hmm... I think that's the idea. It may not be the best idea.

Now that I think of it, Sakho has worked splendidly for France with Varane, who is highly technical, ball playing defender, but also a player who does not play very aggressively, leaving Sakho to take the opponent more aggressively. There's a kind of dynamic that works there: Sakho defends more aggressively, but when they win the ball, it's Varane who tends to go more forward and Sakho who always sits back.

I'm not saying Lovren is as good as Varane, but if they could develop their game to that direction, then maybe Lovren would also be less prone to errors that he makes usually when he goes aggressively to defend, and still could use his technique going forward? Just thinking out loud, not suggesting this would happen.

I used to be a CB myself and I kind of understand the different roles each CB needs. I guess I'm suggesting that it might not be the player but rather the partnership which is most important. If each of these players have quite different characteristics and complement each other well then that is probably a good thing. I guess we are yet to see it in action.

I think we agree here. It's much about the dynamic between the players. Why people often get surprised when a player who was successful somewhere fails elsewhere, and then think he just has become bad somehow.

Particularly concerning defenders. It is hard to set to work well, which is why defenders seldom are sold from the top clubs and the managers want to settle for some defence and change it as little as possible once it starts to work.

Yeah, communication is such an important part of defending. Its why Chelsea and Mourinho were so successful for so long, its only when Terry got too old to keep going that it began to fall apart.

I think Lovren would be a better foil with Sakho. It'd be interesting to see how the partnership develops anyway.

Best Defender for the possible DGW would be ?
    1. Baines
    2. Sagna/Otamendi ( If City win)
    3. Sakho

Don't know how safe Sagna is. Don't rate Sakho.

Probably Otamendi, and Baines depending on his opposition. You'd have to rely on attacking returns from him because Everton don't look like getting CS. That's what I'm hoping for against Newcastle 🙁 failed me against swans.
