The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

A Belgian duo light up Sunday’s pair of fixtures as Romelu Lukaku grabs his customary goal against West Ham, before Eden Hazard nets for the third successive Gameweek as Chelsea see off Southampton at St Mary’s.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
There is no doubt that Chelsea’s move to 3-4-3 has handed Hazard the freedom to flourish.

Afforded licence to drift centrally when the Blues are in possession, the revived Belgian scored for the third consecutive league outing, bagging a goal and an assist in the 2-0 triumph.

After peaking at 10.3 in Gameweek 5, he has dropped to 9.8 in recent weeks, yet an explosive return to form – having notched against Leicester City and Manchester United – could now trigger a transfer scramble.

Sunday’s 14-point haul was Hazard’s highest of the season and takes him to just seven points off the top of the FPL midfield standings.

Romelu Lukaku
Second only to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for acquisitions ahead of Gameweek 10, Lukaku was also the most-captained player by the top 100 FPL managers.

The Everton striker justified that show of faith with a goal and assist against West Ham and is now the top scoring FPL forward.

His run of consistent displays under Ronald Koeman shows no sign of abating – Lukaku has served up points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Diego Costa
A superb second-half strike at St Mary’s maintained a remarkable run that has harvested FPL points in eight of Costa’s first 10 Gameweeks.

Yet again he kept out of trouble and remains on four yellows – impressively, Costa has been booked in just one of the last six league matches.

Although there’s been a recent clamour for 3-5-2 due to the number of high-scoring midfielders, the Costa, Lukaku and Sergio Aguero front line is becoming increasingly appealing for those prepared to invest big funds up top.

In saying that, Hazard is now only one point behind Costa and 0.5 cheaper.

Yannick Bolasie
After finding the net against Burnley in Gameweek 10, Bolasie is another player to shed his erratic form under Koeman.

An assist for Lukaku’s opener means he has now produced points in five of the previous seven Gameweeks.

Arguably the only guaranteed starter in the Everton attacking midfield three, his assist was the fourth of the season – already bettering last term’s tally of three while at Palace.

For those already holding Lukaku, though, Everton’s upcoming schedule – which hands them encounters with Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United in the next four – may well deter a double-up.

Victor Moses
Handed a fourth straight start as a right wing-back by Antonio Conte, the Chelsea midfielder provided the assist for Hazard’s opener.

Moses was also amongst the goals in the Gameweek 8 win over Leicester City and seems to have cemented a regular role in the Blues’ 3-4-3 formation.

Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, the Nigerian international offered a decent goal threat throughout Sunday’s clash and, having convinced Conte of his worth, may yet emerge as a viable budget midfield option.

Cesar Azpilicueta & Marcos Alonso
It’s four clean sheets in as many matches for the Blues since the change of tactics.

Again, the Spanish defender’s suitability to the bonus points system prevailed and helped him to a pair of additional points at St Mary’s.

Impressively, Azpilicueta has been awarded bonus points in six of the first 10 Gameweeks and has collected at least one extra point on the five occasions that his side has registered a shut-out.

Sitting in 11% of FPL sides, he’s now climbed to joint-fourth in the defender rankings, level with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on 45 points.

Even so, with John Terry looming as a factor on the bench and Kurt Zouma soon to return from injury, it’s not yet clear if Conte will keep faith with his current back-three in the mid-term. Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, therefore appears to offer a more secure option.

Ross Barkley
Barkley nudged back onto the radar with a finely taken volley for the Toffees’ second.

Unlike his fellow midfielder Bolasie, this was Barkley’s first attacking returns since Gameweek 2, when he earned an assist away to West Brom.

Having dropped to the bench as recently as Gameweek 8, Barkley is unlikely to clamber ahead of Bolasie for those eyeing up the Everton midfield. A price tag of 7.2 to the former Eagles winger’s 6.0 means that Barkley remains peripheral in our thoughts for now.

In Decline

Phil Jagielka
The Everton skipper went into Sunday’s match as their top scoring defender, having started all nine of the opening fixtures.

Dropped to the bench as Ramiro Funes Mori came in alongside Ashley Williams, Jagielka’s absence coincided with the Toffees’ first clean sheet in six Gameweeks.

Funes Mori earned a single bonus point to return seven points and stake a claim for regular inclusion, though the upcoming schedule hardly appears conducive to clean sheets.

Winston Reid
The West Ham skipper toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth yellow card of the season.

Reid had racked up 29 points in the previous three Gameweeks but now sits out the Gameweek 11 home clash with Stoke.

With Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent four, clean sheets may well be in short supply for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Seriously, we have no idea if Bellerin>Morgan is > or < Hazard>Lallana

How happy will it make you to have Hazard? It's a game and you should like your team.

Can make a case for it because Arsenal has a couple tough fixtures, but ….

