Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Part One

Welcome to the first of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your wildcard teams and to help others with their wildcard related issues. I’ve picked the short straw to start the first discussion.

My Wildcard Team

Mignolet Robles

Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Jagielka  Ward

De Bruyne Sanchez Lingard Coutinho Payet

Mitrovic Lukaku Aguero

0.2m in the bank

Strategy

I’m currently keeping a close eye on price changes and drafting in players I’m considering as they expect to rise and ditching those set for a fall. As it stands Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs are in my squad but some if not all of them will depart.

Above is the option I’m considering the most, going all out with  15 double players in double Gameweek 34, having three Everton and one Palace player in place for double Gameweek 33 and for double Gameweek 35 I’ve nine players with two transfers to take me to 11. I’m fine taking a hit if an injury lets me down here. I also have six players in place for double Gameweek 37 with  a view to fielding 10 to 11 with a hit that Gameweek.

My bench boost will be played in double Gameweek  34 and triple captaincy in double Gameweek 37.

Key issues

Dropping Kane

Given the high price tags of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool midfielders plus Arsenal’s key defender Hector Bellerin, as well as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane looks unsustainable. Going without him scares me but to put him in I have to make sacrifices across my whole team. I may very well get him back in for Gameweek 35 though if he punishes me too much. However, if dropping Kane for double Gameweeks 33 and 34 I can be safe in the knowledge that no one will captain him. Shunning Kane also allows for De Bruyne, who looked sharp against Bournemouth and has a great home tie in Gameweek 33, certainly on paper more enticing than Kane’s match up with Van Gaal’s all out defence tactics.

Sanchez over Ozil

Alexis Sanchez looks not only to have won this battle but looks to be the best captaincy pick for double Gameweek 34. I’ve seen enough, he’s in my team.

Punting on Mitrovic

I’ve also seen enough of Newcastle to know that they only have one strategy – get the ball to Alexsandar Mitrovic’s head. With two home games I’m hoping (praying) he can outscore Kane. This is a very rare maverick decision for me and I’m getting scared already thinking of being without Harry.

Ignoring Manchester Utd Defenders

Having no Manchester United defender in particular worries me with two great home games. But none are nailed on except David De Gea and the over priced Chris Smalling. De Gea is an option, but requires surgery in Gameweek 35 when I have no goalies. Jesse Lingard looks to be my only Man Utd player.

Jagielka to fly the dullard flag

If I’m not going to get James Milner then Phil Jagielka is the next best thing for this dullard. Members may note though that in terms of goal attempts he may offer some surprises during the doubles.

Leaving Leicester alone

Of my soon to be ditched Leicester pair of Mahrez and Fuchs it is the defender that worries me the most. Offloading Fuchs’ almost now guaranteed clean sheets and bonus each game will be a wrench. He is also outscoring Mahrez on current form. If any single gameweekers stay he is in pole position.

Are you not concerned at all by the story this morning Jonty?.. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/rafa-benitez-bank-newcastles-senior-7689642

As Clump said to me a while back, it's the Mirror. Probably not the most concrete of stories

Benitez had began the match with Mitrovic as sub and started the game with Papiss Cisse in attack. When asked if he regretted his decision Benitez said: “Not really, he came late after the international break. We have players flying around the world and players training with you. When we were 1-0 down we had to play everyone in attack. “The substitutions worked well but you have to decide before the game who is in form or who has done well in training during the whole week.
“You need to see who can help.” Now Benitez hopes that Mitrovic can lead the charge to safety and believes he will go into the last seven games with his confidence boosted.
He said: “It happened like this but it was good for Mitrovic because he scored two and it can be good for his confidence and the rest of the season if he keeps scoring goals

    Plan for 33,34
    De Gea (schmeichel)
Bellerin, Cyne, Gabriel (klose, morgan 35)
De bruyne, Sanchez, Countinho, Mahrez, Payet
    Lukaku, Sturridge, Rashford

My frontline is a bit weak? Can i live without Agu.....?

    Any feedback appreciated, thanks!

Too much punt for forwards. I don't believe sturridge might even play for 120 mins in dgw and Rashford can easily be benched if Rooney returns. Why you don't downgrade schmeichel to darlow and use the cash for let's say mitrovic and martial?

You are right, it is too much punt forward. Not sure if Agu is the one to go for either. Except City strong win away in GW 32 they haven't been very good on the road.
        Darlow in.
        Lukaku, Martial, and 7,9 forward......Mitrovic?

