The penultimate team in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are West Brom.

We get our analysis underway by assessing the Baggies team statistics and compare them to the rest of the Premier League and their previous league campaign. We then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources with one eye on the season kick-off in just over two weeks’ time.

The Baggies finished in fourteenth position last time out – just six points clear of the drop zone – after a dire run of form saw them draw four and lose five of their final nine league fixtures.

Pulis’ side struggled for a cutting edge and managed to find the net on just 34 occasions – down on their 38 goals from 2014/15 and a tally superior only to basement-dwellers Villa.

          Is this the thing about United giving Martial's squad number to Zlatan?

          This frustration probably has little to do with Mourinho, and I can't see Martial not playing, or playing worse for that reason. Martial is upset mad because he had launched his brand AM9 just a few weeks before, and now ManU literally ruined it, which is probably worth a big money to Martial who is a commercially important name - by far ManU's best shirt seller (no. 3 in world and way above Zlatan).

          While that could in fact initiate a transfer, for purely financial reasons, I would be surprised if it affected Martial's and Mourinho's relationship as such.

            Maybe Martial will have problems with Zlatan, though, after the latter announced having "picked the no. 9", without asking Martial first. We may see Zlatan trying to establish a hierarchy and Martial having none of it. Or not. This is a little destabilising. They should have asked Martial before letting Zlatan just choose to wear his number.

              Great couple of paragraphs.

              My thoughts exactly, I think Martial will put aside the issue with MUN and Jose... However, I can see friction between him and Zlatan.

              Last thing Jose wants is a fragmented dressing room right off the bat... normally it takes at least 2 to 3 years with him!

    Aguero had a long summer and looks fat, Pep will tinker with formations, they'll have a pretty short pre-season..I'm tempted to start with a strikeforce of Ibra/Kaku/Costa, expensive enough that I can shift over to Kun if need be but not go all in on him from the start

    Here is the updated version of my New Players Analysis Spreadsheet.

    The main new feature is the "value" column being filled in with the launch of the new game. The mathematics of this is explained on the spreadsheet but it is basically a good way of comparing players of a similar price (the bigger the difference in price the less reliable).

    Finally, I am going to be added an extra sheet called "VS". Some of you may remember this from last year. I am looking for the decisions you are struggling to make. For example, Payet or Mkh and Lukaku or Costa. If you drop them in the comments below I will pit them against each other with all the stats, points per app and value for you!

    - I like cheap as possible goalies and the Hull man is nailed on for a while, Pickford I believe will take Mannones place in the lineup at some point

    - Gabriel and Terry are subject to change if their respective clubs buy new centre backs, the first 3 will play every week. Lenihan and Wilson are the 4.0s i believe will play the most.

    - Midfield I'm pretty settled on, Leko could become Capoue.

    - Like my strikers too but Rooney could become Lukaku/Giroud if United attack feels too much

      Awful if I'm honest.

      You can have that poor of a bench. Especially when you have Both Mkhi and Rooney who could both be completing for the same spot. And then to have Leko, who isn't guaranteed you could easy end up not fielding 11 men considering you have two 4.0 defenders. It looks like you should have a million or two in the bank with that team. Sorry to be negative but I'm struggling to draw positives. I'd go back to the drawing board.

        yeah it's a bit scary, but Aguero had a long summer and looks fat, Pep will certainly tinker with squads/formations, they'll have a pretty short pre-season..ideally I'd start with Kaku over the 6.5m forward but it would probably mean downgrading the defense and ruining the price balance

      nicely balanced team with solid picks. Clearly, going Kunless is an active decision. Many would disagree as would I, but good luck.

      I would much rather have Aguero + Martial/Mkh instead of Ibra and KDB.

        I will LIKELY go that route, but I need to see how City fare leading up to MD1 and also see the remaining transfers of the market. iirc Pogba plays LCM, so I think the French connection with Martial (plus the added benefit of Shaw behind him this season instead of a different LB every half) will be solid.

          It is good to tinker now to get a feeling for certain team shapes/budget constraints etc but the decision on the final personnel needs to wait.

      It could score well, but structurally it is too risky for me.

      I like to have at least 1 expensive midfielder to give flexibility with the transfers. I know you are happy to resort to an early WC but I think the current set up would be a mistake.

        Only if conte plays the 3-5-2 formation. If he plays 4-2-4, there is no space for cesc (assuming he plays matic and kante in CM). Then again, if he plays 3-5-2, oscar is also suitable to play in the CAM position.
