This Much We Know – Gameweek 26

Our attentions turn to the weekend’s 10 matches now as we look for any pertinent lessons learned. Sunderland and West Ham’s playmakers produce the goods, Liverpool’s attack may need reassessing as the injuries ease, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham’s form men strengthen their differential appeal by picking up the points once again.

The cat is out of the bag with Khazri…
After earning both assists in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool, Sunderland’s new playmaker needed just two minutes in his first home start to get amongst the goals in a vital win over United. Khazri’s set-piece prowess also led to the Black Cats’ second as Big Sam’s side moved to just a single point from safety last weekend. With their momentum on the up, the 6.0-priced Tunisian already looks the catalyst as Sunderland attempt to pull off yet another great escape.

Everton’s inconsistency will prompt a Lukaku exodus…
It’s one goal in seven now for the big Belgian after the Toffees failed to find a way past a West Brom defence that rolled up to Goodison with just two clean sheets in 15. Certainly, Roberto Martinez’ men can’t be faulted for trying – they fired 33 efforts without success against the Baggies but with a blank Gameweek 27 looming large, it’s no real surprise to see that Lukaku has earned over 40,000 transfers out – almost double the number of any forward. A trip to Villa in Gameweek 28 may be tempting but the move to Jamie Vardy is becoming obvious, given the Foxes’ upcoming fixtures.

Payet’s end product is worth the wait…
The West Ham playmaker served a reminder of his Fantasy talents in a 2-2 comeback draw at Norwich. Payet’s output had been underwhelming since returning from injury – with five blanks in six prior to Carrow Road – but a 13-point haul, courtesy of a goal, assist and maximum bonus, took his average to 5.7 points per game – fourth amongst midfielders and on a par with the likes of Sergio Aguero. The cut-price Michail Antonio has offered value for money as a Hammers alternative but with Manuel Lanzini edging towards a comeback and Victor Moses also in contention, Payet remains the Hammers’ jewel in the crown.

Despite Costa’s form, it’s a case of just Willian…
A goal and assist in Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle continued the Chelsea striker’s fine recent showings. It’s seven goals and three assists in eight appearances under Guus Hiddink now for Costa, who, despite moving to just six points behind Sergio Aguero, remains in just 7% of Fantasy Premier League sides. With Aguero and Harry Kane nailed on for many, and with Jamie Vardy looking the obvious replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Costa’s propensity for picking up injuries and suspensions seems set to keep him off most Fantasy managers’ radars. Meanwhile, the 7.0-priced Willian moved to a single point behind the Hammers’ Payet after bagging his third double-figure haul since the departure of Jose Mourinho and continues to offer an excellent Blues alternative in the centre of the park.

Targett is back in the frame…
Having recovered from injury, the Southampton youngster was immediately reinstalled to the starting XI for the trip to Swansea. Despite netting the winner against West Ham, Maya Yoshida dropped back down to the bench as Targett returned to left wing-back in a 3-5-2, with Ronald Koeman preferring Ryan Bertrand in the back-three. After helping his side to a sixth straight clean sheet, the 3.9-priced Targett – who has now produced 35 points in his last four starts – looks back on the radar as a route into the league’s in-form defence.

Ranieri will sacrifice Mahrez flair…
Whilst Jamie Vardy benefitted from his role as Leicester’s new number one spot-kick taker, the Algerian’s owners were left with no more than a one-point haul after he was subbed off just before the hour-mark at the Emirates. For the second successive Gameweek, Mahrez was withdrawn early as Claudio Ranieri looked to tighten up defensively and protect a lead – this time as a result of Danny Simpson’s dismissal just minutes into the second half. As alluded to in last week’s Say What article, although Mahrez remains one of the first names on Ranieri’s team sheet, his minutes may well be somewhat restricted late on in matches depending on the circumstances in any given Gameweek.

We’re still unsure on Mertesacker….
A minor injury to Gabriel saw the German return to Arsene Wenger’s first XI for yesterday’s home clash with Leicester. Mertesacker had started 13 straight league outings before being sent off early on against Chelsea in Gameweek 24 and, in his absence, Gabriel certainly took his chance, helping the Gunners to successive clean sheets against Southampton and Bournemouth to suggest he could be a bargain buy at 4.3. One look at Arsenal’s remaining home matches (SWA, WBA, WAT, CPL, NOR, AVL) indicates that investment in their rearguard could reap reward, though for now, there still seems too much uncertainty over Laurent Koscielny’s central defensive partner to take the plunge.

