The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

A Belgian duo light up Sunday’s pair of fixtures as Romelu Lukaku grabs his customary goal against West Ham, before Eden Hazard nets for the third successive Gameweek as Chelsea see off Southampton at St Mary’s.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
There is no doubt that Chelsea’s move to 3-4-3 has handed Hazard the freedom to flourish.

Afforded licence to drift centrally when the Blues are in possession, the revived Belgian scored for the third consecutive league outing, bagging a goal and an assist in the 2-0 triumph.

After peaking at 10.3 in Gameweek 5, he has dropped to 9.8 in recent weeks, yet an explosive return to form – having notched against Leicester City and Manchester United – could now trigger a transfer scramble.

Sunday’s 14-point haul was Hazard’s highest of the season and takes him to just seven points off the top of the FPL midfield standings.

Romelu Lukaku
Second only to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for acquisitions ahead of Gameweek 10, Lukaku was also the most-captained player by the top 100 FPL managers.

The Everton striker justified that show of faith with a goal and assist against West Ham and is now the top scoring FPL forward.

His run of consistent displays under Ronald Koeman shows no sign of abating – Lukaku has served up points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Diego Costa
A superb second-half strike at St Mary’s maintained a remarkable run that has harvested FPL points in eight of Costa’s first 10 Gameweeks.

Yet again he kept out of trouble and remains on four yellows – impressively, Costa has been booked in just one of the last six league matches.

Although there’s been a recent clamour for 3-5-2 due to the number of high-scoring midfielders, the Costa, Lukaku and Sergio Aguero front line is becoming increasingly appealing for those prepared to invest big funds up top.

In saying that, Hazard is now only one point behind Costa and 0.5 cheaper.

Yannick Bolasie
After finding the net against Burnley in Gameweek 10, Bolasie is another player to shed his erratic form under Koeman.

An assist for Lukaku’s opener means he has now produced points in five of the previous seven Gameweeks.

Arguably the only guaranteed starter in the Everton attacking midfield three, his assist was the fourth of the season – already bettering last term’s tally of three while at Palace.

For those already holding Lukaku, though, Everton’s upcoming schedule – which hands them encounters with Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United in the next four – may well deter a double-up.

Victor Moses
Handed a fourth straight start as a right wing-back by Antonio Conte, the Chelsea midfielder provided the assist for Hazard’s opener.

Moses was also amongst the goals in the Gameweek 8 win over Leicester City and seems to have cemented a regular role in the Blues’ 3-4-3 formation.

Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, the Nigerian international offered a decent goal threat throughout Sunday’s clash and, having convinced Conte of his worth, may yet emerge as a viable budget midfield option.

Cesar Azpilicueta & Marcos Alonso
It’s four clean sheets in as many matches for the Blues since the change of tactics.

Again, the Spanish defender’s suitability to the bonus points system prevailed and helped him to a pair of additional points at St Mary’s.

Impressively, Azpilicueta has been awarded bonus points in six of the first 10 Gameweeks and has collected at least one extra point on the five occasions that his side has registered a shut-out.

Sitting in 11% of FPL sides, he’s now climbed to joint-fourth in the defender rankings, level with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on 45 points.

Even so, with John Terry looming as a factor on the bench and Kurt Zouma soon to return from injury, it’s not yet clear if Conte will keep faith with his current back-three in the mid-term. Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, therefore appears to offer a more secure option.

Ross Barkley
Barkley nudged back onto the radar with a finely taken volley for the Toffees’ second.

Unlike his fellow midfielder Bolasie, this was Barkley’s first attacking returns since Gameweek 2, when he earned an assist away to West Brom.

Having dropped to the bench as recently as Gameweek 8, Barkley is unlikely to clamber ahead of Bolasie for those eyeing up the Everton midfield. A price tag of 7.2 to the former Eagles winger’s 6.0 means that Barkley remains peripheral in our thoughts for now.

