Sky Sports Focus – Double Gameweek 30

It’s time for our Sky Sports Focus article this Thursday evening, as we look back at the previous action before preparing you for the upcoming double Gameweek. As always, we bring you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and Watchlist before assessing the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 28 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Sunderland vs Man UnitedLamine Kone
Bournemouth vs StokeGiannelli Imbula
Crystal Palace vs WatfordTroy Deeney
Everton vs West BromClaudio Yacob
Norwich vs West HamDimitri Payet
Swansea vs SouthamptonVirgil van Dijk
Chelsea vs NewcastlePedro
Arsenal vs LeicesterN’Golo Kante
Aston Villa vs LiverpoolPhilippe Coutinho
Man City vs TottenhamMousa Dembele

Two defenders, seven midfielders and one forward grabbed the awards. It was a real week for differentials with only Dimitri Payet (13.5%) and Virgil van Dijk (7.1%) likely having a significant impact on rankings. Both those two made it four MoTM awards for the season, as did Troy Deeney and Philippe Coutinho.

Gameweek 28 Bonus Points

Only two goalkeepers picked up bonus last time out, with Ben Foster and Vito Mannone the men in question. Foster was the week’s highest scorer after a clean sheet, added to his bonus haul, meant he racked up a tidy eight points. Petr Cech is the game’s leading keeper with 16 bonus points.

In defence, 12 players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and seven for passes completed – Simon Francis was the closest to earning both, missing out on two extra bonus by just one completed challenge. The Bournemouth man also leads the way for defenders alongside Erik Pieters at the bonus summit with 20 points apiece.

In midfield, there were 17 beneficiaries in total: eight for tackling and 11 for passes. All-action duo Emre Can and Mousa Dembele were the two to pick up both. Cesc Fabregas is the bonus darling with 46 points overall – 12 more than the second placed Lucas Leiva.

Heung-Min Son was the only forward to pick up bonus after completing five challenges, which underlines Spurs’ high pressing game.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

ArnautovicStoke5.54.4%
De BruyneMan City7.84.2%
IghaloWatford6.53.7%

Bacary Sagna’s injury absence has sparked a major exodus at the back as Sky managers look to freshen up their defences. Kevin de Bruyne remains on the sidelines, though Marko Arnautovic is expected to return for Stoke ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Villa and Newcastle. Up top, the out-of-sorts Romelu Lukaku and Odion Ighalo were the main casualties for those looking for a forward for the Sunday matches.

Vardy, Alli and Alderweireld played on the Sunday last time out so were obvious candidates to draft in. Payet and Van Dijk’s form is hard to argue against, too, and with both so reasonably priced in the Sky game, have offered excellent value for money in recent outings.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

ITB: 0.2m
Transfers remaining: 11/40
Last week’s points: 55

Rank: 1,801

Notes
I climbed up to 1,801st despite a fairly mediocre week, as the teams struggling without transfers above me start to fall down the league. Cesc Fabregas (14 points) and Dimitri Payet (15) were the main performers last time out.

Alexis Sanchez is my biggest worry at the moment, as that gamble seems to have failed miserably. By opting for the Chilean I’m currently Jamie Vardy-less, which is a real concern ahead of a great run for Leicester, with Vardy the likely skipper for most active players this week. With 11 transfers left I could make the swap but being the stubborn so-and-so that I am, I’ll just hope the Fantasy gods have decided to smile kindly on me and Sanchez comes up trumps.

Captain Plan
With a double Gameweek on the agenda, there is, of course, a multitude of options available. I’m likely to go with the transfer-less approach and give the armband to Riyad Mahrez for his home clashes against Norwich and West Brom before switching skipper to Sergio Aguero for his trip to Liverpool on March 2. This works out pretty well as Man City are at home to lacklustre Aston Villa on Saturday in Gameweek 31.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are sitting in first place in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:30 SkySports 1 HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, chatting to former Liverpool and Aston Villa star Ray Houghton and asking him for his #One2Eleven.

