The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 32

If only there was a different Fantasy Premier League chip – one that allows you to extend the allowed allocation for one particular team in our squads – then we’d be far more content tonight.

As it is, we can only choose three members of Mauricio Pochettino’s irrepressible Spurs side and, right now, that proves rather problematic.

I almost felt like curling up in a corner after deciding to sell Son Heung-min. But, having played the percentages with my late acquisition of Dele Alli, my ill-fated Gameweek 32 transfers were undoubtedly driven by this very issue.

With Harry Kane returning to the picture and both Alli and Eriksen maintaining relentless form, even the brilliant and combustible Son struggles to justify selection.

There’s no questioning his value to us at present – priced at 7.0, his goal threat and flair is a hugely tempting proposition. His devastating 19-point return is destined to see him earn a flood of new owners and yet, as mentioned, the likes of Kane, Alli and Eriksen surely have to remain Spurs’ top three assets.

Alli’s sublime strike for Spurs’ opener means he has now produced 13 goals from his last 15 Gameweek starts. He is by far the top scoring midfield asset over that spell and simply has to claim a berth for the run-in.

Meanwhile, Kane’s return shakes up the situation up front but, like Alli, his potential surely has to force our hand.

He scored 12 goals from 10 Gameweek starts before being derailed by injury and, in this efficient Spurs attacking unit, he promises to go on delivering at that kind of rate. With 6.7 points per match, he remains peerless among FPL forwards.

Then there’s Eriksen, perhaps the most disposable of the three, but still a prime Fantasy asset. His assist today took him to 14 for the season, with ten arriving in his last nine home matches. Only Alli and Bournemouth’s Josh King has scored more points than the Dane over the last 15 Gameweeks.

It’s so difficult to justify looking beyond this trio, then, even with Son’s obvious appeal on offer.

Significantly, we have to consider that, should Pochettino revert to a three-man defence with wing-backs, Son’s starting role will no longer be assured.

Eriksen and Alli will likely support Kane, with the wing-backs providing width and Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele sitting deep. Son would be reduced to rotation and cameo roles at that point – and that point could arrive very soon.

Spurs take on Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final following the Gameweek 33 home clash with Bournemouth. Pochettino seems set to go into that Wembley tie with a formation that mirrors Chelsea – reverting to 3-4-2-1, with Rose perhaps fit to return. Will he switch back following the semi-final? It’s certainly a consideration for those pondering a move for Son.

At least today’ teamsheet at White Hart Lane offered an obvious fall-guy to free-up a spare Spurs slot.

With the 36% owned Kyle Walker benched for a second Gameweek in three, he is already topping the sales charts as managers clear the decks for investment in midfield and attack.

It’s unfortunate that, with the Chelsea defence still unable to claim clean sheets, we can’t look to Spurs to help reinforce out backlines.

But with such attacking riches on offer, if we’re being forced to overlook Son’s form, then a rested Walker and even budget proposition Ben Davies, have little hope of claiming one of our now treasured Spurs allocations.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On DGW34 sold Hazard who's away to West Ham for Sterling who has two fixtures. Haz has an 11 pointer his first away goal for ages, Sterling benched for the second match of the double..

This week Sterling out for Alli. Alli scores but Sterling decides to have a 9 pointer. Thems the FPL breaks for me this season! 🙂

Valdes instead of Heaton, Vertonghen instead of Azpi,
Downgrade Sanchez to Wally and upgrade Tom Carroll? Rest looks fine. Also, wouldn't go Llorente, maybe downgrade him to Gestede as 3rd striker.

Sunderland vs Man Utd - Important game for DGW planning IMO. A poor result for Utd and expect rotation:

"I just want to think that against Everton we are going to do what we tried to do [against West Brom], to try to play with our best team and try to win the match,” Mourinho said. “And after Everton we go to Sunderland with the same perspective, and then after Sunderland the Europa League comes and I don’t know. Then, it’s possible that you see me play in the Premier League with a team where I’m going to protect the players that I consider fundamental for the Europa League. But only, only if the results in the next matches put us in a situation where mathematically, it becomes almost impossible to do it."

What to do with this team?
    Heaton - Pickford
    Yoshida - Walker - Alonso - Bailly - Holgate
    Alli - Hazard - Ward-Prowse - King - Walcott
    Ibrahimovic - Origi - Agüero

I want to get Kane in and Origi and Walker out. Got 0 itb and 2 FT.

Initial thoughts on a Kane return plan - A3 best bet? Don't think I can really dare to lose Erikalli! Any other thoughts appreciated. Would quite like to find a way to get Hazard in...he's costing me in my ML with his fettish for BPS...don't mind a (-8).

    Kun > Kane and :

Thanks but I am not convinced.

I don't want to lose Ibra with all of those doubles coming up. I don't think any of the 4 midfielders suggested will keep up with Eriksen. I am not sure Kane will outscore Ibra next week by 4 points (I understand captaincy makes a difference).

Im not sure Utd will win today and if they don't then Mourinho will prioritise EL big time and has already hinted at rotation in GW33, between the Anderlecht games. Not sure Ibra would be involved in that rotation but he could. And even if he plays, I don't think he will score vs Chelsea. Then DGW34 presents Utd with two difficult away games. Same thing - risk of rotation and even if Ibra plays both I see him blanking at least once.

Suppose it depends on how much faith you put in Utd and Ibra scoring much in the next three games. But Id much rather have Kane for the next two than Ibra for the next three

Very bad GW so far (Benched Heaton + Coutino 🙁 )... What to do with this team? Shall I bring Son in for Lanzini?

    Heaton
    Alonso - Mustafi - Valencia
    Walcott - Coutinho - Firmino - Zaha - Lanzini
    Aguero - Lukaku

    Foster - Negredo - Nyom - Jones*

Definitely lacking Spurs... I'd get rid of firminho for Ali/Erikson and lose Lanzini for Sterling. That gives you City cover for when you get rid of Aguero for Kane /Zlatan in a few weeks

      It isn't far off.

Coutinho to Hazard an option but Coutinho is in form.

Lukaku to Kun is another option.

Walker to Davies for more cash.

Valencia to Rojo for more cash.

Save and Eriksen and Lukaku to Ibra and Hazard next week.

Alonso and Valencia to Holgate and Rojo may well guve you the cash to upgrade King to Hazard.

I would need them to both be 4.0 to afford King to Hazard

After 34 I could do Ibra to Afobe/Carroll and Zaha/King to Hazard

Walker should play the next game, keep him for now. Just do a straight swap for Ibracadabra to Hurricane. Keep Kaku for that Burnley game at home.

Well, Burnley away and MCI away aren't the most tasty fixtures? Are they? United aren't exactly free scoring and they might not even prioritize EPL anymore.

We all know United have the amazing talent of churning out 0-0's in consecutive matches! I'm not saying Ibra won't score at all but ignoring better options until GW 34 to keep him isn't exactly a great idea. Plus, there are atleast 4-5 heavy hitters who will outscore him easily despite the United double.

Sigurdson was testing my patience all this while, not getting points against a shambolic West Ham defence was the final nail in the coffin for me. Sold him with a heavy heart. Who else shipped/shipping him out?

Your attack is pretty good and Allison give you ample Spurs coverage for now. Don't chip chop just to accommodate Hurricane, wait and watch how it rolls out and then kick out Kaku and one of Alli or Davies IMO. I would keep Eriksen, his output will increase from now till end of the season, now that Hurricane is back.
