Captains

The Captain Poll – Gameweek 6

We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Hi Guys...
    WC team...g2g?

    Heaton Jaku
    Walker Baines Valencia Morgan Amat
    Sanchez Sterling Firmino(Eriksen) Antonio Capoue
    Kun Lukaku Diomande

    0.1m ITB

Firmino over Eriksen on fixtures. Diomande is worrying me though. Any suggestions?

Not too different from my team, looks good!

Please RMT, thank you! *WC activated

      Foster (Jakupovic)

      Baines Holebas McAuley (Stones) (Amat)

Puncheon Firmino Sterling (V) Sanchez Capoue

      Aguero (C) Ibrahimovic (Rashford)

Looks good. Puncheon a good differential in the midfield for now. Be wary when Cabaye is back as set pieces will shift to him.

        Three things though:

        1. Are you confident in backing the WBA defense with Foster AND McAuley?

        2. Stones play time is uncertain since Otamendi performing and Kompany back for selection.

        3. Rashford's minutes may be a problem. Since you already have Zlatan (The best way into the United attack), wouldn't it be better to go with a similarly priced striker such as Deeney who looks good on fixtures?

Just my thoughts...I could be talking complete BS. Haha Cheers!

Hey thanks for your feedback, really appreciate that!

I have actually changed it now, so only McAuley and swapped Foster for Heaton.

Stones I swapped for Sagna, just because I didn't know what else to do hehe but I would like Walker but not enough funds.

This is what I have now, so no more Puncheon unfortunately:

          Heaton (Jakupovic)

          Baines Holebas McAuley (Sagna) (Amat)

Antonio Firmino Sterling (V) Sanchez Capoue

          Aguero (C) Costa (Diomande)

Looking at Deeney, will need to either downgrade a midfielder or downgrade 2 defenders...Think I will just monitor his form for GW6. Can't afford to not play any of the mids with GW6 fixtures

    a) Sterling/Ibra to Aguero/Lallana for -4?

    OR

    b) Sterling/Ibra/Ozil to Aguero/Firmino/some garb 4.5 for -8, which will allow me to do Hazard to Sanchez next FT, then Benteke to Costa after that.

Bearing in mind that Lallana isn't exactly nailed and I will be playing Capoue as my 4th mid from now on.

So I decided to go without Ibra in the fist 2 GW. Have been trailing in my ML ever since.
Please share your thoughts on the team and possible changes to the squad which can help me gain some points

    Cech - Jaku
McAuley - Williams - Collins - Amat - Mark Smith
    Ozil - Mane - Capoue - Chadli - Antonio
    Lukaku - Ibra - Iheanacho

Can you help me with my team? At the moment i have:

    GK: Cech, Pickford

DEF: Holgate, Shaw, Morga, Collins, Love

MID: Barkley, Sanchez, Lamela, Fletcher. Sterling

    FWD: Ibra, Lukaku, Grabban

in bank i have 3,2m left.

Its ok if i put out Sanchez, Lukaku, Fletcher, Barkley and for Aguero, Capue, Firminio, Cazorla and? I dont have WC... Or what to do?

I'd play redmond over your fourth defender. His stats are decent and he's definitely due some points soon!

Don't be taking a 12 point hit for sure! Look at ways to get firminio in (maybe just take out barkley?) and be done with it?
If you were feeling a little risky I'd upgrade ibra to aguero too but I think you need to be looking at clearing out some of the dross players first! Although aguero is looking nailed for big points against Swansea!

    Heaton Adrian
    Shaw Williams Walker Pieters Amat
    Hazard Cazorla Antonio Sterling Capoue
    Ibra Lukaku Defoe

2 FT's - What's the most pressing moves for this week?

I was planning on bringing back Ageuro gw8 but plans may change if he continues to go up (i thought he would've dropped below 12.9)

I want Deeney in my side. I know he doesn't compare to Ibra but it would allow me a couple of big hitters in midfield. With Kun and Ibra it will become 'too template'. If Haz drops again i'll likely switch him out too - maybe Firmino if he's fit or i could get Sanchez for Arsenal cover and downgrade Cazorla to Snoddy. Adrian has been disappointing so might bring in Jakupovic to clear some extra funds.

Overall thoughts on my team and potential moves
    Thanks

    Hey guys what's your thoughts

    Foster

    Stones valencia walker McAuley Amat

Redmond , kdb ,Antonio, firmino , Capoue

    Auguero,Costa , Diamande

With 2.1 in the bank im not sure to get hazard back for firmino next week or use money else where and hold on as i usually play a 3-5-2
This week im thinkin 4-4-2 with redmond on bench

    De Gea (Stekelenburg)
    Walker, McAuley, Shaw (Collins, Morgan)
    Cazorla, Lallana, Sterling, Capoue, Barry
    Agüero, Ibrahimovic (Negredo)

Should I change Negredo to Rondon or Deeney, or Cazorla to Antonio with a risk of -4 pts?
And do you recommend any other changes in my starting XI?