Who would you rather sell for Fuchs?

    a.) Azpi (Soton, Norwich, Stoke)
    b.) Cresswell (Sun, Spurs, Eve)

Difficult short and long term trade off, leaning towards Cresswell atm

Best use of FT pls to have a full XI? thx (*already have triple Lei)

    1. -4 for Lukak > Kane (wil he start or injured? plays SWA & bench Cedric)
(lukaka has 2 good fixt after blnk in avl - WHU - sun)
    2. Save FT & play Cedric ag che? (risk of 1pt or even no gametime)
    3. FT Cedric > Wolly (2 good fixt AVL - NEW)
    4. FT Cedric > Targett (maybe same risk as cedric, but Targett looks more nailed in 3-5-2, unless Yoshida starts at Central and Bert gos to LFB)
    5. FT Cedric > Wimmer (Spurs now to play it seems gw30)

** cedric not nailed. never know w/ wanyama out and romeu around

2 FT's available and I have no keeper for GW30. Considered getting Forster in for McCarhty but I won't play him this week anyway as Henno has the better fixture for me. Also considered Simpson>Huth\Fuchs but is this a waste? Huth on 7 bookings but could score vs Norwich... Tricky!

So with the Arsenal vs Hull replay being on 8 March, does that mean that if Arsenal win the replay it's unlikely that their GW30 clash on 12 March is postponed for the next round of the FA cup?

Regards to my post earlier about Arnautovic (C)

Yes, Stoke have blanked 4 of their last 5 games, but in my opinion they shook that off against Bournemouth last week. When we consider the teams they blanked against it's fairly forgivable.

STO 0-0 ARS: Arsenal have a decent defence much like the bigger teams.
LEI 3-0 STO: Leicester probably had the best defence in the league at this time.
MUN 3-0 STO: United have one of the highest if not the best home defensive record this season.
STO 0-3 EVE: Everton have been bad all season in defence so this was disappointing.

When we take into account this Villa side conceded three times to their youth development team last week, I think Arnautovic is a great pick once passed fit to start. His stats are impressive from his last 4 matches, and he gets quite a high number of penalty touches. Set pieces are a bonus too, especially if Bojan is ruled out. Not to mention that Villa concede an awful lot of chances from their right flank, which for Stoke means Arnautovic could easily exploit that and move into space behind Villa's defensive line.

Hmm, very nice case for owning him but still not sure about the captaincy. I'll go with Payet but happy to be an owner 🙂

Sunderland have tightened up, they have their defenders back and it's the early game.

Not for me unfortunately, too many doubts sown in my head about that game given West Ham's history playing the lesser teams this season

Stoke's stats aren't good, but I think Arnies are personally.

Run a comparison over the last 4 matches against Vardy, Mahrez, Payet, etc.

In terms of stats, he's up there with the (C) options being listed for this week

@Greenbackboogie, don't just take Carp's word on it, as a member run those comparisons so you see it yourself how good his stats are.

But do not come back to tell the results, that's member stuff.

Yes but as I said look at who Stoke were playing over the last 5 gameweeks, they're against Villa now who rank as one of the worst defenses lately and have shown signs of improvement against Bournemouth last week who are seldom pushovers

Got absolutely nothing to do with it. They are not attacking, full stop. I would advise against that captain.

They put 3 past Bournemouth last week, who's not to say it's their turning point from the dry spell in attack?

They play Villa on the weekend, if they don't score at least 2 goals I'll eat my hat

Essentially, what you're saying is Stoke scored 0 goals over 4 matches. That shouldn't make any of their attackers captain material.

Context means nothing these days? A blank was not unlikely against 3/4 of the teams they played against.

They scored 3 goals away to Bournemouth last week, they play Villa next. Easily enough of a reason to (C) one of them

Blank against 1, even 2 out of three not unlikely. Blank against all 3, and the poorly defending Everton, would be a crazy anomaly unless their attack is carp.

I admit they shouldn't have blanked at home to Everton, but as I said, they scored 3 last week away to Bournemouth.

Who's to say this isn't the turning point of their attacking form? Especially when they have Villa next. If this season has taught me anything it is to strike early while you can.

Ah I see, I wasn't on much yesterday.

Obviously I'm biased going with Arnautovic so no point weighing in. However, I do think Spurs are actually one of the teams with a high CS chance this week.

It's Love & McNair I haven't got much hope for. Donald Love's never really stood out, even for the U21s.

McNair started well when he broke in but makes me very nervous now.

No idea IE. A few players are returning now.

I believe Valencia is close, Rojo is back on the bench, and there's Borthwick-Jackson who's missing tonight.

Carrick needed to be in midfield. There will be such a huge gap now. Ander Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Memphis; Martial will move forward leaving Morgan alone.
