DraftKings – Thursday Player Picks

There’s just over 24 hours left until the Euro 2016 quarter-finals get underway, with DraftKings managers afforded a pair of fixtures over Thursday and Friday to assemble their eight-man squads from.

As we revealed yesterday, if you’ve yet to register, DraftKings are offering the opportunity of free entry to an upcoming contest for the quarter-finals over Thursday and Friday’s matches.

Providing you sign up via this link before 4pm on Thursday, your account will be credited with $3 by 6pm that day. Players should then use the credit amount to enter the “EUROS $13k Striker” contest on Thursday.

The first match of the quarter-finals sees Poland and Portugal go head-to-head for a place in the last four at 8pm tomorrow evening.

Both sides required extra-time to advance past the Round of 16, with Poland defeating Switzerland on spot-kicks, whilst the Portuguese progressed thanks to Ricardo Quaresma’s late winner over Croatia.

Fernando Santos’ side are the slight favourites for this one. Portugal sit fourth for attempts on goal over the tournament so far and have fired almost double the number of shots on target (23 to 12) than their opponents. At the back, it’s a similar story, with Poland conceding 33 efforts inside the penalty box to Portugal’s 20.

Wales take on Belgium in Friday evening’s 8pm encounter.

Marc Wilmots’ men are heavily favoured to advance to the semi-finals after sweeping aside Hungary 4-0 in the previous round. Certainly, the underlying stats underline the Red Devils’ attacking potential – they have registered more goals and shots on target than any side so far.

Wales, however, are second only to their opponents for goals (seven to eight) and, after squeezing past Northern Ireland, boast the highest shot accuracy (51.1%) in the tournament. In defence, Chris Coleman’s side have conceded less attempts inside the box that the Belgians and have the form to make a mockery of their underdog tag.

Fortunately, DraftKings allows us to scan the teamsheets before each fixture, adjusting your line-ups in search of some last-minute bargains.

Here’s our selection of DraftKings targets to help guide your picks ahead of Saturday’s contests.

Gareth Bale – Wales – $10200
Joint-top scorer for the tournament so far, the Wales talisman also leads the way when it comes to efforts on target – a total of 13 is five more than any player after four rounds of fixtures. As evidenced by his crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, Bale will be vital to Wales’ progress and we can expect him to pose Thibaut Courtois plenty of problems as Chris Coleman’s men look to cement a place in the semi-finals.

Eden Hazard – Belgium – $8500
The Belgium wide man finally sparked into life last time out with a goal and assist in the 4-0 demolition of Hungary. More budget-friendly than team-mate Kevin de Bruyne ($9700), Hazard registered three shots and four key passes against the Magyars and, after a slow start to Euro 2016, looks to be building momentum for the last eight. It’s worth noting that Hazard is a slight doubt for the match after picking up a thigh problem.

Jakub Blaszczykowski – Poland – $6100
Restored to the starting XI for the win over Switzerland, the Poland winger grabbed the opener to take his tally to two strikes and an assist for the tournament – essentially, he’s played a part in all his nation’s goals so far. Given that he sits second for crosses and is top for successful tackles amongst Adam Nawalka’s squad, Blaszczykowski looks an excellent all-round option for our eight-man DraftKings squads.

Raphael Guerreiro – Portugal – $4900
The defender offers a reliable route into the Portugal rearguard at a time where uncertainty surrounds the right-back berth. Despite missing the final group match, Guerreiro still leads the way when it comes to successful tackles for Fernando Santos’ side and his raids down the flank have delivered 16 crosses – third highest in the squad. Having also supplied six key passes, his creativity could be vital to his nation’s prospects of progressing. Guerreiro picked up a minor muscle problem during the extra-time win over Croatia but has since returned to training earlier today, according to reports.

DraftKings contests for Thursday and Friday’s matches are now available, including the above-mentioned $3 entry “Striker” with a $13k prize pot. Those yet to register should check out this link to take advantage of the free entry offer.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

    Which team do you prefer?

    A
    Fab/Neur
    Chester/Hector/Meunier/Sagna/Guer
    KDB/Hazard/Sanche//RamseyPayet
    Muller/bale/lukaku

    B
    Fab/Neur
    Chester/Hector/Meunier/Sagna/Giac
    Pogba/KDB/Payet/Ramsay/Sanches
    Bale/muller/lukaku

Will go with majority votes, edging towards A myself but any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Do you think France will keep a clean sheet? Another option I have is to keep rami but have the following team:

        Fab\neur
        Sagna/hector/Meunier/Chester/guerr
        Grosicki/Sanches/Payet/KDB/Ramsey
        Ronaldo/muller/lukaku

Renato Sanches helps enable a fantastic strike force but if Portugal get eliminated there aren't any replacements around the price. Do you think 6 transfers will be more than enough to provide your team a good structure again?