Wenger’s attacking options might just be the title clincher…
Arsenal’s strength in depth paid off decisively against Leicester after subs Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck emerged from the bench to grab a goal apiece in the 2-1 comeback win. Whilst that’s good news for the Gunners’ title hopes, it merely adds to Wenger’s options in the final third – both are able to play out wide or up top and are starting to threaten Olivier Giroud’s security of starts, given that the Frenchman has netted in just one of his last seven. With Alexis Sanchez still firing blanks, the appeal of Mesut Ozil was again underlined by his last-minute assist for Welbeck’s winner – the German has played a part in 53.8% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, more than any midfielder in the top flight.

Sturridge and Coutinho could put Firmino back in his box….
With the Anfield treatment room finally emptying, the summer signing’s Fantasy potential took a turn for the worse despite a 6-0 rout over Villa. Moved away from his “false nine” berth as Jurgen Klopp shifted to 4-2-3-1 to accommodate Daniel Sturridge up top, Firmino’s single assist was overshadowed by a trio of assists from Philippe Coutinho at Villa Park. Given that he scored or assisted seven of his side’s previous 10 league goals, yesterday’s downturn in output suggests the summer signing may struggle to remain the best route into Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Alli is distracting us from Eriksen’s appeal….
The Tottenham playmaker continues to remain under the radar as a result of Deli Alli’s far kinder price tag. At 8.5 to the youngster’s 6.0, Eriksen has been largely overlooked in what is turning out to be his most influential season at the Lane – yesterday’s winner at the Etihad helped him serve up a third double-figure haul in the last five Gameweeks. Both Alli and Eriksen have been in involved in 31% of Spurs’ goals when on the pitch, indicating that if price is no object, the Dane may well be worth the extra outlay.

Villa are barely playing for pride…
Steamrollered by Liverpool in a dire home display and with their only form player sparking a twitter storm and angering fans on the back of that 6-0 rout, Villa look down and out. With their morale on the downturn, Remi Garde’s side – who now find themselves eight points adrift of safety – are in danger of becoming whipping boys in any given Gameweek, with a trip to Stoke looking tailor-made for the Potters to take advantage.

    Evening folks.

Anyone have a link to the best baseline BAPs from each team?

        Cheers Balders.

How would you separate 2 players from the same team, same price, similar baseline baps?

        Fonte - 396 baseline BPS - 15.9 BBPs per 90, 11 CS, 2 goals
        VVD - 357 baseline BPS - 16.2 BBPs per 90, 10 CS, 2 goals

In which case VVD for the ever so marginally better BBPS

It's so bloody tight in every comparison I've seen thus far.

Might as well pick out of a hat at this point and hope I get the guy that scores the next header.

Leaning toward VVD just because of ownership.

All good. This is purely based on the eye test though.no do watch TV coverage of every saints game, often whilst simultaneously reading FFS and chatting on whatsapp. So I wouldn't say I'm studying them meticulously!

I definitely did notice VVD get forward in open play a few times though, and never saw similar from Fonte. Reminded me of playing 7 a side football where there is always a centre back who thinks he is Ronald Koeman playing for barca... Oh wait...

Amazing effort from Balders. Oh to be a uni student!

It really is a minefield that's for sure. One thing I'm wondering, if this weekend's cup games are draws, when are the replays?

        • 10 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

Cheers Scored, its a bit tricky as Monday 7th March is available to everyone but Chelsea vs Man City. However that would mean playing it 2 days after a PL game. The alternative is the replay gets moved back to GW30 and both teams suffer a blank gameweek. The QF would then likely get pushed back to April 4th in that case.

Ye I would agree but I'm worried about going without Vardy for Leicesters next 6-8 games. I have to get rid of Ighalo for him because I ain't ditching Vardy or Kane.

Suppose I could do Sanchez back to Ozil as that move has flopped for me anyway

I'm a firm believer that LEI have a real shot at winning the title. But I must say, those final 3 games are a nightmare!

FInal 3 games of the current top 4:

      Leicester: MUN(A), EVE(H), CHE(A)

      Spurs: CHE(A), SOU(H), NEW(A)

      Arsenal: NOR(H), MCI(A), AVL(H)

      Man City: SOU(A), ARS(H), SWA(A)

Historically yes, but they're not all that hard this year. Might be that they only need a draw from Chelsea

Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge are not easy places to travel to, and LEI don't have a huge points advantage so I doubt they will be able to win the title with a draw, even if they're still top by final match day!

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
                8 years, 3 months ago

Stamford Bridge is not easy but Old Trafford isn't *hard* anymore. And the way utd play is perfect for Leicester to hit them on the counter. They don't need a huge points advantage just one more win with their rivals dropping points. Long story short i see their rivals dropping more points than them, spurs should probably be the closest to them come final gw

Teams will take Leicester a lot more seriously now and a lot of the teams they face will be battling for relegation. Leicester will find it harder to break them down than their rivals. It's theirs to lose but I can't see Arsenal losing many so they'll have to show the same consistency they've shown this year.

