The ScoutCast – Episode 199 – Buttons

Jonty knows just what buttons to press.

When he slyly accuses me of adopting the template midfield, I’m visibly rattled. Leaping to defend myself, Jonty claims victory in this bout of Fantasy manager mind games and may have forced me into a hasty transfer I will come to regret.

Andy and Luke watch on, but it’s not long before they earn our attention, having pressed significant buttons of their own – both are post-Wildcard.

We analyse their Gameweeks, move to recite tales from the community and then take on another round of your questions, which finds us looking into yet another player relationship theory that will have Roberto Firmino owners rather concerned.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

You can grab the old fashioned mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or watch me get riled via the Google Hangout version in the second player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Trade one of the following:

    A) Redmond
    B) Barkley

They accompany Haz Firm and Cap
Would be down to a basement player to avoid benching dilemmas. Cheers

It would be down to a 5.5ish player so I don't end up benching Cap each week.

Bottomed so excuse rude and blatant re-post-
Morning. Bit of a longer term question. Decided that Ibra will prob become Defoe next week.
Get my strikers back to Expensive/Mid Price/ Kinda-cheap.

For this team (2FT next week)-
    Ozil/Antonio/Capoue/ Sterling (Fletcher)
    Aguero Ibra Lukaku

    A. Ibra and Fletcher to Defoe and Mane
B Ibra and Capoue to Defoe and Mane
C Ibra, Ozil and Capoue to Defoe, Sanchez and Lallana (-4)

Sorry if complex to read. Basically
A gives Mane and Capour back to 5th,
B gets Mane and Fletcher to 5th plus cash,
C is -4 gets Ozil to Sanchez but Lallana not Mane

Thanks for any input. Will try to answer questions in return now

Let's leave (C) out initially. Between the other two it's a resounding (B). Those that had Capoue got their rewards and now's the time to take the profit, otherwise you have minimum 0.4 sitting on your bench that could be in your team.

Fletcher will average around 3 points per week if fit. Capoue probably won't beat that by much from here on in and who is to say he will get anything more in the week he is subbed in?

At the same time, Mané is absoutely the 'right' Liverpool mid to get in my view. He's probably the most nailed because he offers a directness and pace that none of the others have. And those qualities should also help him in Liverpool's upcoming run against weaker opposition. I plan to bring him in for GW9 myself.

Now to (C). Well, this is trickier. Sanchez is very desirable. Do you have Walcott? He may well be involved alongside Sanchez so that when one does well the other will also tend to. If you have Walcott I'd still say (B) given you get Mané and also save a hit. If not then maybe (C).

But there is also a 4th option (which is what I am planning actually). Migrate to a 3-5-2, take Diomande as 1st sub (a better prospect of points even than Capoue) and then you'll probably find that having both Mané and Sanchez is quite doable.

Mate, cheers for such a detailed reply. Will look at the 3-5-2. I do feel i need to get Mane above other Liv mids. No dont have Walcott. Thanks again

    Pickford
    Baines l PVA l Holebas
    Sanchez l Firmino l Sterling l Antonio

I'd really love to have 2 FTs during the int break but should I use my FT to fix this wrecked defence?

With Baines confirmed to be out I just did it. Probably not wise with the break coming up but I don't want to hold him. Losing him against CPL means its going to be at least 2 weeks before its worth playing him again. In that time he'll lose value and I'll lose any points a different defender would have gotten me.

Can't see Burnley scoring vs Arsenal so I got Bellerin in.

      1. NABIL - FPL otai
        • 11 Years

Can't reach for Bellerin, only Baines & Masuaku -> Kos & 4.3 or Monreal & 4.4, for a hit. Jealous of you

I can get some && by removing Antonio or Capoue but for another hit? Really don;t think so, friend..

Yeah its not worth taking another hit for that. I think you're just stuck with Baines for the long haul. Might not be a bad thing, CS are a lottery.

            • 11 Years

Yeah with Baines I think it's pretty justified to hope for an assist or a PK, week in week out.

    3. RubeRx

might as well hold on to Baines if he is just a week away, surely will be back after the fifa break

Masuaku, on the other hand, will have to be transferred out regardless if you do it this week or next (due to the extent of his injury)

I'd prob just sit tight and wait unti next gameweek, where a CS might be more predictable than this week's crapshoot

We will also have much more information regarding injuries and/or possible suspensions

      Stay patient my friend

The thing is Baines is away to City after the break so will he even get points? Its likely that City give Everton a beating. During that time he's sure to drop since its a long break and he's got that flag on.

So you lose an expensive defender for two weeks basically and lose value. Then Everton's run becomes more difficult as well so is he even a long term keeper at that point?

All signs point to me selling Baines.

That said Masuaku is definitely the higher priority sale to make.

        1. NABIL - FPL otai
          • 11 Years
          7 years, 7 months ago

1 counter arguement for you is that City is still not that solid at the back and he might be in the points against them despite a potential beating. If I'm so sure about selling Baines, I might just do it this week but my other prob is I'm reaching to get an ARS defender.

How about this move this week?

          A. Baines & Antonio -> Bellerin & Snoddy (-4), or
          B. Masuaku & Antonio -> Kos & Snoddy (-4)

and deal with the remaining defender next week. Any good?

