The Stock Check – Gameweek 26 – Sunday

Harry Kane runs riot as Spurs put four past Stoke without reply at White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to roll out a 3-4-2-1 also reignites the Fantasy potential of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli after both were subject to sales aplenty prior to Gameweek 26. Meanwhile, at Wembley it’s a tale of two strikers in the EFL Cup Final as, almost inevitably, Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims a leading role.

On the Rise

Harry Kane
The frontman turned in his most emphatic Fantasy display of the season by playing a part in all four of Spurs’ goals in a home demolition of Stoke.

With Mauricio Pochettino choosing to retain the 3-4-2-1 formation utilised against Gent in midweek, Kane banished a run of one strike in the previous four Gameweeks in style, racking up three goals and an assist.

Kane has now notched seven times in his last three home appearances ahead of next week’s visit from Everton and those who were eyeing up a swap to Sergio Aguero – should City clinch a double Gameweek 27 – may now think twice.

In saying that, Aguero would also face Stoke as well as Sunderland if City defeat Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Wednesday and the Potters’ abject defensive display looks potentially very promising for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli
The Dane banished a run of four straight league blanks by providing two assists for the third time in his last four home outings.

Shipped by more than 45,000 FPL managers last week, Eriksen had hinted at a return to form in midweek by grabbing a goal and assist in the stalemate with Gent and he maintained that momentum with an 11-point return against Mark Hughes’ men – impressively, that’s a fifth double-figure haul in his last seven at the Lane.

Sold by more FPL managers (66,000+) than any other player boasting a fixture in Gameweek 26, Alli was back in the goals, with Pochettino choosing to retain him in the first XI after his midweek moment of madness.

Alli’s strike – only a second in the last six Gameweeks – ensures that his battle with Eriksen for our midfield attentions continues to rage on, with the pair ranked third and fourth respectively in the FPL midfield standings.

With home encounters against Everton, Southampton, Watford and Bournemouth allied with trips to Burnley and Swansea City in the next seven rounds of fixtures, those who had considered parting company to cope with Spurs’ blank Gameweek 28 may now be reconsidering.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The talismanic Swede just had to have the final say in what was a compelling EFL Cup final.

His late decisive header from point blank range capped another two-goal performance and continued a bout of relentless scoring form ahead of a Gameweek 27 meeting with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Earmarked as a likely captain for that clash, enthusiasm has since been tempered by the revelation that City and Aguero may now have two fixtures. However, Zlatan’s performance today issued another reminder that we overlook his claims at our peril.

Certainly, the 281,000 who sold the Swede ahead of Gameweek 26 will be pondering the possibility of a recall, if not for the Cherries visit, perhaps after United’s blank in Gameweek 28.

Manolo Gabbiadini
Another two predatory strikes, a third goal ruled out – it’s fair to say that any remaining doubts surrounding the Saints striker were extinguished by Sunday’s performance.

Having fired three goals in two Premier League starts, the Italian had already caught the eye of Fantasy managers.

The huge investment and transfer numbers ahead of a Gameweek 26 blank were somewhat mystifying but, following today’s Wembley showing, there will be many more managers taking the bait.

Like Ibrahimovic, Gabbiadini will suffer a blank in Gameweek 28 and will follow that with a testing trip to Spurs. However, two home fixtures with Bournemouth and Palace from Gameweek 30 provide an obvious window for investment.

We may need to pay quite a bit more for the striker by that point: Gabbiadini has already become the top transfer target ahead of Gameweek 27, collecting more than 31,000 new owners already.

In Decline

Peter Crouch
With a potential double Gameweek 27 just around the corner, Fantasy managers were hoping for signs of form from Stoke at the Lane.

Instead, we were left with little reason for optimism after the 4-0 capitulation, with Mark Hughes’ men failing to impress at either end of the pitch.

Furthermore, Crouch’s 6.1% of FPL owners were left worrying over his pitch time after he was withdrawn before the hour-mark for the second time in three Gameweeks.

Those currently retaining Crouch will surely retain his services in the likelihood of a double, but with Saido Berahino stepping up his sharpness with more minutes off the bench as the target man’s replacement, would-be suitors may be thinking twice.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld
Spurs will be hoping that their twelfth clean sheet of the campaign didn’t come at a cost after both defenders limped off during the second-half.

Whilst Vertonghen managed 65 minutes to claim a clean sheet, Alderweireld’s unfortunate Fantasy season continued as he limped off just three minutes after the break, earning his owners no more than a single-point return.

Optimistically, Pochettino revealed post-match that the pair were withdrawn as a precaution, boosting their chances of making next Sunday’s clash with Everton.

With Danny Rose still stuck on the sidelines, though, the defensive options are limited right now and should both Belgians fail to recover, there’s a chance that Spurs will need to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 formation, forcing us to reassess their main men once again.

Need help for GW27 and GW28

    Foster, Pickford
    Coleman, Alonso, McAuley, Pieters, Robertson
Mane, Alli, Phillips, de Roon, T. Carroll
    Ibra, Costa, Lukaku

    2FT, 2.4 ITB

Initial plan was to swap Costa to Aguero for free but I just checked that I short of 0.1. So I need additional transfer.

