Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 35

Yaya Toure looks set to miss City’s Champions League encounter with Real Madrid. Leonardo Ulloa is forced off during Leicester’s win over Swansea with a back problem, whilst Gary Cahill misses Chelsea’s win at Bournemouth due to illness.

Bournemouth
Assistant manager Jason Tindall confirmed that Max Gradel sat out Bournemouth’s defeat to Chelsea because of a dead leg:

“We’re hoping it is not too serious, we will have to assess it as the days go by”

Chelsea
Guus Hiddink revealed that Gary Cahill missed the Cherries encounter due to illness:

“Gary Cahill was with us. He was vomiting and had a problem with his stomach. He was rather weak physically.”

Looking ahead to the Blues’ double Gameweek 37 (sun & liv), Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic represent the safest routes into their rearguard right now. That being said, Chelsea recorded a solitary clean sheet in their last ten outings, with the absence of John Terry forcing Ivanovic to play at centre-half. With the Blues skipper not ruling out a return in time for next Monday’s clash with Spurs, though, Ivanovic’s prospects of attacking returns will surely take a turn for the better if he’s unleashed from right-back once again.

Leicester City
Leonardo Ulloa revealed that he suffered back spasms in the final stages of Leicester City’s win over Swansea City. The centre-forward – who was forced off in the latter stages of the 4-0 triumph – will need to be assessed ahead of a trip to Manchester United:

“In the last play I felt it a little in my back and so I will wait and see. But I feel it a little bit still.”

Having netted three goals in two appearances, Ulloa has proved pivotal to the Foxes recent displays. After missing out through suspension against the Swansea, Jamie Vardy is now set for an FA hearing on his improper conduct charge later today and any possible extension to his ban looks likely to hand Ulloa the chance to retain his starting berth, providing he overcomes his back issue.

Liverpool
Mamadou Sakho has been rendered unavailable for selection by Liverpool pending an investigation by UEFA regarding his failed drugs test. Presenting his thoughts on the situation, Jurgen Klopp said that he’s not spoken to the Frenchman since the news broke:

“I’m really limited in what I can say. There is an official statement from the club and there’s nothing else to say in this moment. I’ve had no chance (to speak to him). I’ve known since yesterday when we went to the hotel. It’s not the easiest situation that’s for sure but all we could say about this we will say next week when we know more probably. I heard about it before I made the line-up so I’ve no idea. We changed a lot of players in the last few games. There’s nothing to say about us missing Mama today.”

Nathaniel Clyne was not in contention for Liverpool’s home clash against Newcastle United due to illness.

By virtue of the Reds’ success in the Europa League, domestic fixtures have taken a back seat of late, making it exceedingly difficult to accurately predict their team sheets. Ironically, this has come at a time where Alberto Moreno has delivered his best displays of the season – the left-back has started four of the last five and has delivered one goal and three assists in his previous trio of appearances, compared to a single assist in the first 31 Gameweeks. Given that the first of their double Gameweek 37 matches – at home to Watford – takes place just three days after their second leg against Villarreal, though, investment in Liverpool remains fraught with rotation risks.

Manchester City
Both Fernando (knee) and Yaya Toure (muscular) were withdrawn against Stoke City after picking up knocks. Whilst the latter is available for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Read Madrid, Toure – as revealed by Manuel Pellegrini earlier today – looks set to miss out and is a major doubt for the weekend visit to St Mary’s.

Pellegrini understandably rotated Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany on the weekend and looks likely to do the same at Southampton this Sunday, considering that the second leg in Spain takes place three days later. With the likes of David Silva and Raheem Sterling both recently returning from injury, the Sky Blues’ midfield is somewhat of a minefield at present, ensuring that Sergio Aguero remains the only sure-fire path into their high-powered attack.

Stoke City
Mark Hughes admitted that Ibrahim Afellay faces a nine-month spell on the sidelines following a cruciate knee ligament injury in training:

“Unfortunately, in one moment he just brought down a ball from a high position. As he came down, he landed on his knee, twisted his knee and unfortunately it looks like he’s snapped his cruciate. No one was around him, it was an innocuous moment. He’s going to be out for nine months which is a real shame for the kid because he’s had an outstanding season. He’s had difficulties in the past with injuries but this year he’s played almost every game week-in, week-out. It’s a real shame for him and us.”

Elsewhere, Hughes said that Shay Given suffered a groin injury in the first half at the Etihad:

“He felt his groin about 20 minutes in. He felt he could get to half-time, but couldn’t continue after that.”

Nonetheless, reports suggest that the Irish shot-stopper’s problem is not serious as the Potters prepare for the visit of Big Sam’s Sunderland.

Watford
Etienne Capoue had to be stretchered off at the 32-minute mark of Watford’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace due to a knee injury. Quique Sanchez Flores conceded that the prognosis doesn’t look great for the French enforcer:

“We’re not sure but it’s serious. It was impossible for us to keep him on the pitch, which was a pity because he is one of our main players. It is his knee but we don’t know exactly what the injury is. I imagine he’ll have a scan tomorrow.”

Run in has gone from bad to worse this weekend as I, 1st, captained Sanchez and ML 2nd captained Tadic, catapulting him into 1st by 36 points. I'm debating Aguero/Milner --> Carrol/Pedro in preparation for the DGW. Crazy, methodical or worth the hit'n'hope? Thanks!