In Decline

Phil Jagielka
The Everton skipper went into Sunday’s match as their top scoring defender, having started all nine of the opening fixtures.

Dropped to the bench as Ramiro Funes Mori came in alongside Ashley Williams, Jagielka’s absence coincided with the Toffees’ first clean sheet in six Gameweeks.

Funes Mori earned a single bonus point to return seven points and stake a claim for regular inclusion, though the upcoming schedule hardly appears conducive to clean sheets.

Winston Reid
The West Ham skipper toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth yellow card of the season.

Reid had racked up 29 points in the previous three Gameweeks but now sits out the Gameweek 11 home clash with Stoke.

With Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent four, clean sheets may well be in short supply for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Both and if you have Aguero get rid. I can see Lukaku and Costa both having a very similar points total to Aguero this season, but both are over £3m cheaper. Wait until after the international break though as Middlesbrough next week for Aguero looks good.

      Keeping for now.

It's been very frustrating owning him, but despite the lack of returns I'd be more concerned if he wasn't getting the chances.

I have a feeling he just needs that 1 goal to start a landslide so to speak, but if it doesn't come very soon I'll have to bite the bullet and make the easy transfer to Lukaku/Costa or Giroud depending on the standout at that time.

Is there a wealth of choice in midefield anymore? Many of the 7-9m options have tailed off. Walcott (injury), Alli, Eriksen, Son, Sterling, Antonio.

It's all about Sanchez, Liverpool and maybe Hazard. Bring on the template.

yes but you cant afford all of them so choices have to be made and the options are more plentiful than ever

That's my point though. Seems the choices are dwindling. There'll always be a choice between genuine big hitters (Sanchez/KDB/Hazard). We have to chase form for those slightly cheaper to a certain degree and all those I mentioned who used to be on fire have cooled off now. They were what was making the midefield lineup even harder

If you want him, get him now. His price will be 10m by Friday, then there is Int Break, where he usually scores and this will boost the price to 10.2m. Besides, you don't have Costa, so not owning an attacking asset in a team that won last 4 with 11 scored is reckless 🙂

By playing Azpi in the back three rather than at RWB, Conte is not only clearly indicating that he believes Azpi is a better CB than Terry in a back three, but that he'd rather rely on Moses' defensive capabilities than JT's.

I know he is getting on, but that's quite the downfall.

not a chelsea or Terry fan but think you are forgetting JT has been on the slide for over a year now. a slight renaissance towards the end of last season and signed a contract extension but it's clear given his age that he's not going to be an ever-present and he'll have accepted that. he could have gone elsewhere but he's clearly a one club man so opted to stay on those terms. not worth getting excited about imo.

    Gündogan & Redmond (In)
    Walcott & De Roon (Out)

    Have now 1.0itb!

    "Hate" my Defense:
    Pickford, Jaku
    Mustafi, Williams, Smith, Amat, Lenihan

    Like my Offense:
    Sanchez, Firmino, Gündogan, Redmond, Allen
    Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

Should i take a hit and upgrade Lenihan (max. 4.9 Defender) or Amat (5.0 Defender) or wait until next week?
Smith against SUN is okay but Williams at CHE and Mustafi against TOT are risky...

as a 4th mid he would prob allow you to have strong front 3 or as a 5th mid play 3-5-2. good pick and probably 2nd in line for pens but rotation would still worry me, he's got a bad record with injuries.

So hard to find the right transfer this GW. Firmino and Hazard rising fast. At the same time issues in defense, so may need to take a hit this GW. Current team is.
    Foster - Pickford
    Koscielny - Coleman - Holebas - Amat - Kone
Sanchez - Walcott - Couthino - Shaqiri - de Roon
    Aguero - Lukaku – Austin
    1 FT, 1.3 itb

Not sure if it is smart to loose Walcott, but otoh don’t know if it is necessary with Arsenal double-up for the next few GW’s. Liverpol double up could reap better returns, but then it might be a problem having both Brazilians coming back from internationals.Current transfer ideas are either of

    A) Walcott –> Firmino
    B) Shaqiri + Coleman –> Firmino + Nyom/Cameron –4 pts
    C) Walcott + Coleman to
    D) Coleman –> Fuchs
    E) Foster –> Heaton

    Would love som inpuits/ideas!