        De gea(Darlow)
        Darmian, Clyne, Gabriel (simpson, klose)
Coutinho, De Bruyne, Sanchez, Lanzini or Drinkwater
        Lukaku, Martial, Aguero

        3-4-3
        Triple captain Sanchez GW 34

This might be a better setup.

good bar the car crash that is taylor (newcastle have players coming back as well)

the price for seven big, big hitters

I think you have to downgrade one of them (either sanchez to ozil or kdb at least to silva) to get a bit more cash in that defence

swapping mignolet for darlow would give you a lot more to play with - nobody needs double pool defence

Is Mangala "nailed on" enough to play at least 3 out the next 4 games given Kompany isn't likely to be back and Demi is just crap? I'm planning to drop in 36 anyway, so just need a Man City player to play as much in that period as possible. 5.7 is max I can afford and Mangala seems safest route in depite Clichy starting more recently? I know it's not guaranteed but can anyone confirm Mangala best way in at that price point considering I've already maxed Liverpool and Arsenal and have a Man Utd defender in already.

I think Mangala is and he's currently in my team too. It's also likely Demichelis will be suspended for his gambling offence limiting their options further at centre back. I can't see anyone City can rotate Mangala with whereas Clichy and Sagna have Zabaleta and Kolarov as competition.

Thank you. I didn't actually Demi had a gambling offence so that definitely helps concrete in my Mangala pick. Much obliged friend!

Yeah, it's not certain but think he'll get a few games suspension soon. Good luck!

    My plan is as follows.

    Wk 33: Wildcard & 4 playing DGWK
    De Gea, Hennessey
    Bellerin, Gabriel, Mangala, Jagielka, Sakho
    Ozil, Firmino, Barkley, Payet, Alli
    Lukaku, Aguero, Ighalo

Wk 34: Bench boost & 14 playing DGWK

Wk 35: 2 Free transfers and 4 point hit gives me 11 playing
    Jagielka > Fuchs
    De Gea > Mignolet
    Mahrez > Barkley

Wk 36: 4 point hit to prepare again for DGWK 37
    Fuchs > Coleman
    Mahrez > Barkley

Wk 37: 1 transfer gives me 9 playing DGWK. Happy to have Aguero and Alli as SGWK. Triple captain Payet.
    Mangala > Cresswell

Wk 38: Team and fixtures looks ok, not sure I’ll make transfer unless injuries.

    Risks / Problems:
    1. Removing Mahrez & Huth for week 33 and not having Kane in week 35 is far from ideal given relatively favourable fixtures.

    2. Two four point hits needed for additional transfer over weeks 35 & 36 moving the same players in and out to field 11 then prepare for DGWK 37. Feels risky not to have Mahrez and Leicester defender in week 35.

    3. Ighalo is a gamble as currently off form. I just fancy fixtures from now to end of season as they are playing two double weeks and have games against teams that ship goals: Everton (H), WBA (A), West Ham (A), Aston Villa (H), Liverpool (A), Norwich (A), Sunderland (H).

    4. Sanchez would be my preference in midfield ahead of Ozil but currently outwith my price range.

    5. Possible rotation risks. Slightly concerned that Sahko, Gabriel and Firmino could be rotated in week 34.

    6. Man City not great at back so Mangala a little gamble. Would rather have than anyone from WBA, Newcastle, Watford etc given fixtures.

    Any thoughts / suggestions?

    WC Team
    Migs, Robles
    Gabriel, Kosc, Fuchs, Moreno, Rojo
    Lennon, Ozil, Payet, Mahrez, Couthino
    Kun, Kane, Lukaku

    $0.2 ITB

    GW34 > BB with 12 DGW
    GW35 > 2FT = Kun > Costa, Rojo > Ivanavic (11 players)
    GW36 > AOA, No transfers
    GW37 > 2FT = Gabriel > Ake, Fuchs > Cresswell (10 x DGW players)
    GW38 > 1FT undecided

Unfortunately I used Triple C earleir in season to help with a mini league relegation which I wasted on Mahrez who missed penalty and I got 3 pts total (plus got relegated)

Appreciate comments for a boy all the way down under in Aust

    So I currently have -

    DDG / Darlow

    Bellerin / Gabriel / Sahko / Soure / Simpson

    Sanchez / KDB / Coutinho / Payet / Lingard

    Aguero / Lukaku / Mitrovic

Any thoughts on the above? I know Lingard, Darlow and Soure aren't great picks but they enable the big hitters and will spend most of the time on the bench with the money on the starting line up

Is that gravatar from a fan before/during the Germany game?
Darlow is a GREAT pick, 3.9 enabler with 35 game and DGW.
Seems you're strapped for SV, so your 15 looks good. IE I don't see any obvious improvements that doesn't cripple something else.
*Denaney has a bigger goal threat than Souare, as a small tweak.
*Anything more loses you a Man Utd defender, which you really want IMO

Yup he was a pretty famous Brazil fan (if you get famous fans!), unfortunately I believe he has passed away.

I would definitely go Delaney but unfortunately I haven't got the funds, this leaves 0 in the bank.

And I agree that a Utd defender looks a good pick with the fixtures. I'm just hoping the big hitters do the job!

Cheers for the input, much appreciated 🙂

Can anyone help me with a link?
I saw a post with a link to a Google sheet on here about a week back. I think it populated your squads fixtures and blanks over the remainder of the season, I stupidly didn't bookmark at the time. Thanks