A Costa & Phillips to Aguero & King in GW27 and Aguero to Carroll in GW for free
B Costa & Alli to Aguero & Sterling then Aguero to Carroll and Sterling to Siggy/Antonio/Snod
    C Other option

    Thanks in advance

The way Spurs is looking, I feel the need to bench one of Coleman or Baines

So...Coleman attacking returns less likely against best defence in the league?

Spot kicks more likely (e.g. play Baines) ??

        Here's my new plan.

        Now: Kane + Alli > Aguero + Sterling -4
        Next week: Sterling > Siggy
Week after: Figure out how to get Sanchez and Kane in.

        Better?

He's just an easy (and safe) captain for me. Not as confident he'll start both/score 10+ as others around here but it just seems an easy move to make.

      Ibrahimovic, Costa, Defoe

RP. If Phillips is out for more than this GW:

      a) Holebas, Phillips, Kane > Fernandez, Sane, Kun for -8
      b) Phillips, Eriksen, Costa > King/Snoddy, Sterling, Kun for -8
      c) Phillips, Costa > King/Snoddy, Kun for -4

      Assuming City beat Huddersfield:
      A) Kane -> Aguero (would leave me with 0 in the bank)
      B) Dele Alli -> Sterling
      C) Dele Alli -> Sigurdsson
      D) Lukaku -> Ibra

      If it helps, current team:

      Jaku
      Coleman - McAuley - Alonso - Walker
King - Mane - Dele Alli
      Costa - Lukaku - Kane

Is it worth getting rid of Kane for Aguero, provided City beat Huddersfield? Could do it for free and may potentially triple captain him.

Lots of people saying a full GW28 11 will be rubbish, but what is likely to be the strongest starting 11 any one can put out for GW28, with a decent premium bench for GW29 onwards ?

Will it be a decent base going forward ?

      Say ... GW28
      Foster/Jaku
      Clyne, McAuley, Coleman, Smith, Robertson
      Gylfi, Barkley, Mane, Carroll
      Llorente

      DeGea, Ibra, Kane, Alli

      GW29 plus 1 FT
      DeGea
      Clyne, Coleman, Robertson
      Gylfi, Barkley, Mane, Ali
      Llorente Ibra, Kane

Yes, and he could be instead of Kane on the bench, and then subbed out for Kane depending on preference.

My point,?I suppose, is that a decent 11 was possible if planned from 4 or so games ago, especially as the last round of the FA cup gave a good chance of PL blanks

4 or so games ago, the Liverpool/Burnley looked unlikely to go ahead and the potential DGW hadn't been announced, so you would probably have needed luck on your side to get a decent squad in GW28 and GW29 onwards without hits.

Yes, I know Liverpool fixture certainly gave me 2 players that I didn't expect and access to two FTs going into GW29 (except the City DGW may suck up one of those transfers)

I think quite a few people will have a decent 11 players in GW28

I think Clyne, Barkley and Llorente to Mawson, Snoddy and Lukaku would be possible for those with higher team values. It's also questionable using the GW29 FT to get DeGea, a GW28 keeper and one with DGW potential in your first squad would be a better option in my option, you would then have the option to roll the GW29 FT.

Sure thing, quite a few options available for alternative and decent 11 players with some premium assets to come in for GW29.

At these prices even Sanchez can come back in GW29 or GW30.

My tale of woe this year has definitely been that my key picks have over-performed in every game outside of the league, and been sporadically exciting but mainly mediocre at best in FPL.

FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Europa League...you name it, my players have ripped it up with great form, but slacked off at the day job in the league. Sigh.

So, this week, got Aguero (2g 1a in the Champoins League!) and Ibra (2 goals in a cup final!) and will get hee haw in FPL this week.

just bad choices for me from GW1 - expected Bony to hit the ground running, Pogba to explode, ignored Sanchez early on in preference to Hazard, Ibra & Kun, stuck with Kane during his blanks and sold before he exploded - hey ho - but still targeting the Head to Head games as mini battles, chasing green flags and the best OR I can get.

I have Kane, Costa and Lukaku.

Do you really fancy Lukaku to score against us at WHL? We don't concede many.

I like the look of Costa away at West Ham more.

Well you have to look to GW28 as a priority.

        Players to keep GW27.
Jaku Pieters Baines Coleman Kaku Phillips 100%

Players to Keep for points GW27 probably:
Cahill Alli Hazard Costa (At least 2)

        Players to go for sure:
Jones De Roon Defoe and Maybe Foster

        Players to Get:
        Kun + Swansea/Hull/Pool defense + Siggy + pool mid 3 tfrs -8
End up with Kun DGW captain and 2 more GW players
In Gw 28 - 4 2ft and move out Kun Sterling for Mane and someone like Carroll.

      team atm is
      jaku pick
apzil walker brunt / holgate lescott
      sanchez alli stan mane philips*
      crouch ibra kaku

Still uncertain who to get along with Aguero for GW 27 (if DGW). All set on Costa to Aguero. Short of 0.2. Who to make way?

      (1) Alli to Sterling (No Spurs cover against Everton but I guess they will blank anyway)
      (2) PVA to Stones
      (3) Just have Kun for 27 and downgrade someone and get 28 non-blanker

      Thanks!

only Ligue 1 & La Liga are far from done imo.

Germany & Italy are absolutely done. Chelsea probably.

Agree with Ligue 1, Monaco are really pushing PSG!

Think Barca will take LL again, but definitely 3 horses in it right now
