The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 35

We visit the Weekly Shop a little later than usual this time around after Gameweek 34 finally concluded last night. As usual, we analyse the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Hugo Lloris (FantasyBet 5m) has picked up four clean sheets in five matches as Spurs ramp up their bid for the title. The Frenchman is looking for a 14th shut-out of the campaign at home to a West Brom side that have failed to score in three of their last six away trips. Danny Rose (FantasyBet 5m) seems to have nailed down the left-back spot after starting the last six league matches – a goal and seven assists this season shows his influence in the final third.

Southampton have now gone eight matches without a clean sheet, their worst defensive run of the season. Nonetheless, a visit to a relegated Aston Villa who have scored only once in six outings means we’re backing the Saints defence to end that poor run. With three goals to his name already, Virgil Van Dijk (FantasyBet 5.5m, DraftKings $3,300) is our pick from Ronald Koeman’s backline.

Considering that Aston Villa have conceded the most goals of any side this season, Southampton’s attacking assets have to be considered for our squads. Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 7.5m, DraftKings $5,800) grabbed his third goal in four with the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Everton, while frontman Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, DraftKings $6,100) has served up four goals and three assists in five outings.

Alexis Sanchez (FantasyBet 11m) maintained his best run of the season against West Brom last night – the Chilean’s brace against the Baggies means he’s produced points in seven successive matches ahead of a trip to Sunderland. Likewise, Sergio Aguero’s (FantasyBet 13m, DraftKings $8,700) strike at Newcastle was a sixth goal in four and the Argentine appears indispensable for a home tie against a Stoke side that have recently leaked four goals to both Spurs and Liverpool.

Poundstretchers

Leicester City’s may have conceded twice to West Ham but five consecutive clean sheets prior to that set-back bodes well for the Foxes defence as they welcome Swansea to the King Power Stadium. Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m) could be in line for a 15th shut-out of the campaign against a side that failed to score at Newcastle last time out.

Jurgen Klopp will have one eye on the upcoming Europa League tie and could well decide to rest and rotate his squad, as evidenced by last week’s team sheet at Bournemouth. That could allow opportunities for some fringe players to make rare starts against Newcastle and provides some budget routes into an in-form Reds team, with the likes of Kolo Toure (FantasyBet 4m, DraftKings $2,300 ) and youngsters Sheyi Ojo (FantasyBet 5m, DraftKings $3,200) and Jordan Ibe (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $3,100), who both picked up an assist in recent appearances, potential budget enablers if you’re willing to gamble on the German making wholesale alterations once again.

We backed Andros Townsend (FantasyBet 5.5m, DraftKings $5,600) last week and the Newcastle winger duly delivered with a goal and assist. Klopp’s potential to rotate means we’re sticking with the Magpies man ahead of their vital trip to Anfield.

Chelsea have struggled for a semblance of resilience in recent matches and registered a single clean sheet – against Aston Villa – over the last nine. Bournemouth should fancy their chances against the champions, then, and Josh King (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings Forward $4,400) looks an in-form budget option for the Cherries, with four goals and an assist in six outings.

Arsenal have conceded eight goals in their last four away trips which should give Sunderland fans some hope as the Gunners travel to the Stadium of Light just three days after hosting West Brom. Jermain Defoe (FantasyBet 5m) scored a 13th goal of the season at Norwich and, with three strikes in five, may well be the difference for Big Sam’s men.

Would you do Ozil -> Sanchez for a -4?
    A) Yes, how the hell do you not have him yet
    B) No, it's too sideways. Keep the faith Slamdog

I was going to do this last week but I figured it was a bit too sideways. Obviously the wrong decision in hindsight, however, I'm faced with the same dilemma again this week... yay 😀

I was just about to ask the same question. I'd jumped to 700 overall before Sánchez let rip last night. I lost 1,000 places and top spot in all but a couple of my mini leagues because of him. Now I'm bricking it that the same could happen again and Ozil just isn't coming up with anything at the moment. I think I might have to do it as I was planning on a -4 next week to get players in for the DGW anyway. Can't see past Alexis captain against Norwich next week and I need to get in either Defoe or Carroll (depending if continues to start.

Top 5 players you want to own for this week ?

    For me :
Kane, Mahrez, Aguero, Rose, Alli in that order. Would add a Leic defender but unsure which of Fuchs/Morgan/Huth

      Kane Fuchs Alderweireld Sanchez Pelle.

I don't trust Aguero's gametime over the next 2 weeks and think he may even be benched this week.

Sturridge would get in there if for GW35 only but I can't see him starting 3 games in 8 days.

Sturridge likely rotated for Europa especially with Origi out now..