I can see arsenal dropping points, they arguably have the hardest fixtures. Also people have been saying teams will take Leicester seriously all season, yet arsenal would have lost (at best drawn) were it not for a Simpson brainfart. And the relegation threatened teams will need wins not draws so they'll have to attack. Could go either way it's never black and white

It's not that Arsenal didn't take them seriously, it's just that they usually struggle in first half games as has been the case for years. Coquelin could have also been sent off and Wasilewski was a definite red card, so was Drinkwater for that horror challenge on Ramsey. Mahrez could have also won another penalty. Overall the referee was rubbish but Arsenal's quality came through.

Arsenal always go on a really strong run every season. They've been horribly inconsistent so far but it looks like they found their groove again and a lot of their players are coming back. They'll win most of their games. Tottenham have equally difficult fixtures.

Of course they'll win most, so will Leicester so will spurs. But unless Leicesters form drops severely the title should be theirs as they do have the easiest fixtures and the most rested team without cl or el commitments

              Simple question about GW30

              Chelsea vs. City
              Everton vs. Bournemouth

If these matches don't end in draws then the losing team's match goes ahead right?

Already have Forster/Targett, not sure I fancy a treble-up, no mater how well they've done recently.

It's Firmino I'm trying to lose, as he has a blank and I think his potential plummets with Sturridge's return.

Firmino on borrowed time with pool having less injury issues.
Holding onto Kun even with another blank. There could be double DGw's for City and Everton soon.

Completely agree on Firmino. My plan was always, and still is, to sell this week.

Don't go along with all the love for Arnie though. Great fixtures, but his form is bobbins. Struggling for a better option though. Would get Khazri if Bournemouth get through. But if Chelsea have no GW30 blank, maybe Willian.

Would you take a -4 hit if you were still alive in LMS.

My ft = Lukaku out & Vardy in

              DDG (Elliott)
              Dier, VVD, PVA, Dawson (Simpson)
              Ozil, Payet, Alli, Gosling (Firmino)
              Kane, Vardy (c) (Aguero)

The -4 hit = Gosling out & Mahrez in

              So what option:
              (a) no hit & play Gosling or
              (b) -4 hit & bring in Mahrez by selling Gosling

My transfers will be done last minute

              Jonny Walters or Arnautovic?
Stoke with 2 lovely fixtures plus a guaranteed game in GW 30.
Arnie was a disaster when I owned earlier in the season.

              Firmino out.
Alli/ Eriksen are form players but tricky enough games and v likely not playing GW 30.

              What are people's thoughts?
              Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Firmino*, Stan
Aguero, Vardy, Kane my other attackers.

I am chasing.. I better add.
              All my rivals have Alli..

                  Not at all.

Only Stoke defenders are worth having right now

              Game Week 30 Summary

2 games are scheduled to take place regardless of cup results

              Stoke v Southampton
              Leicester v Newcastle

Depending on R5 result between Bournemouth and Everton

Either Sunderland v Everton or Bournemouth Swansea will take place,

Providing Chelsea v City doesn't require a replay

Either Norwich v City or Liverpool v Chelsea will take place

Villa v Spurs will take place if Palace win at Spurs in R5

United v Palace, West Ham v Watford and Arsenal v WBA require both teams to loss in R5, which is extremely unlikely, as all bar Palace play opponents from lower leagues.

                    No.. It's either or!
Even if ARS beat HUL, if on the other side WBA wins, they will still blank.
These are BLANK POSSIBILITIES, not possibilities that they PLAY.

                Everton to win
                Chelsea to win
                Spurs to win
Resulting in them having a blank.

Would be a perfect scenario for those who's been planning for gw30 for a few weeks. It would hit my rivals hard.

Best team for GW as of now, with only 4 teams confirmed..

              Forster
              VVD - Wollchied - Huth
              Mahrez - Wijnaldum - Arnie - Townsend
              Vardy - Bojan - Pellè

                Ewwwwww

Which is why people needs to hold on to their FT's.

                Only ones worth having right now are;
                Mahrez
                Vardy
                Huth/Fuch
                VVD/Fonte
                Forster/Butland
                Wollscheid/shawcross (if fit)

The rest will be from teams who ends up playing.

                    Only if desperate.

Would rather use that midfield place for the likes of Siggy or kazhri over Arnie (all depends on results of this weekend)

Good team for that week, but switching to 11 DGW'ers for GW34 would be problematic.

                  This.

This is where it's going to get really messy IMO. Not the setting up for gw30. But for the setting up for DGW's

the only way it could be achieved is if Newcastle's DGW v City is rearranged for GW34.

Any chance Pedro gets nailed on once Oscar is back? He is more of a poacher compared to Willian.

3 shots on target vs. Newcastle as well.

              A - Wooly (have butters)
              B - Fonte (have Vvd)
              C - Daniels
              D - Other
