The Weekend Team News

Jan Vertonghen recovers from injury in time for Spurs’ trip to Goodison. Laurent Koscielny is still unavailable for Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool. Ashley Williams misses out for the Toffees, who have worries at both ends of the pitch, whilst Southampton have defensive concerns as Watford roll up to St Mary’s.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is optimistic that left-back Stephen Ward will shrug off a hamstring problem in time for the home clash against Swansea. Jon Flanagan has stepped up his fitness in training, whilst Ashley Barnes (hamstring) is expected to miss out.

Alan Pardew was somewhat reluctant to give away any information for Palace’s clash against West Brom. The Eagles boss conceded he’s still trying to get one or two players “up to full speed”.

Laurent Koscielny is “not ready” to return for Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool, according to Arsene Wenger.

Ashley Williams misses his debut for Everton due to a lack of match fitness, according to Ronald Koeman. Seamus Coleman and Romelu Lukaku are doubtful for the visit of Tottenham, though Phil Jagielka has been passed fit.

Claudio Ranieri has no injury concerns for Leicester’s trip to Hull, though the champions are without Robert Huth due to suspension. The Foxes manager has admitted he doesn’t expect his side to reach last year’s fitness levels “until the fifth or sixth game”.

Aitor Karanka has revealed that Bernardo Espinoza, Daniel Ayala and Grant Leadbitter will all miss Middlesbrough’s home encounter against Stoke.

Southampton pair Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares will have their fitness assessed after a late return to training due to their exertions for Portugal in Euro 2016. Ryan Bertrand misses out with a knee injury.

Glen Johnson is Stoke’s only injury worry for their trip to the Riverside. Marko Arnautovic is expected to feature after stepping up his recovery from a minor hamstring issue, whilst Xherdan Shaqiri is available, having shrugged off a knock.

Jermain Defoe has declared himself available for Sunderland’s trip to Man City. Jan Kirchhoff, Billy Jones and Seb Larsson all remain doubts.

Francesco Guidolin has admitted that Swansea’s record signing Borja Baston is unlikely to be involved in the weekend trip to Burnley.

Jan Vertonghen has recovered from the ankle injury that forced him to miss Euro 2016 and is available for Tottenham’s trip to Goodison. Mousa Dembele serves the third of a six-match suspension.

Brice Dja Djedje has been ruled out of Watford’s trip to St Mary’s, whilst fellow new boy Isaac Success is almost certainly unavailable, too. Midfield duo Valon Behrami and Adlene Guedioura are set to have their fitness assessed.

Gokhan Tore has resumed training ahead of West Ham’s trip to Chelsea on Monday evening. Diafra Sakho is still sidelined with a back problem, whilst Cheikhou Kouyate, Pedro Obiang and Darren Randolph have all recovered from knocks. Slaven Bilic has admitted Dimitri Payet isn’t fit to play 90 minutes, though the Frenchman is expected to play some part in the Stamford Bridge showdown.

Junior Stanislas has been ruled out of Bournemouth’s clash against United on Sunday. Eddie Howe has admitted he has “one or two niggles” to contend with in the squad.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s opening day deadline. You've only got one midfielder nailed to start. That would concern me. But can that forward line compensate for that?

See that's what I'm thinking?! Vardy could possibly get a hatty against Hull's defence but my mid is really short.

Nope- Hull are a total and utter disaster. No manager, owners looking to sell and fans organising a walk out on the first game. Furthermore, they only have 13 fit first team players.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Who is 'your player'? This is the player that for a few seasons now you keep turning to, whose game playe, personality and FPL performance best suit yours?

Last night on the Podcast I listed Dusan Tadic as very much my player and one I will turn to again. He's a top dullard pick due to steady point scoring and penalties. Plus I have those glorious Gwk 8 memories where he was a differential for me and a heartbreaker for his non-owners.

He's mine - who is 'your player'?

Oh, yes, except if Aguero is home to Newcastle or Spurs, naturally. 🙂

I'm going to answer slightly differently, because he's someone who I've not used previously, but I've been excited about owning since his run of form at the end of last year... and it's also Tadic. Think he's going to be great value this year.

To answer your original question... there are very few I turn to every year (Aguero excepted), so I could probably only put Hazard (accepting he's hardly differential)

Good topic, often think about it.

In all my FPL seasons before last year it was David Silva.
At one stage it was Adebayor, who give perfect points returns under Redknapp and under Sherwood.
Juan Mata were absolutely great till Mourinho return, always have a place in my team.

Aguero (C) By far the best differential I've had.

Usually when he's been off form and I keep the faith then he score's 5 goals.

Ighalo was my (and a lot of other peoples') boy last season. I wanted him from the start but was turned off by his poor opening few fixtures. His brace against Newcastle was a turning point, I got him in and didn't look back until Watford's form made me have to drop him. It was a sad day. His goal return is the reason I won all my MLs and the reason I got my first top 10k finish. Awful start again though, probably just wait and see...

      Andy Carroll.
      - We both have periods in our careers where we maybe didnt put the maximum amount of effort into our daily jobs
      - We both have periods in our lives where we fancied a beer or two too much
      - We are both impressively prone to injuries
      - We are both spectacularly good looking

Having him from the off in his Newcastle period really made a connection between us, and I've bought him atleast once a season since that. He never fails to either disappoint greatly or make me the happiest man in the world. Triplecaptaining him for the DGW last season was absolutely magnificent, even though I'd have got a few more points with another choice.

This year he will be in my team from the GW1, and hopefully we can a full season of glory together.

I won't be starting with him but mine has to be Siggy. Mid priced, excellent all around game, always involved, set pieces and now has penalties.

Walters and Baines used to be in this category. But from last season, Fuchs is someone I always had in the team and I'm starting with him.

      Nasri and Eriksen.

For some reason I can't keep away. Always managed to get Nasri for any points he scores (especially 2 seasons ago).

Just about have the patience to keep Eriksen for his 4 consecutive double digit points hauls!

Ivanovic. A solid defensive team, a full back who doesn't just lower up and down the flank, but ends up in the box more often than not in the process. Assists, clean sheets, more goals than half my midfielders most seasons. Legend.

Of all time. Frank Lampard as he is my favorite fpl player and favorite midfielder in real life. I always have him in my team from Gw 1 to the end of the season and he served me well. Of recent times, has to be the magnificent Grazing

Any news on Cabaye's chances of playing the full game tomorrow?

I know he was at the Euros, but hardly played from what I can remember. Does this mean he's likely to be rested?