I disagree with your Kun prediction, he's never benched by City when fit, like ever.. I know they've never been in a semi CL tie before but still fancy Pelle to be under pressure to hold onto 4th spot / challenge for 3rd and he has said himself that his players need to keep playing to keep their form up.. He may get a cameo but I think it'll be enough.

It's 3 days before the biggest game in City's history.

Aguero may start, he may be benched, neither would surprise me. But his gametime will be protected in GW35&36 one way or another.

City don't need Aguero in order to beat Stoke at the Etihad.

So? In suggesting that his gametime will be managed over the next 2 games am I saying something unreasonable? Or is it that the idea just doesn't suit you?

                  WED 4 MAY 2016 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
                  Real Madrid v Man City

That's the factual evidence. Everything else is bound to be opinion. I didn't say "Aguero won't start". I said "I don't trust his gametime". Pretty simple to see why I'd have thought.

Fair enough. He's started and played 80+ minutes in all PL games before champions league games previously though.

Nothing wrong with caution i guess and for that reason i'll be captaining Harry.

I get that, and in most cases that would spell out huge rotation.. However I think it's different with City + Kun.

It's not a question of what City need in my opinion, they probably could beat Stoke comfortably without Kun / KdB at the Etihad, but I don't think Pelle wants to do that, as he's only mentioned that he needs his players to keep focused and motivated on all fronts to keep their form up..

I think you're right in a sense, and I expect both to be subbed off after an hour if they're winning, but I definitely see City starting with Kun and probably KdB (although his long term injury might still be fatiguing him, no idea) giving them enough time to warrant playing them.

You could well be right. We'll see. But I'd rather have 2x90 minutes of Kane right now than 2x60 minutes of Aguero.

Pellegrini's quotes that I have seen say that the best preparation is to win, score goals and keep a CS. I don't think that says anything about Aguero either way.

Just hit the button of Payet Lukaku to Alli and Kane (-4). Play defence of Simpson Gabriel Clyne or bring in Rose/PVA for -8?

Hesitant to take another hit for a single GW player and PVA probably wont deliver many points this week. Would benefit in not having to rely on both Gabriel and Mitro

      Mignolet
      Sakho - Bellerin - Mangala - Simpson
      Ozil - Coutinho - Navas
      Aguero - Welbeck - LUKAKU

      Robles, SMALLING, LENNON, PAYET

      2FT & £0.0 ITB.

      A) Lukaku + Lennon -> Pelle & Alli (12 playing)
      B) Lukaku + Lennon -> Martial & Alli (11 playing but great fixtures next for Martial)
      C) Take a hit with Navas -> £6.5mid

      Darlow (Roubles)
      Gabriel Sakho Lovren Evans (Delaney)
      Sanchez KDB Coutinho (Payet, Lingard)
      Aguero, Kane (Lukaku)

2FT- Thinking Delaney and Gabriel as the two out as I want Payet, Lukaku and Lingard for the DGW. Is going for double sunderland defence madness?

Gabriel will probably start. I'd keep him. You need yourself a Spurs defender. Can you afford one for Delaney?

Bank is empty so would have to go for a Leicester player if i dont get sunderland.
Gabriel is so awful. If he starts (i reckon its 50/50) Arsenal will then probably concede. And going forward Gabriel will be rotated with Mert so happy to get rid

If I had 2FT. With 10 starters. I'd do Lukaku > Pelle. And maybe Delaney/Gabriel > PVA since you'll have him for the rest of the season

Lukaku has bournemouth and then a DKW. I know everton look awful but i cant bring myself to drop him with that coming up

Only have 9 starters including Sakho, Coutinho, Firmino, KDB, Kun. Even if I take a -8 I probably won't end up with 11 true starters. Such a ball buster.

I feel foul to the same rotation; really didn't see it coming.

Currently sitting on 10 players with Gabriel, Lovren, Coutinho, KDB and Mitrovic.

Not sure if he's worth the risk. And you definitely won't be captaining him. So no.

          Also, NewC have become better.

Mitrovic, Coutinho, KDB, Lovren and Gabriel

All have potential to be rotated this week (I did not predict carnage on such a scale!)

If I'm already planning to do Martial --> Kane to field 11:

      1) How many hits is it worth taking to ensure a full starting 11?
      2) Who are the priorities to get rid of and who should I replace them with?

There's nothing wrong with him. Read scout tweets Pelle says they need to beat stoke, score goals, and keep a clean sheet in preparation for Madrid.

Could start (Silva only just coming back from injury). Team news section has him starting but having player 180 minutes in last two I would be surprised if he was rested.
