The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 26

This is getting to be a habit for Romelu Lukaku.

With a legion of more than 627,000 FPL managers tentatively trusting him with the Gameweek 26 captaincy, he muscled his way to Everton’s second goal to repay the faith and bolster his heavy-hitter CV once again.

While we perhaps had visions of another Bournemouth-style bumper return against a hapless Sunderland defence, Lukaku’s backers will gladly accept a seventh strike from his last four Goodison Park encounters, providing further evidence that this may just be an asset we can trust with the armband.

He was almost handed it by default on this occasion. With both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez closed off as options, the support for Lukaku was somewhat forced.

Diego Costa provided the main alternative and, while he proved his reliability with yet another goal, he remains a slow drip to Lukaku’s gushing tap – a player that will feed us regular points without promising to excite.

Having blanked in four of his last nine Gameweek starts, it offered reassurance that the Costa consistency was still there. However, he missed out on bonus points once again and has yet to score more than 9 points at Stamford Bridge all season; explosivity is just not on the menu with Costa – in more ways than one.

Ironically, he could now give way to Sergio Aguero in many squads – a player renowned for one-off hauls that can better even Lukaku’s Bournemouth effort – should Manchester City’s double Gameweek 27 be confirmed.

Elsewhere today, West Brom’s Chris Brunt again missed out on a potential assist. Denied in Gameweek 25 by the top of Gareth McAuley’s head that deflected Jonny Evan’s initial effort, today Brunt’s corner led to the scrappiest of goals – with McAuley again the benefactor.

Two weeks to the day, the Knee Jerk remarked on how McAuley was a charmed asset, a player who almost bought about his own luck by being an alert and significant physical presence in the box.

And so it came to fruition again today.

Brunt’s delivery was met with a feeble punch by Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc, span off what appeared to be Steve Cook’s back, before arriving for the gleeful McAuley to convert. The two touches from two Cherries players, cancelling out Brunt’s contribution.

Fortune again the provider for McAuley, while denying another delivery from Brunt it’s reward.

Brunt appears to have developed his own unwanted habit, and it’s a far nastier one than Lukaku’s.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    1) Would you do Baines ➡ Coleman for a FT ?
    2) Is Deeney a Good pick from GW29 ?

Both very knee jerky... Don't do anything until after the FA Cup replay, leaves some time for GW27 to shape up + any new injuries etc

I wouldny say no Coleman is getting close to a must and Deeney has decent fixtures and seems to have found his scoring boots.

Thought it was a GW with maybe 4 fixtures not a colourful fish ?

I wouldn't plan everything around it, but certainly wouldn't be reducing the number of available players, or drafting in blanking players like Deeney when other options are available - or just keep some FT for GW29

We've been planning our moves round it for weeks now ignoring other teams with good fixtures, sticking with players like Phillips, even though he has no form or Stanislas even though he doesnt start just because they have a fixture gw28,when a lot of these players are only going to get us 2 points anyway then we have to work on removing them from gw 29 onwards. The only other gw28 player im going to bring in is Coleman who i want long term.

Planning yes but not everyone has been holding those two ... I have never even owned them.

T Carroll 5th mid off the benich, Lanzini/Antonio, Barkley 3rd or 4th mids, cheap Hull assets for their fixtures, Liverpool ... etc - all likely to figure as nailed players (maybe good bench fodder) to be kept in teams going forward.

Good planning could have provided 11 players and a couple of FT for GW29 to get Sanchez etc

You've been lucky then ! I have Phillips,Carrol and Brunt who i quite honestly cant wait to get rid of ! Good planning could have provided 11 players but how many of those players will actually get you decent points when they are all playing each other. The plan for me was originally 10 but think i will run with 8,get 2 city players if they have a dgw and leave a plan to get Sanchez back for gw30/31 in 2 moves.

A very good basis of a team if you ignore GW28 - Spurs & Chelsea attacking defence, Mane, Alli and Gylfi etc (bet you are kicking yourself with Baines/Brunt rather than Coleman/McAuley ?)

Good fixtures soon with Everton and Spurs ...

I would be looking at Fernandez & T Carroll as cheap nailed bench fodder to help work Sanchez in for future DGWs, someone like Gabbiadini as an alternative to the injury prone A Carroll?

GW27 Kane to Aguero if DGW?

After that it is a very good team, just needs fine tuning.

Cheers.Yes going Baines over Coleman especially has hurt.
Plan is Kane to Aguero,Alli to Sterling gw27 if a dgw.
                        Gw 28 Amat to Coleman.
Gw 29 save transfer or Possibly Carrol to Deeney
Gw 30 Aguero to Gabbiadini and Phillips to Sanchez.
Will play 4-3-3 gw 29 with Phillips on bench. All pending injuries though etc and will probably change.

    Heaton (Jaku)
    Alonso Brunt Coleman Pieters Love
    Mane Alli Siggy Zaha Carroll

A, but with Siggy or Liverpool mid.

Your creating a Kun sized hole in tour team, but i'd go with your gut but spread the risk by not getting the second City player. Siggy or a Liverpool mid are a much better option for GW27 to GW30 IMO, they play the same number of games as City over that four week period.

Saving Ft this week to do Sanchez and Haz to Mane and Sterling next week.

Sounds like a plan or is there better?

You need Sterling this week not next week.

Presuming City beat Huddersfield am I better off bringing Kun in for

    (A) Zlatan
    (B) Lukaku

Zlatan has the better fixture but Lukaku doesn't blank GW 28 and would save me a transfer. Is it really worth doing the hassle of Lukaku > Aguero > Lukaku?

Go for it - 3 games in 2 game weeks and great Captain options

How many hits will it be worth to get Aguero in for GW27?

    A. No way, not interested
    B. -4
    C. -8
    D. -12

If you are getting him in are you going all in with triple captain chip?
    1. Yes
    2. No

Risky not to, but Sterling be transferred in at approaching twice the rate of Kun suggests the risk may not be as great as I feared.

If DGW going ahead its probably as good a TC opportunity as any given the fixtures Kun will have (nice home game + away to relegataion fodder) plus Jesus out injured. Pep's rotation will make it nerve wracking though.

You can still use bench boost & WC if a mass DGW happens later in GW34 onwards.

GW37 the big one, but same idea.

Arsenal may even have a DGW on the week of CL quarter finals ?

Assuming DGW goes ahead, which is best route to Kun? Could Ibra be tired after all the cup games & utd potentially suffer a League Cup hangover vs. bournmouth in the early kickoff on saturday? Or will Ibra hattrick?

    A. Ibra & Haz > Lpool Mid & Kun
    B. Costa & Haz > Lpool Mid & Kun

Not getting rid of Lukaku for Kun as have too much TV built up in him + would want straight back in again anyway... Can't afford Mane, but are Coutinho or Lallana better picks than Firmino for LPool coverage??

Yeah... Reluctant to just ditch all chelsea attacking coverage though, but it might have to be done.