Don't rush the transfer. Hold your fire until Friday after pressers. Make sure you don't have any last minute injuries.

Not sure about Pedro in that move... and you might want to keep Aguero as he's angling for the golden boot

yeah I'm really not sure either, just acting on a bit of desperation as I've been top the whole season and this week he's finally caught up to me by using his wildcard in 33 and I was forced to use mine early Feb.

I dunno what I feel more bad for...a person captaining Tadic or a person competing at end of season with such a person 😉

[yeah... week 37 portion is always the same, except I have to drop Sakho to afford Sturridge regardless]

    Option A)

    (assuming Europa goes okay...)
    week 36
Sakho to cheap defender to fund
    Mitrovic to Sturridge -4

    week 37
    Ozil to Coutinho
Aguero to 3rd DGW striker -4

    Option B)

    week 36
    Mitrovic to Deeney

    week 37
    Ozil to Coutinho
Aguero to 3rd DGW striker -4

    Option C)

    week 36
    Mitrovic to Lukaku

    week 37
    Ozil to Coutinho
Aguero to 3rd DGW striker -4

You just cant decide for this GW before Thursday forget the next 2GWs!

If Studge plays full 90 in Europa he wont start vs Swansea, If Lukaku scores brace vs Bou you would want him instead...lot of ifss and buts..better take no hit this week and be ready to take 2-3 in next GW

Yeah... but you're not reckless anymore 😉

I left out that I'm committed to getting Naismith in for Aguero in week 37 at the hazard of everyone thinking I'm insane... but a DGW plus revenge visit to Goodison in 38 has the apple of my eye

Won't be all that into Coutinho except can't see any mids of interest beyond West Ham (have 2) and Liverpool (already have Firmino) for the DGW. Open to recommendations on DGW mids that I'm blind to... but, for example, rather have Coutinho for partial minutes than Khazri for a full 180.

        Cheers for the reply !

Kind of surprised you all think I need to ship Martial. He was on goals imminent and scored this week so he must be doing something right. Defoe and Borini are on my mind but I also have Mitrovic I have to deal with. I could give him another week but he has been a huge disappointment. I could go Caroll but I doubt whether that's an upgrade on Martial and going Rashford feels sideways.

The rotation has hit Liverpool's defence hard so clean sheets might be hard to come by and Defoe/Borini seems like a coin flip.

      Thanks lads.

Is Defoe on pens? If not I don't see the appeal given that Sunderland will probably protect narrow leads. I can't seem them exploding given their situation.

Carroll on the other hand is getting better service and West Ham could explode especially in the next two games.

I'm tempted to take a punt on Hazard, FT in for Alli. Already have Kane up top so good chance I'll be rewarded for Spurs attack anyway.

Would be my first major risk all year and I have loads ITB, so why not?

Yeah he already burned me at the start of the season, kept him a little too long. But it's a game.
I'm just outside the 10k and it will take a silly punt like this to get me inside it. (I have no chips left)

Hi guys, couple of questions here:

Stuck with Coutinho, KDB and Mitrovic

Would you sell all for a -8?

What about Fabregas Firmino Carroll as a replacement?
(Can only fit in Hazard if I find 0.8 somewhere)

Only one there that really needs to go is Mitrovic and only because Rafa is a nutter that won't play the guy that creates more scoring threat for the whole team every time he's on the pitch

Which one has to go first? Sakho because he's definitely out for the time being?

        Robles/Darlow
        Bellerín Gabriel Mangala Delaney Sakho
        Sanchez KDB Coutinho Payet Loftus-Cheek
        Aguero Kane Mitrovic

There are even more problems than I thought.

Out of those, Sakho is the real urgency. RLC can be benched, so can Gabriel. Maybe take Coutinho out since he's pretty much rested for EL.

FANTASY FOOTBALL £5 BUY-IN LEAGUE UPDATE:

With only a handful of matches to go, the race for the prizes in my £5 buy-in league is hotting up.

James Carsers 'One Man Clapping' team continue their relentless pursuit to 50% of the pot. With an OR rank of 221, he currently sits 52 points off his nearest competitor. With his triple captaincy on Kane this week, he will be hoping to climb even further up the ranks and cement his prize.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/4458/event-history/35/

In second place, hoping to win 30% of the total pot, and with a very respectable rank of 2,042 is Colin B's 'Ajax Treesdown'. With his captain (Aguero) already having played, and a few issues in his squad such as Sakho, De Bruyne, Mitrovic and Darren Fletcher, it is going to take some exceptional tinkering for him to oust One Man Clapping from first place and he may well be looking over his shoulder at the gathering pack.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/5491/event-history/35/

Lee Byron's 'Gunners XI' is Ajax Treesdowns closest competitor. Currently ranked at 2,220 and only 2 points off from 2nd, Lee will be hoping for some big points from captain Kane. His score of 52 this week has helped him close a 20 points gap, and hats off to the management for their selections this week. Currently he stands to win 20% of the pot but may be hopeful of more returns and sits 29 points away from Spencer, in 4th place.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/7305/standings/

What do we reckon folks? Who will take the lions share of the pot, and who will be left with the crumbs?