As if with Austin two weeks ago, once again people are diving into the Chelsea assets at the wrong time. Yes they're bang in form, but they have a very solid Everton and Spurs at home and City away in the next four? Even their easiest looking game is away to Boro, who are also very good at the back. After that their fixtures turn absurdly good for December. People taking out Liverpool players for them is insanity.

Unless it's defenders. But then if you own any Liverpool defenders, you're already insane.

Chelsea have the second hardest fixtures of anyone next four. Calm down people.

And Lukaku will 100 percent score at Stamford Bridge. Fact. Xx

It's also who you're taking out obviously. Sanchez and Firmino being suggested on here? That's just madness!??

Leaning towards aguero, Costa and lukaku being the perfect front 3. But with Sanchez as well that doesn't allow much else. I'm on 80 points with my captain to play and own no Chelsea players.

I've gone from 350 to 150k in last four weeks. With no Chelsea players. You can't take out inform players for inform players with worse fixtures!

Neither tottenham, man city or everton have had good form recently.
Transferring out Sanchez is too far, but I understand the urge to do Firmino > Hazard for instance, if you own Coutinho.
I also had no chelsea players this current gw (transferred in Hazard earlier however), and I have also had a successful gw (85 with allen to play). No player is essential to achieve a good score. Its just that chelsea assets are the most desirable at the moment.

I just don't think they are. The defence maybe. But Hazard isn't doing that much more than Firmino or Coutinho and has a much worse fixture up next.

Costa is on fire. But you can't have lukaku, Aguero and Costa without serious, in my opinion, not worth it sacrifices in other areas.

FPL is all about calculated risks. Potentially you can gain more ground on those ahead of you by getting in players such as Hazard and Azpi.

At a risk of blowing my own trumpet, I played my WC in GW7 and have gone from 400k to 18k since then.

My personal goal is to make the top 1k so I sold Sanchez and Snodgrass for Hazard and Firmino last night as part of a 4 point hit.

It might not work out, especially getting rid of Alexis. But no guts no glory.

I agree in part, but City is a decent fixture for an attacking player, and you'd expect Chelsea to beat Boro by 2 or 3.

But it's an in form Hazard/Costa for an in form Chelsea side, that's a big difference from Austin IMO. Madness selling in form midfielders for Hazard, but I think it's not crazy to sell Sterling for him. Was looking to shift Sterling anyway as both stats and points income have dropped. Definitely agree with your judgements.
Was looking at destroying this 7
      Sanchez Firmino Walcott Allen
      Aguero Costa Lukaku

      To fit in Hazard.
Costa Allen >>> Hazard Austin the best I came up with.

Conclusion >>> Will hold Costa till his 5th Yellow after which it will be Austin and Hazard in.

      Arenal put 3 past Chelsea.

      Chelsea smashed 4 past United.

United were lucky to get 1 past Hull.

Liverpool and United couldn't score against Burnley.

........ and so on and so forth.

If there's one pattern emerging this season so far, it's that no pattern is emerging at all.

I think the old days of trying to guess players points according to fixtures is long gone.

If you think a player is good enough to get points against anyone then just get them.

Chances are they'll score when you least expect it and won't when you do. 😉

    a) Sterling -> Gundogan (free funds for squeezing Haz into the midf probably in one of the next GWs . Also Gundogan looked a greater threat inside the opposition's penalty box than Sterling)

    or

    b) Shaw -> Alonso/Fuchs?

SO who are the big hitters to own at the minute, essentially you can't fit them all in. I'm sat with

    Sanchez
    Firm
    Lukaku
    Kun

Unless I butcher my defence I can't bring in Haz/Costa etc....

Anyone need adding to that list to be in the same side?

You can't have everyone. It's why this season has been so good so far.

I got 22 points from 3 players yesterday and only moved up like 10k!? It's very tight but with so many different players getting the points. You can't have those four plus hazard and Costa. Or even one of them really unless you have a defence of 4.5 max.

I currently have Kun, Ibra, Coutinho, Firmino and Sanchez.

I would like Hazard if he continues in this vain, but I'm in no rush really. I think I'm more focused on getting the supporting mid pricers right at the moment because I've made some shocking decisions in that regard.

Plus, and I'm expecting hate mail for this from the Chelsea faithful, but just saw Hazard's goal against SOU, and I have to say it was poor goalkeeping at the near post. 🙂

Costa's goal on the other hand was pure class.

Should I sell Snoddy for a hit? I don't mind the price down but I'm having to field a Wat player making the team weak.

    Foster
    Koscielny, Stones, PVA, Holebas
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Firmino
    Aguero (c), Lukaku, Austin

Subs: Pickford, Capoue, Snoddy, Amat. No FT, 0.4 itb

      I did this already!

My reasoning is my combo is Pickford and Jaku which is already a bit dicey. I want a goalkeeper who can score double digits any given gameweek rather than the 1 or 2 point machine that is Pickford. Heaton will easily make back the points after a couple of weeks and will rise in price (he will be teh top scoring keeper in the game easily imo).

      Do it!