          Hey Dortmund

While I do agree that Baines fixture in GW8 is not favorable, my response was based on the assumption that he's on your team for the long run if you dished out the money for him

In your case, however, it was probably wiser to sell Baines if it frees up some cash to upgrade elsewhere etc

      2. NABIL - FPL otai
        • 11 Years

Yeah by the looks of it I really have to stay patient but the fingers are itchy to pull the trigger. I really hope a good, clear option will unearth after this GW, and I don;t mind taking ahit later to get an ARS defender.

        Thanks all for the replies.

Considering Lukaku (c) over Sanchez. He will be on penalties given Baines is out and plays a defensively brittle Crystal Palace at home. I can see a brace. To stick with the herd or risk a shitty weekend if Lukaku blanks.

He's a great choice, Ibra just gets the nod for me but little in it!

Hi folks, a few days to getting married - so not much time on my hands. Thinking of banking the FT for the int'l break...safe to save?

    Foster
    Koscielny Williams ?
    Sanchez Mane Sterling Chadli
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

    Capoue, Francis/Cathcart, Amat

    A) 3-4-3: Play Francis or Cathcart?
    B) AOA for Capoue over either

Why not use the AOA (not much use anyway). Save FT for after the int break. Best of luck for the wedding! 🙂

I'd be tempted with AOA here. Otherwise I'd start Cathcart - home fixture against a low scoring BOU

      Congrats Shifty!
      Probably A with Cathcart

AOA is pretty useless but save until in trouble with non playing or really bad fixture defenders imo

Yea will probably try to save it if i can avoid it! WAT have a pretty good run so there might be a better time than defensively in-form BOU.

so you are doing the girlfriend ➡ wife transfer?

highly inadvisable around these parts, i hope she knows FPL comes first before anything else 😆

      in regards to your question

      save and just play Cathcart

      enjoy your weekend

Morning DZ - defence is in a bit of trouble this week - best move?

    A) Leave as is
    B) Baines -> 5.6 (-4)
    C) AOA (likely means Barry(CPL) instead of Amat(LIV)

    Cech
    Valencia, Kone, Collins
    Sanchez, Walcott, Antonio, Capoue
    Aguero, Ibra, Defoe

    Pickford, Barry, Amat, Baines
    Bank 0.1m, 0FT

Not worth using AOA I don't think. I'd be tempted to do Baines > Clyne, as Everton's fixtures aren't the best after this week anyway

Yeah this is true. Nobody really appeals defensively this week though that I'd want long term. Not sure LIV will get that many clean sheets. Baines -> Lovren does enable Barry & Ibra -> Son & Lukaku over the next couple of weeks though

I think Liverpool will do alright for clean sheets given the fixtures. That said, I think I'd either go for Clyne or stick with Baines, especially if you're not convinced on Liverpool's CS potential. I know the extra money would be handy, but I can't see Lovren being worth taking the hit long-term even with the future transfers it would enable

I think A. Don't think Swansea will be smashed.

    Hi,
    My Current Team:

    Foster (Jakupovic)
    Evans/Valencia/Koscielny (Stones, Amat)
    (C)Walcott/Antonio/Sterling/Firmino (Capoue)
    Benteke/Lukaku/Agüero

Evens > Stones is gooder ?

Wanted to bring lallana in early in the week while he was still at 7.1 but opted to halt given the international break and preference for 2FT.

Now here i am sat here watching as he's primed for a second price rise, meanwhile Lamela is now down to 6.9.

    Patience really being tested here

1 FT and 10.1 ITB, was hoping to save but my defense is dire, Friend been threatening to drop all week and hard to say if Shaw will be right or not.....any thoughts good people?

    Foster
    Shaw Stones Friend
    Ozil Antonio Townsend Capoue
    Aguero Ibra Lukaku

    (Jaku Snoddy Amat Pieters)

Gonna save my FT. Lineup, Captain ok?

    Foster
    PVA, Coleman, Holebas
    Capoue?, Firmino (vc), Antonio, Sterling
    Ibrahimovic (c), Aguero, Lukaku

    Subs: Pickford, Snoddy, Stones, Amat

Thinking of Antonio + Zlatan to Sanchez + Benteke after the break, Sterling out in the future for another Liverpool mid.

Sanchez vs Ibra for the armband is tough. Ibra on everything with a plum home fixture, but Sanchez and Arsenal are on fire. Form over fixture, right?

Think you might have to stick with Ibra

Burnley is much more compact and solid at the back than Stoke, they won't let in more than 2 in my estimation

Stoke, on other hand, could easily give up 3-4 goals

Ibra for me and although I don't have Sanchez I like to think it would still be Ibra if I did have, its not like he's in poor form

      Zlatan by a distance.

I would captain him if I had him. I do have Sanchez but still have at least 3 players in my team I'd prefer this week.

for sure Ibra if i had him. You know he's going to be in the thick of the action regardless.

Have Rashford but not confident enough on his involvement to captain.

Which of these two should I keep as first sub? (all the more important for me because Baines is not likely to play)

    A) Vertonghen- solid defence, home fixture but up against Man City
    B) Fletcher- can get max 3 points.

    1FT; 2.2 itb
    A) Ozil -> Sanchez
    B) Redmond -> Coutinho (Lallana & Antonio other options)
    C) Save