I've got Renato Sanches and Ronaldo so if they don't make it i'll have to get rid of Ronaldo which will free up some money.

Bench him in that case and go with 14 players. Won't get another mid in semis at that price and one less transfer to make.

Think I'm going to take a hit..currently just inside the top 1k

    Hennessey - De Gea
    Hector - Meunier - Jedrzejczyk - Rami - Dier
    Hazard - Ozil - Payet - Perisic - Ramsey
    Muller - Bale - Milik

DDG, Dier, Rami, Perisic, Ramsey > Neuer, Guerreiro, Umtiti, De Bruyne, Drazler. 0.4m left over

      Would get Lloris over Neuer.
I genuinely don't think a hit is worth it. Is there anyway you could get De Bruyne for free?

if I do all the same moves, but keep Rami instead of getting Umtiti, I would be 0.6m short so would need to sell Bale instead of Ramsey and forgo Draxler (or some other solution)

I see... one transfer benefits the other.
In this case, I can see the potential upside in taking a hit.

With Lloris over Neuer I think you're gtg 😀

I see below you don't rate Draxler, how come? I'm usually one that tries to avoid the 'knee jerk' but this is a short tournament and I'd imagine Germany would want to feed the hot hand. Could technically afford Grosicki on the dot.

Germany - Italy looks like a low scoring game.
If Germany are to score, the chances of it being Draxler are very low.

I just think Draxler has a very little chance of exploding, while Grosicki has a better one.

For Italy vs Germany i've gone with no Italian players and four German player. Its a tough game to call so do you think i should spread the risk as I'm on my WC or gamble. I'm currently 23pts ahead in a cash league.

The game is played before France v Iceland and you can have 4 France players (including GK) on the bench. For that reason I'd have one defender from each and leave it at that.

If I were chasing I'd have no German players at all. But I really can't see Germany rolling Italy over anyway, maybe a 1-0 either way. So German attackers are of limited appeal. It looks like the lowest-scoring game of the four to me.

I'd therefore rather have my attackers from Poland, Belgium and France and maybe Portugal if you fancy Ronaldo or Wales if you fancy Bale (though I'd personally prefer Lewandowski).

Considering I already have Payet, Giroud, KDB, Meunier and Henessey as second keeper.

    A) Patricio, Renato Sanches, Hazard, Sagna

    B) Lloris, Pogba, Nanggolian, Guirriero/Fonte

Currently on B should I do A if Renato Sanches starts ?

Amazing the amount of flack Harry Kane is getting. He got no service and was forced to take set pieces for some reason. What do you want him to do, beat 5 defenders and smash one into the top corner out of nothing?

I haven't seen that at all. Mainly it is being put down to Hodgson. Actually it is the FA that are to blame for appointing him in the first place and keeping him after World Cup 2014.

Using my WC this round. Leading my ML (£200 for the winner). I don't feel like I should need any differentials, but I have still selected the following team:

    Fabianski (Lloris)
    Guerrerio, Meunier, Hector, Giaccherini (Sagna)
Renato Sanchez, Hazard, KDB, Payet (Pogba)
    Ronaldo, Eder (Griezmann)

    5x FRA
    3x BEL
    3x POR
    2x ITA
    1x GER
    1x POL

Thought on this? I really fancy Pogba against Iceland, but then again I fancied Lallana against Iceland last round and that gave me 0 points...

      Milik
Who do you think will win? Poland, Italy, or Germany?
Just decide for yourself and pick that striker 🙂

    Gtg?
    Hennessay randolph
    Giaccharini hector Guierrero meunier rami
    Kdb hazard kroos payet jmario
    Gomez bale ronaldo
Not going to take a hit for the non players. My question I guess is I could take sanches instead of jmario and then a French def instead of Giaccharini. 0.4 in bank with this team.

Is Kos the best French defender to go for?

I would say so. He has a habit of scoring important goals for Arsenal.

What do we think here lads how am I looking? This is not off a WC, just using the 4 free transfers.

    Hennessey/Lloris

    Guerriero-Hector-Munier-Rami-Chester

    KDB-Kroos-Payet-Draxler-Ramsey

    Ronaldo-Giroud-Bale

    I did:
    Dier---->Guerriero
    Perisic---->Draxler
    De Gea----->Lloris
    Muller------>Ronaldo
