The Community Round Up

This week’s launch of the Fantasy Premier League game gave the community their first glimpse of the 2016/17 player price list.

Understandably, initial squad selection dominated our hot topics, while our community writers took a look at the best newcomers to the Premier League and unveiled plans to track FPL’s most experienced managers.

We also launched the first of our Rate My Team surgeries, looked at the community competitions that have launched and examined some key attacking statistics for those looking to draft in next season’s Golden Boot contenders.

The Community Articles

Thursday saw the launch of our first 2016/17 Rate My Team surgery, which offers a dedicated community article for those wanting their initial FPL squads rated. To start the series, I submitted my unsurprisingly dull selection, which pays particular attention to fixtures and flexibility.

Next season will see an expansion of Kavali’s Tracking the Veterans series, which monitors FPL’s most experienced managers and their decisions. For 2016/17 he is offering FPL stalwarts the chance to join the expanded group he is tracking and also the opportunity for less experienced managers to take them on.

Another returning regular community feature is The Puntmaster’s analysis of how next season’s Premier League players would have fared if FPL points were applied to their previous campaign, whether abroad or in a lower tier of English football.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With the FPL player list available, a raft of posts followed, delving into the most eye-catching picks. As well as finding out who the best maverick and dullard players are, we also asked for your views on 2016/17’s top bargains, with Eden Hazardous urging investment in Bournemouth’s keenly priced winger Max Gradel.

Among the most popular early picks is Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been selected by just under a third of FPL managers so far. Bowstring the Carp believes that, despite his 11.5 price tag, the Swede is set for an excellent debut Premier League campaign.

The same cannot be said for defensive midfielders, who once again look set to miss out on points under FPL’s scoring system. We asked whether it was time to finally reward these protectors of the back line.

Another set of players who may not offer value are those with a short fuse, who like to use colourful language in front of referees. This season the Football Association and Premier League have announced a crackdown on dissent, which, according to our hot topic, could mean suspensions for some of the most popular players among Fantasy managers.

To help FPL managers select the best attacking players, Berbinho’s Forehead has gathered a wealth of key statistics over the last three years. Ludo has also been collecting attacking data with the conclusion that combining shots on target and big chances are the best way to predict goals.

We discovered that expectations of success are running high, according to Dazzy’s hot topic asking for the community’s realistic rank expectations this season. Elsewhere, Zasa was on hand with some valuable advice to new posters to help them get noticed.

The Members Tables

To add to Ludo’s analysis, my table on shots on target and big chances gives an indication as to who last season’s key players were. This is worth bookmarking to keep tabs on who this season’s Golden Boot contenders may be. Our Members area’s most popular table, Doosra’s Deadly Assassins, provides further insight into the art of goal scoring.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Oghash is offering free FFScout membership to the winner of his Gameweek 1 score prediction competition. Among the community’s head to head contests is Jac the Cat‘s search for FPL’s top players to compete against each other.

Meanwhile, Red Lightning has announced the launch of his opening day and Top 10K any season leagues, in addition to asking for details about the community’s other leagues. Among those to answer the call were Torres Magic, with news of his Last Man Standing league, and Oghash, who unveiled his Dead Zone league.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

The custom filters are amazing on the new ticker. Those slide bars and additional tab are awesome.

Just made a 'Binary' filter where a fixture is either favourable or unfavourable (Bright blue or dark red). Makes it really clear to spot CSs 🙂

I was thinking the same mate, I'm thinking wait until Gameweek 2/3 when the big guns are all definitely back, get a few players in who will make a bit of revenue. Now that the WC is first half and aecond half of the season you may aswell use it early?

Thanks guys. After GW3 with the IB seems the popular choice. So that's a GW4 WC. Loading up on United City and Chelsea for those first three GWs seems tempting tbh

    If I told you my defence is 4.5 4.5 4.5 4.5 4.0, you'd laugh. Then you'd copy with that stupid GW4 wildcard.

So stuck between Vardy and Lukaku!! Vardy's first game against Hull looks so promising given all their injuries and with Bruce quitting.. but at the same time lukaku being given a 9m price tag seems like a bargain! any thoughts?

Vardy looks good for first game.
If Lukaku stays at Everton , looks the better long term pick.
      Everton have a great run
And if not , still the better long term pick

      Stuck with the same problem.

I feel like vardy is going to destroy hull, yet don't really have faith in him this season to be honest. I feel like Leicester finished the season looking very bland. They Sort of limped over the line due to sheer determination rather than free flowing quality football, and if they continue just scraping 1-0 wins then they (vardy and mahrez) won't be worth it

      I like it. Few things...

Double up on WBA is a tad risky, isn't McAuley 5.0 too? Plenty of other options.

Long may not start, but we could know at the start of the season, if not maybe one of the nailed on options like Wilson or Gray

Personally I would downgrade bellerin to kosc, allowing you to upgrade your 4.0 defender to a 4.5, but I'd imagine you've got bellerin based on his attacking potential so can understand either way

Costa is on the go, Long is not 100% a starter, Taylor is a really bad pick and there are a couple better 4.5 midfielders than Hojbjerg.

Cheers boys. I have tried to take into consideration the first few game weeks, also wary of long not 100% starting however going to keep an eye on the friendlys. I also don't believe that Costa will be going anywhere but will wait and see. As for Taylor - a nice cheap full back with good fixtures. I'm not complaining there, did you see his Worldy at the Euros?

I see there are three types of teams here.
          1. With both Aguero and Ibra - 2 premium mids with them and the rest of the team is made by 'Value' players.
          2. With Aguero without Ibra - 3 premium mids with Lukaku being the second striker in most teams and a good defnse.
          3. Without Aguero and Ibra - it frees up a lot of cash and the front 7 look amazing, but no obvious captain choices due to the lack of these two.

Every one of these 3 strategies have their pros and cons.
Which one are you currently on and why?

With Ibra, no Kun, 3 premium mids, 2 premium D, rest value. More versatility when everything goes to s--t by gameweek 3.

            1, just.

Gives the best ability to pivot to whoever comes to form the way i see it.

Just thrown a first proper draft together.. Thoughts guys? Anything obviously wrong?

          Valdes - Jako
          Baines - Dann - Azpil - McAuley - Naylor
          Martial - Bolasie - Siggy - Tadic - Gradel
          Aguero - Costa - Gray

Yeah possibly.. Seeing so much value in the 6.0-7.5 bracket though

The midfield is very poor. I'd take money from the defence and invest into the midfield.

Directed at someone who knows more about Chelsea than me: does Ivan represent good value at 6.0?

Azpi looks better for me, but I'm only going by last season.

I'd like to see a year-on-year cumulative FPL, as well as the one off season style as is now.

Where either you just add to the previous years score and/or you start the season with same team/value as you end the last season.

Haven't worked out the details yet.

Am I right in assuming Ake will play CB for Bournemouth?

It would free Francis to play full back!

He was loaned there last season from Chelsea. He's loaned to Bournemouth this season.

According to the Guardian The Dutchman, who can play at left-back and in midfield, spent last season on loan at Watford.

He played as a right-back in the 2nd half of Bournemouth's first pre-season game, by the looks of things: http://www.afcb.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/match-report-minnesota-united-0-4-afc-bournemouth-pre-season-3197872.aspx

Balls, really hope that doesn't happen. Francis' attacking stats when at RB are fantastic.