Ok I need to ditch Son this week in my draft league. Problem is the lack of options... What are people's opinions on a punt on Mahrez with those lovely fixtures?

Mahrez still needs to show that he's worth getting.
Get Fuchs/Morgan instead and swap Son for Liv mid

Yeh, problem is the only Pool mids left are.

        A) Wij
        B) Milner
        C) Hendo

You'd still rather a punt on one of those?

      Tadic for Hull?

Could be another 8 goal smashing like they did to SUN a few seasons back, and if I'm not mistaken Tadic got a monster haul that day.

Even for a one gw punt it could be worth it.

Again. Love the idea, but Tadic isn't available

    I think I was a bit rash with my defender transfer;
    Went with Alonso over Fuchs

Are the majority who goes with Fuchs over Alonso doing so for price or fixtures?

      After ten games at #mufc

      Van Gaal - 20 points

      Moyes - 17 points

      Mourinho - 15 points

      😀

Dawning realization that I could have had Fuchs instead of Morgan if I'd done transfers last night. Then saw Cresswell at 5.3 (some player he can be) checked Ham fixtures and it looks like I've all week to wait for Morgan.

    ------------------Heaton-----------------
    -----Clyne Vertonghen Pieters----
    Antonio Firmino Coutinho Snoddy
    --------Aguero Lukaku Ibra-------
    --------------------------------------------------
Pickford Capoue Evans Amat. 1ft, 0 itb

    Which option is better?

A Snoddy > Gundogan for free
    Or
    B Snoddy + Ibra > Hazard + Austin for a -4 point hit?

Really need to do this tonight before prices change and all advice is greatly appreciated 😉

How's the team looking for this week? Not sure on bench?

    Pickford
    Stones Bellerin Kelly
    Haz Sanchez Firmino Coutinho
    Aguero Austin rashford
    Jaku Allen Holebas Amat

95 points (no chips played) with Allen to play and a big fat green arrow (after 3 small red ones). Moving up to an OR of 58k (GR 9k). Really hoping for an Allen assist or goal for my first ever 100 points 'normal' gameweek.

Ticking along nicely with this team (0.8 ITB and 1 FT):

    Heaton - Pickford
    Koscielny - Lovren - McAuley - Holebas - Amat
    Sanchez - Firmino - Coutinho - Allen - Snodgrass
    Aguero - Lukaku - Wilson

    Couple of different moves on:
    A. Snodgrass out for Redmond
    B. Amat out for Pieters
    D. Save FT until after international break

Hard to think of the Suarez weeks as "normal gameweeks"
      Suarez 50pts
      The Rest 50pts

Very nice team, when did you WC?

Maybe A just to take a punt on Southampton's kind fixture?

Played my wildcard GW6 (I think it was on an international break).

Redmond in is the move I have in mind but I'm hesitant because he might become a rotation risk when Boufal steps up.

Just got back from France to see a nice 87 points so far this week. Need to go away more often it seems! Double Stoke cleanie tonight would put the icing on the cake 🙂

Looks like I picked the very worst option in Valencia as my Alderweireld replacement! Other options were Alonso, Lovren & Blind! Oh well.

How did Alonso look at the weekend? Still a decent option? May well get him as well as Lovren in this gw. Either him or Luiz anyway.

Hey pf, Chelsea defence has been solid but fixtures get tougher short term. I'll throw Fuchs and VVD in the mix for you to consider as well!

cheers Kuqi. VVD is definitely a decent option. Not entirely sold on Leicester defence, although perhaps I should reassess, since they are delivering!

On Chelsea, I just want to ignore the fixtures just this once and go for it, just need the of their defensive options!
